What is Paycom?

For 25 years, Paycom Software, Inc. (NYSE:PAYC) has offered businesses and their employees HR and payroll technology that provides direct access to their data. Paycom's Beti® technology enables employees to do their own payroll, so they are guided to find and fix costly errors before payroll submission. From onboarding and benefits enrollment to talent management, Paycom’s software streamlines processes, and gives employees access to their own HR information. Paycom can now serve businesses of all sizes in the U.S. and internationally.

Paycom states they have approximately 36,820 clients across the United States (as of Dec. 31, 2023), up 1% from the prior year. On April 15, 2014, Paycom became a public company with its shares opening for trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PAYC. In early 2020, the company joined the S&P 500.

  • Advanced Report Writer is an amazing tool
  • The work flow process of using PAF's is a seamless process
  • Client service is exceptional
  • In displaying the effective dates for pay rates, it would seem more beneficial to display on form 1 rather than selecting another area to review the effective date.
My implementation process was definitely challenging as we had many modules to set up. However, my PAYCOM team was there every step of the way! Answered every question, provided training, and even came onsite to make some processes even easier.The system is user friendly and the work flow process was very well thought of in the creation of this platform.I'm excited to be a PAYCOM Client, and you will be as well!

We use Paycom for onboarding, Learning courses, Benefits, and Expenses. It streamlines our processes better, mitigates manual work, and houses action items all in one platform as opposed to numerous.

  • For address change notifications, it is unclear what action we do - it only gives me the option to delete the notification, not look over it for tax purposes, etc. Should be an option to 'ignore' or 'go to profile to changes taxes' if needed.
  • COBRA - Generating COBRA should come in as a notification if we forget to do it after we submit a PAF. Extra layer of protection that COBRA does get generated.
Paycom implementation was so helpful and seamless. Super organized. I like how everything was set up prior to launch, as opposed to us launching Paycom with our employees and still having to do numerous cleanups and setting up workflows. I cannot think of any areas that were less appropriate.

We use it for payroll and employee data management. As well as expense management. We are a small non-profit, so our resources are limited, especially personnel and HR expertise. Paycom provides us that extra employee and expertise that we need to get important HR items taken care of in a quick and efficient way. They also help ensure we are compliant in some important areas like COBRA and various HR laws as they pass. I love having all my HR files stored in one area and knowing they're secure. It's also nice given our Hybrid work environment now. I can work from anywhere and access all my employee data and info.

Great for onboarding new hires. Volunteers don’t work great in the system and we have had to figure out workarounds for that. We also have a big expat population. While Paycom is starting to catch up with our needs there, it has been challenging to make that population fit as they haven't (until recently) been globally friendly with international address and phone number fields. I'm so happy they are moving that direction now!

We use Paycom to help with payroll and human resources. We did everything manually and by switching to Paycom, it has saved us so much time and manpower. It also makes it much easier for us by not having to track down time cards from employees or have to make changes to employee files (addresses, phone numbers, tax info) as they have access to it in the app at all times!

  • There are A LOT of features. This isn't necessarily bad, but it a lot to learn at one time.

We serve individuals with developmental disabilities and have a small business. We have found this software to be extremely helpful in that it takes less time to do payroll and all the human resources and payroll are in one system which makes it easier so we don't have errors in using two systems.

We use Paycom for payroll, reimbursements, and clocking in and out for the day. Paycom makes it easy for people who are new to their admin role(s), the employees, and literally anyone else in a company to use. Employees set up their own account for their taxes, pay check method (physical check, direct deposit, etc.), clocking in and tracking their hours and income... and from an admin role makes it simple to manage without taking days to manage and run payroll.
We have absolutely loved using their services and their team! We have been using them only for a few months now, but already we won't ever look back. Not only are they professionally fun, thorough, and great in their training and teaching, but they have proven very helpful in some large company transitions and have helped us move forward correctly and efficiently. Their system is very easy and straight forward to use, and everyone in the company has enjoyed how smooth and simple it is! I highly recommend Paycom to any company - big or small! They really are amazing.

