We use Canto specifically in our department to manage our photo database. However, we do employ it across the organization to share images and documents as well as collect photos from our field personnel. It has also helped streamline our data sharing with a sister company that supports our design and marketing needs.
  • Detailed metadata that is easily searchable
  • Ability to share images with non-licensed users
  • Tag images as confidential or sensitive
  • Collect images from field personnel
  • Integration with Adobe products could allow for drag and drop functionality
  • Easier/Faster migration of large datasets
We've been using Canto specifically for our photo library. It does well managing images and large datasets. We have not used it for many other documents, so I cannot speak to other scenarios.

Canto is our Digital Asset Management tool. We have offices across six countries worldwide and use digital media to facilitate storytelling that advances our mission serving women and men who are experiencing poverty. Canto has made it remarkably easy for us to share, access, and sort photos and video of our projects. It is currently used by about 30 employees, from front-line workers to executives, and is accessed by countless partners.
  • Managing metadata of assets.
  • Sharing digital media via the cloud.
  • User management
  • Search function can be occasionally slow.
  • Smart tags aren't always relevant
Canto is an ideal product for any organization with a lot of digital media assets that would like a centralized, cloud-based service for storing, organizing, and distributing said assets. The metadata and tagging features make it easy to organize your photo assets and sort through to find the right ones for the job.

Canto is being used in my company as a switch over or replacement for our current server. The first part of that transition though is mainly having all of our photos from multiple departments all in one place and available to everyone. It is going to be used company-wide, but we have separate areas set up within by department. It solves the problem of storage space, controlled environment, security and an upgraded system.
  • Canto is great at letting you add multiple tags to photos, documents, and files so that they can be found by anyone no matter how they might be searching for it.
  • Canto has the upload ability to to complete transfer very large file folders and still keep the exact file structure and keep things labels and divided.
  • Canto is wonderful at being able to look for random and specific items across a large platform by your simple words or phrases.
  • Canto has a place where it automatically tags items as they are uploaded, and they call it smart tags. I think Canto could be tweaked a bit to pick up more common tags on it's own.
  • Canto has facial recognition yet cannot search within a bunch of photo files for pictures with tile flooring in them. I think this is an area for improvement.
  • Canto is able to upload large folders and keep the structure, but then is not able to keep the exact same structure when you are simply creating a new file within the program.
Canto is well suited for a variety of different uses and a variety of companies, rather large or small. It is well suited when it comes to photo uploads and storage. It seems to have fantastic security. It is easily accessible, although I think it would be nice if they had an app.

Our team has been using Canto as our DAM for our final artwork files for over two years. I'm quite pleased with the ease-of-use and the ability to get away from our dreaded corporate server! I like the way files are replaced and "versioned" simply by dragging the new one on top of the old file. The portals work great for the marketing projects for our individual clients as well.
  • File versioning
  • File cloud storage
  • Client portals
  • I'd like to see albums created automatically when a folder is added.
I would not recommend Canto as "in-process" file storage for art files, simply due to the handling of the folder structures.

To organize, upload and share content internally and externally. To more efficiently find imagery needed for projects and campaigns by using Canto's tagging system. Eventually, we will use it for sales purposes too.
  • Tagging
  • Ability to crop and resize photos when you download
  • Facial recognition
  • Photos aren't listed in numerical order, making it not easy to tag photos
  • Wish there was a collaborative workspace for users to give feedback on content, etc, what they do currently have isn't ideal
Canto is great for uploading photos and tagging. The searchability is really easy. It's nice for sharing files with team members and for sending projects to outside agencies and printers.

We use Canto to organize all of our digital assets. Once organized, they're easily accessible to our internal and external customers. We have users around the world accessing what we post to Canto. This means they can get what they need without having to contact us for each request which results in a better customer service experience for them.
  • Easily and clearly displays our digital assets
  • Helps categorize items with folders
  • Helps categorize items with easily searchable tags
  • Control access to specific assets
  • I'd like the tags to pre-populate
  • I'd like to make it easy for our users to get notified when new content is posted
Canto has saved us so much time from having to handle individual requests from our customer markets around the world for specific assets. With Canto, they can find what they're looking for without having to reach out to us as the manager of the assets. It also makes it easy for us to find assets for our own use among thousands of files.