We use Paycom for our company and recently switched over from another payroll company. We had an excellent experience with the implementation team. They were very attentive and responsive. They were there whenever we had questions or concerns. Now we have a rep assigned who is not as responsive when it comes to clarification or issues we have within Paycom. This would be the only issue I would say we have had so far with Paycom. We wish our now assigned rep was more responsive.

Paycom is great when it comes with to allowing staff to have access to all of their personal information and documents all in one place. Paycom as a platform is very intuitive to use. This ease of use equates to a better learning curve for the product. The employees are digitally handheld through the process, allowing our management team more time to focus on operations, finances, and development. Our focus was on reporting, talent acquisition and management, and Staff engagement. Our staff needed to take more ownership in their own payroll process and responsibility for time management. Paycom offered a solution to all of this and more for an annual cost savings in excess of $25,000 vs. the past process. Excellent for training and value!

I have implemented Paycom twice! The platform is easy to use, is one database, and is flexible enough to meet our needs without "special programming" which can really alter the true functionality of the system. It has allowed us to better communicate with employees, streamlined our payroll and recruiting functions and let employees have more transparency into their pay each payroll week!
  • Implementation was awesome! They listened to our needs, talked about solutions, and then delivered!
  • REPORTING! It is soooooo easy in Paycom. You do not have to be a wizard or tech person to pull simple, or even complicated, reporting!
  • The applicant tracking system is robust and allows a lot of customization, specialization (for those "weird" times you need special messaging), text messaging, and the list goes on! Really cut down on our recruiting time!
  • In my eyes, Paycom has so much going really well, it is hard to pinpoint an area to improve on.
Paycom has a great benefits administration system and support along the way! The link between Paycom Talent Acquisition and job boards has drastically increased our candidate flow. I have used Paycom with 5,000 employees and only 120 - works very well for both! One system that really does it all, from recruiting/onboarding, ACA, reporting, off boarding, and everything in between, it truly is a one stop system with ONE data base!

Paycom is our system of record for employees. The tracking and automation of nearly all aspects of HR through Paycom are key to managing staff for my organization as a department of 1.

Their support is top notch in the industry, from helping you with setup and implementation to troubleshooting issues. Paycom has dedicated staff for you to reach out to at any time that are knowledgeable and work towards resolutions.

I am responsible for all of our onboarding with new hires. I utilize the applicant tracking system everyday. I like the system a lot I just wish we had a demo profile to test out certain things. Sometimes when I am looking for a specific person it pulls up other people with different last names first. Other than that, everything else is easy to use and easy to understand.

I was looking for a Payroll company that could handle very specific needs for our Compnay for payroll, clocking in and attendance.
When I came across Paycom I found that there was no scenario or task I put in front of them that they were not able to accommodate and was specific for our Compnay. I chose Paycom for the innovation of our employees being able to punch in and out on their mobile devices. This has also helped streamline the processing of payroll and has decreased the amount of payroll errors by 99%. It is also great that employees are able to request time off and it gets in front of scheduling for a quicker response and it helps scheduling jobs with the proper amount of employees on crew. We are going on just over a year and the Paycom systems are updated regularly with new features for both employees and employer. Along the way whenever an issue has come up, Paycom client services has gone above and beyond to help get the right answers and corrections to any issues. I look forward to a long relationship with Paycom and am excited to see the new innovations that come.

  • I would like to see a extra time given for training to employer and employees before going live for the first payroll process without the pressure of a definitive start date. I was told we would be charged additional fees if we could not start on the date we decided on and then was dropped in the middle of my first payroll run because the client service had a pre arranged appointment with another client. The first payroll run was very chaotic and stressful. Please be sure your client is comfortable and ready before processing. And perhaps plan to spend that first entire Payroll day with them.
  • Would like to see more long-term client service assigned to our account. We have had ours change several times within the year and it just feels good knowing your going to call and speak with someone that knows you and/or your business well and can give a better educated answer based on your specific business needs.
  • We are having an issue with our 2021 taxes and a discrepancy between what was reported to the IRS and the SS admin. I have supplied all the 941 information from our previous payroll provider that was sent to the IRS. I can not seem to get a real good answer about the discrepancy yet. Hoping this will be resolved soon though. I wish we had open access to speak directly to a tax team member. Everything gets communicated between a client service rep and it is difficult when they do not understand the tax situation.
Paycom is well suited for our company because we have employees who can not clock in until they arrive at the job site. Paycom makes this possible with the APP on their mobile devices. It also allows them to view their punch ins and make change request if there is a problem and forgot to punch in or out. Employees can also request time off through the app and it will notify them once approved. They can elect benefits. There are so many options for a company to really tailor Paycom to their specific needs and there are constant upgrades to Paycom regularly and a full library of training material and webinars for employees and employer .

Paycom is used at our company for timecard input, vacation/sick time requests/approvals/tracking, and payroll processing.
  • Paycom's user interface is extremely easy for me to navigate
  • Paycom's system does not require too many steps to perform an action
  • Paycom also allows for direct benefits enrollment vs. using a different system or a website
  • I think they could improve the format of the paychecks. They're pretty basic which usually is a good thing, but I personally don't prefer it and I don't like the check images being on a separate page. Being a mortgage underwriter, I think the plainness of the paystubs appears like someone could have just typed it up themselves.
I just really enjoy that it's such an all-in-one solution for timecards, time off requests and approvals, payroll processing, income document archives and benefits elections. It's by far my favorite payroll system that I've used both as an employee and a manager. Despite the fact I don't care much for the paycheck image format, it would not deter me from recommending the system highly to others.

Our Agency uses Paycom for both payroll and our HRIS. Paycom has a great mobile app that our employees love! Employees can easily allocate hours to different cost centers on a daily basis - no more manual allocations. Paycom holds employees more accountable for their clock in/clock out punches and initiating a correction. Paycom has a great onboarding module that takes work off of the HR department and provides the documentation needed for employment. The performance review module is very automated and easy for all levels of employees to use.

  • Paycom's automated I-9 process is an electronic verification - no more paper!
  • The background screening module provides all necessary paperwork and state required documents directly to the new hire
  • The ACA reports and how to correct them does not seem straight forward
1. Our hourly employees can allocate their hours worked to various cost center through their work day. Our previous payroll system could not do this type of daily allocation.
2. The Paycom HRIS is more automated which results in less paper documentation and more electronic documentation, and provides time back to the HR department on a daily basis.

We use Paycom for our HR platform. This includes payroll, training, document housing, I-9s, performance reviews, and benefits. All of our employees use Paycom report time. Our warehouse employees use a kiosk attached to Paycom for their punch clock. We also use Paycom to track our attendance points for our attendance policy. Our recruiting, from posting a job to applicant tracking, to job offers and onboarding processes runs through Paycom. Because this tool addresses all aspects of HR, it allows us to utilize one product and keep all of our information in one place.

  • benefit support - the EDI file team is not helpful.
  • Exception point tracking - if you change your employees schedule, it updates that schedule from their start date, not the date of the change causing point tracking issues
  • Performance Management - each year you have to create new reviews for each review group.
Paycom does payroll and onboarding very well. They have streamlined that process and it is their wheel house. Some of the other advanced HR functions don't flow or match to the needs of different industries. For example, communication can be done through Paycom but only via email. Most of our employees are warehouse employees who don't check email and don't have a work email. Some of the features work great on a mobile phone and others do not, so again if employees are not desk employees, doing things like enrolling in benefits can be difficult.

We use Paycom for time management, time-off requests and payroll. Paycom has been great for helping employees record their time accurately, calculating their pay efficiently and keeping the employee informed of their own paycheck. This product has taken away the need for manually calculating mileage, time worked and overtime. We use Paycom for 80+ employees so we have a wide range of employees and skill level with technology. All of our employees understand the system and how to use it so that they get paid correctly each payroll. Managers can view their employees time-off requests, approve their timecards and it is much more efficient.

in my experience, Paycom has been a great program to process payroll more efficiently and timely. The thought of doing payroll the old way sounds dreadful. This change has definitely been a positive change and one that I would recommend. Paycom also makes it easier to work on payroll outside of the office using their Manager on the Go app. If employees contact me while I'm outside of the office at meetings, I can still login and help answer their question quicker than I could before. Anytime you change systems there is a lot to learn, however, with the help of my implementation team and help features within the website, I can always get a quick response.