We use Canto as a Digital Asset Manager for all content running through the Brand team. We store everything from photos, videos, and GIFs to Brand Guidelines and ads to launch. We also use Canto as an essential part of our Project Management system and content approval process. On the other side, we use Canto to share these assets with our media partners and agency partners. All we have to do is upload assets to Canto and share a link with any partners to get them going on any content requests. It really is a one-stop-shop for all your asset management needs. Our Brand and Creative team LOVES Canto!
  • Sharing assets to third party groups and partners
  • Storage for a decent price
  • Approval processes and project management systems
  • Ability for third parties to make selections or favorites from a collection
  • A better looking UI/UX
  • More portal templates
Canto is the perfect upgrade from your "Google Drive" way of organizing and approving content. You can easily upload all file types to a folder, collection, and portals and have all content searchable/at your fingertips. We have multiple teams that use Canto and it has made everyone's lives easier by having all content in one place and tagged with the appropriate product and campaigns. You only need to search and you can find the asset you are looking for. The only thing that is hard with Canto is that the shareability to third parties is a little tricky. It is easy enough to use a link to share a collection but if you want any selections or feedback from people outside the Canto seats, it is not fully possible.

Canto is being used as our digital management across our entire company as well as with partner organizations for all photography, videography, and documents used as sales training and resources. It provides us with a visual gallery that we can directly send to potential customers and serve us as an internal resource database for past designs throughout the entire sales process.
  • You can segment photos/files by specific folder/file name which helps when you want to see all examples of a certain type.
  • You can tag files with anything you want which helps with the global search bar.
  • I like the approved/pending/restricted label since it filters automatically.
  • Auto-tagging is impossible to use - it uses the same keywords as you used for the previous upload which is great when it's the exact same thing, but you have to manually delete whatever you don't want.
  • GeoView is also not user friendly. It doesn't prompt for a location upon uploading content.
Canto is well suited for your needs if you have a fairly simple product/file system where everything has its place. Less so when you have a multi-pronged product where everything can fit into multiple categories. I also wish that the Geo feature worked better and was more accessible. We've needed to input locations into a custom Google map to see all locations across the map.

We have years of photos from the field of our nonprofit work that have never been organized properly, so we were in need of a photo management solution to better organize and locate the assets we have.

We're currently in the process of implementing it, and hope it will save our team lots of time in the future as we grow and scale. It will be used across the whole organization, but mainly across marketing/creative/fundraising functions.
  • It has an easy UX and search capabilities
  • The visual library is so easy to navigate, and has a better visual experience than most competitors
  • It feels simplistic once you're trained and get the hang of it
  • The albums/folders are a little confusing, but their team is helpful in assisting
  • The entire application does not feel like it's built for retina Mac screens. Most buttons/features appear slightly pixelated on my Mac, and it feels like they haven't adapted it to be high-resolution for Mac retina screens.
  • I would love to see how they're constantly evolving and improving (not sure if they are)
It's great for small organizations who aren't looking for a super complicated system—but would like complex features as their org scales in the future. This is the best of both worlds with simplicity and high-powered tagging/metadata features.

Overall, the search functions and visual library sold me. Great for a staff that isn't the most tech-savvy or maintaining close attention to detail. Don't implement though unless you have a clear project manager over Canto with clear structure on asset uploads/tagging. It is work up front (for every system, not just Canto), but the simplicity of the service comes later if you set it up well.

Canto is our go-to repository for all of our images, drawings, videos, and assets that we use in presentations, pitches, and proposals. Over the past 13 years, we've accrued a huge collection and found ourselves spending far too much time searching for various assets. Canto has helped fix that.
  • Image search.
  • Object tagging.
  • Asset repository.
  • UI/UX.
  • Quality of image preview.
  • Load speed.
Canto is great if you have a medium to large size team that needs access to many assets. Even if you're a small team, it would be best to start off with Canto to save yourself time in the future.

Our goal is to paint the picture for the client. To provide them with a real connection to our homes. Canto allows me to easily create personal share links of photos and introductory videos meaningful to my clients. I love that it is web-based and has all of the various features. Before Canto, our company had all our photos of multiple homes we had built stored in file folders on our servers. I had to comb through hundreds of photos. Canto helped create a fast database that we could control ourselves, tagging, searching, and labeling photos quickly and easily. Big time saver for me.
  • Searching photos
  • Creating share links for clients
  • Tagging and organize thousands of photos
  • Easy to navigate
  • Zero buffering or lag issues
  • Time saving
  • Easy to share with clients
  • Easy of use with mobile phone regarding share links
  • Enhance photo editing like Google
  • Adding verbiage to photos links
  • Use Google Photo Albums share links as an example to improve
Best suited for creating a cloud-based search engine for tons and tons of photos.

Canto is being used throughout the whole organization. Canto has allowed information to be communicated throughout the organization clearly, especially branding and promotion material that is used by every member. Before using Canto, transferring data between departments was an unorganized mess. It led to not being able to access pertinent assets in a timely manner. Canto has allowed it to be in one place and accessible.
  • Allows for multiple users with various collaboration restrictions. This allows someone that simply brings in content for our organization to do that without getting lost in other content through a sharing link, whereas someone who is involved in using the content can have full access.
  • Provides a branding platform that is easy to reference and use.
  • Allows our full organization to be on the same page about branding and media use, which brings about consistency and unity.
  • Moving from the home screen to individual folders can be confusing and hard to navigate repeatedly.
  • Integration with presentation software isn't seamless, making for extra work to provide a ready-to-use presentation.
Canto has been well suited for acquiring data from many different members and making it easy for those members to contribute data. It has also worked well for communicating key information in branding and promotion throughout our organization trying to get everyone on the same page. This has largely been where my experience has been focused.

COOLA began using the Canto platform to easily share assets internally, b2b, and to have a consumer-facing option. While primarily a creative & marketing assets platform in terms of what is stored, our entire company utilizes the system daily. With Canto in place, we are able to automate a lot of requests for assets that normally would've bogged down the creative and marketing teams. Canto solved 3 main issues for us: 1. Organize and store creative and marketing assets remotely on one platform. 2. Allow for automation to our internal team, outside sales, and b2b or other outside vendors. 3. Easily and quickly search for and share assets while also automating licensing for the assets.
  • Automation
  • Visual Database
  • Quick Sharepoints
  • Great Customer Service
  • Innovation in Product
  • Standardization of Assets
  • Digital Asset Storage & Licensing Management
  • Speed in browsing through databases.
  • More customization for specific use cases.
  • More customization with portals.
Canto is very well suited for media and image assets. It is very visual and makes it easy to browse and find images and videos by sight. The customer-facing and b2b facing interfaces are well done and provide a lot to work with for a solid experience. I don't think Canto would be a great solution for more document-heavy uses where a visual component wasn't the primary problem that needed to be addressed. I also don't think that Canto is a great replacement for pure file storage. For instance, we use Canto on the Creative team end to store our toolkit files or final files, but we do not use Canto to house our working files. Just the final product from those working files that is approved for use or deployment to our consumers or vendor partners.

Canto is being used by almost everyone at my company. We create thousands of ads every year, but before this, had no clear way to find past projects, there wasn't an organization tool. We are using Canto as a repository for our best in class work, and this can be helpful to everyone. We have the sales team using it to find great examples of past work with specific verticals/ad placements/brands, etc. The creative team is using it to find awesome examples of specific creative techniques to elevate their work.

So in short, we're using Canto as a place to house the best of every category of work we do, so that anyone on the team can find what they need!
  • Share links. Now, we can share video asset examples to our clients without them having to download it! They can click on the link, and watch it immediately in a browser, major time saver. Also, for security reasons, it's great that we can set an expiration date to those links, and toggle download permissions.
  • Filter bar. I love how I can quickly filter the assets I currently have in my window. I might use the search function, but realize I missed one part of the search. No worries, I can quickly filter those results!
  • Portals and Workspaces. I love how I can control what users can see in their portals, and that I can use a Workspace to organize assets before making them visible on the general Canto library. This allows me the time to organize assets on Canto, without risking them falling into other's hands before they're ready.
  • I don't love the share features for My Collections. Right now, to share a collection externally, you have to go to the collection, select all the assets, and create a share link. There should be a share link creation associated with the collection itself.
  • Moving and creating folders and albums is slow. Anytime I create or move one, the system will take quite a few seconds of loading time. Also, after it's done, the entire folder structure will collapse to its smallest state, and I usually want it to remain the way it was.
  • Tagging. This isn't a unique issue with Canto, but I wish tagging was less manual, wish I could create shortcuts for tags. I have to make repetitive tags as I want to make sure the right results come up for a user, no matter how they search for it. For example, I'll manually tag an asset "e-comm" "ecomm" e-commerce" and "ecommerce."
If you are looking to host a repository of visual assets, this is your place. If you're creating a repository for discovery, this is your place. If you're trying to make a place where you can find assets quickly and easily, this is great for you.

However, if you're looking to create an educational portal, this may not be the right environment. Leaving notes and comments on Canto is a little hard to do, and they are not easy to find when looking at an asset.

It's used for the legal department only. We use it to share all the information with our teammates so they can easily access, download, and work in an easier way than go to the physical documentation. And, due to the pandemic working from home, Canto solves all the documentation needs for everyone.
  • Organization on the files
  • Easy access for download and share
  • Security regarding the fact you can share your documents with the people you want.
  • Easy app
  • The file migration; it can't be done one time.
You can access all your data from anywhere. You can share, customize the way you share, and download your documents. Also, you can create portals where you can work specifics without involving everybody on the team. Also, you can have statistics on your users about uploading, time on the platform, etc.