I utilize Paycom as an employee to input my vacation requests, update benefit profiles, and make changes to basic information as needed.
  • Time Management including time off requests and use of available PTO.
  • Benefits - profiles of the offered benefits are easily accessed.
  • Overall ability to help me understand my benefits and pay.
  • I think detailing accrued PTO vs. used and approved time off could be easier to follow.
  • Employee time off calendar is broken into different locations and not the whole employer.
  • Mobile capabilities increased.
Paycom works well as an employee allowing for basic changes to profiles and benefits without having to maintain and fill out paperwork.

Paycom helps us tremendously with day to day employee management and payroll. It helps us make sure we are compliant with anything related to HR, helps onboard new employees, and helps us get our employees paid weekly. Paycom is user friendly once you get everything set up to your company's standards.
  • Time & Attendance - we like that Paycom lets employees verify their own time card and clock in and out from their phones
  • Onboarding - online onboarding is much easier with Paycom
  • Employees manage their own data, so less company risk
  • When they do updates, sometimes there are bugs in the system
  • Seems like there is more employee turnover, I always have a new specialist
Paycom is great, but there are a few areas they could improve, which is why I gave a 9/10.

We use Paycom for our weekly payroll for employees and contractors. Prior to using Paycom we were using a rather well know company online to do our payroll and we were having many problems. Reaching out to customer service was very difficult and once we reached an actual person, we could never get back in touch with the same person to follow up on problems.

Paycom is well suited to any company, no matter the size. We are a small nonprofit, with only 7 employees and a few contractors. However, we feel that we are treated just as well as a company with 500 employees. We need Paycom's expertise with payroll and taxes, but we can't afford to pay a lot for it. Paycom makes it very affordable for small companies to receive their payroll/tax expertise.

The main thing that caused us to choose Paycom was their customer service. We have an assigned customer service representative for our account. This is very comforting to know that we have a consistent and reliable person who will be there to answer any questions or handle any problems that arise.

We've been a client of Paycom since 2002 and they have been a blessing to us over the years! We work on TV Broadcast towers all over the US and have employees from all over the country, who work in multiple states each year. Paycom makes it easy for us to track time through their Timekeeping system and allocate labor, per diem, mileage, etc to various States, Job #'s, Workers Comp Codes, and Tax Profiles. Their canned reports and report writers are amazing! We are easily able to do job cost imports into our accounting system making job costing a breeze! We have watched Paycom evolve over the years into the amazing product that you see today! They're constantly listening to the needs of their customers and are always open to hear ideas and suggestions that companies may have! Their development team is amazing! We would definitely recommend Paycom to anyone looking for a Payroll, Timekeeping, and HR solution!

  • I would like the ability to add new workers comp codes in the system on the client side rather than having to have the specialist do this.
  • I would also like the ability to assign multiple Workers Comp codes to employees in one pay period, similar to the abilities we have with Tax profiles where you can also tie workers comp codes to hours on the timecard so that it will process through payroll with the right rates. We currently have a work around for this, set up through Labor Allocation however we are still having to figure rate calculations manually and subtract out the excluded OT and it does not tie back to the actual Workers Comp in Paycom or the Canned Paycom Workers Comp Reports. This would be an awesome improvement for companies who have employees constantly traveling from state to state with multiple work comp codes in a single pay period.
Paycom provides an excellent Payroll, Timekeeping, and HR solution. The software versatility accommodates customers from all industries.

The Paycom system has tremendous capabilities. There are many functions that can be added if a company has a need to utilize that component. The system will work well for small companies to large companies and can be customized to meet the company's needs.