We use Canto to store all of our digital assets, from stock photography, product labels, video, marketing assets like brochures, and even headshots! Our entire company uses Canto in various ways depending on their department. Before Canto, we were storing our files on various hard drives - and each time we needed something we'd play everyone's fun game of "who has it", "who has the latest version", and "where are the attachments to this InDesign file". Now, everyone has the ability to log in and quickly keyword search for exactly what they are looking for.
  • Visually show you the file in a thumbnail without having to click on it
  • Keyword search to find files relating to exactly what you're looking for
  • Easy user upload and download
  • Ability to share assets with outside members
  • The servers get slow after a single use experience of uploading items
  • The servers can't handle large uploads (for instance like 1 GB) very well
  • It would be nice to not have to pay for more than 5 users
Canto can definitely help a company efficiently store and find their assets, especially if they have a lot of them (files in the thousands). The ability to visually see and search for a file in seconds is why our company signed up. Their support staff has also been nothing short of amazing. I will say, though, if you're looking for an easy way to share assets outside of your organization without too much hassle, Canto can be a bit clunky sometimes.

We are excited to use Canto for the management of our digital marketing assets for ease of searchability and consistency for our teams. It is currently being used by our Marketing teams, but we anticipate it being used by many more departments. It is very hard to search for the right stock photo within a folder, and it is impossible to keep up with the licensing. Canto solves both issues.
  • Easy implementation
  • Google Drive/External Link Synchronization
  • Does all the hard work for us
  • After the setup time frame, we got everything working to where it was 100%. We have enjoyed our service since implementation.

Canto has helped us to share assets across the team in an organised fashion. I love the ability to tag and sort the images as we see fit and use the custom tagging features to ensure the team can search by whatever is easiest for them. You can easily find all assets for a particular product by searching for that product name, or all content featuring the same model. It's also been helpful in the post-production process for shoots, whereby we can have conversations with the photographer via Canto comments. This has saved a lot of back and forth! The team loves it and it's made our lives a lot easier since we've been using it.
  • Custom tagging
  • Commenting
  • Content categorisation
  • Reduced cost for additional admin/contributor profiles would be nice. As our team grew, we needed more but the cost feels a bit high for more people to be added with this access level.
Canto has been really helpful for custom tagging so that anyone in the marketing team, or wider business, can quickly and easily find the images or videos they need by searching in the way they want to - e.g. by product name or model name. It has improved our post-production process as we can easily have conversations with the photographer using the comments section to pinpoint what we are talking about, rather than having lengthy email exchanges with screenshots.

We used Canto to house all of the creative assets that we use in our marketing efforts and product photography website catalog. We also collect all of our UGC here as well. We use portals to allow the press to connect with us.
  • Portals for external Press or Outside Agencies
  • Easily relate images which we use for UGC and approvals
  • Easy to use
  • Price can get expensive after a while

It's being used by everyone internally and will be used by our clients once we set those portals up so they have better immediate access to image files. The full company uses Canto, although it was chosen with Mar/Comms and BizDev needs in mind.
  • Best search functionality out of all other DAM systems I looked into.
  • Frequent product updates.
  • Good customer service.
  • Slow load times (especially for video).
  • Only admins ("power users") can upload assets into the main library. Canto limits the number of admin seats you can have.
  • Initial training was not very helpful.
Canto is well suited if you need to organize images, videos, and other files across teams. It has some functionality to allow version control and editing on the platform, but I wouldn't say it's quite robust enough to replace Frame.io, Vimeo, Light Room, etc.

Canto is used as the enterprise-wide DAM system. It's helping store, organize, and distribute content across channels at all stages of production. It helps reduce duplicate efforts across teams, which saves time and resource costs. It also ensures proper governance, digital rights management, and allows for controlled sharing with external partners.
  • Asset management and distribution.
  • Detailed permissions structures.
  • Portals and style guides.
  • More direct integrations with programs like Sketch and Bridge would be great! (already has some other Adobe product integrations).
  • More control over the Smart Tags feature would be really useful - to be able to train it a certain way (using brand terms, for example) or teach it not to tag certain things would help us customize the automatic tags it adds—removing some of these is a manual process (even with confidence set at 95).
  • Transparency for the price tiers for adding more power users and more storage space would be helpful in our planning.
It's great if you need an interface that anyone can use with a lot of features. It's user-friendly and very visual, which is great. We use the sharing features and portals a lot to share assets with external partners, and the controls around those are excellent. It's well suited to organizations with lots of assets. It would probably be less appropriate for smaller teams or companies that don't need to control detailed permissions or DRM.
