What is Paycom?

For 25 years, Paycom Software, Inc. (NYSE:PAYC) has offered businesses and their employees HR and payroll technology that provides direct access to their data. Paycom's Beti® technology enables employees to do their own payroll, so they are guided to find and fix costly errors before payroll submission. From onboarding and benefits enrollment to talent management, Paycom’s software streamlines processes, and gives employees access to their own HR information. Paycom can now serve businesses of all sizes in the U.S. and internationally.

Paycom states they have approximately 36,820 clients across the United States (as of Dec. 31, 2023), up 1% from the prior year. On April 15, 2014, Paycom became a public company with its shares opening for trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PAYC. In early 2020, the company joined the S&P 500.

We utilize Paycom as our payroll and human resource management system. Employees are able to access their payroll information 24/7 from any location. Managers can access and approve their payroll 24/7 from any location.
  • Remote access.
  • Reduces data entry by human resources.
  • Ease of use.
  • Ability for multiple supervisors to approve separate time on the same day. Currently it is all of nothing with only one supervisor able to approve.
Paycom has adjusted well to the needs of parks and recreation by offering multiple job codes and cascading labor allocations. Paycom is well suited for those on the go with the Manager On-The-Go app. Cannot really think of an industry where Paycom would not be suited for.

For me, PayCom and their agents are a God Send!! The agents are always helpful, know what I'm going through and are able to walk me through resolutions without me feeling like a crazy person. I know I may sound that way when I first call in, but they are like my therapists, and I can breathe a sigh of relief after I talk with them. Now, this doesn't often happen because I've learned a lot about PayCom over the past couple of years. But when it does, it's earth-shattering for me. LOL.

  • Always knowing how to find an answer even if they don't know it right off the top of their head.
  • Helping me think through the options of resolution.
  • Recently, I've gone through a change of representation and that person was not available for the last 2 weeks ....but there was someone checking her emails so that is good!
  • Returning my phone calls or emails when someone other than my representative is helping with a problem.
  • I've not really had any bad issues where PayCom could improve ... just a few recent snafus's with the change of representative.

Paycom is used for Talent Acquisition, Performance Reviews, Timesheets, Scheduling, and Payroll. Any minor issues that may come up are addressed quickly by our Client Representative.

Paycom has been an essential tool for our organization, helping to simplify tasks such as payroll and employee benefits. Throughout learning these processes, Paycom has been available 100% of the time for any hands-on assistance. I have also been able to utilize some of their online webinars that serve as a guide for almost every aspect of Paycom. I have learned so much in a relatively short period of time that has allowed me to simplify managing employees and their needs, submitting flawless payroll, and smoothly enrolling our employees in their benefits.

  • Occasionally we struggle to get into contact without a dedicated specialist who would know more detail about our personal circumstances. However, Paycom seems to always have an expert standing by that can jump in when needed. Ultimately, we get great help quickly, no matter what.
Paycom is well suited for people who have little experience with HR and Payroll functionality because it simplifies what is needed. Not only that, but Paycom seems to have a representative or technology that can catch errors and will send out regular reminders or warnings when it appears something may be either missing or incorrect.

I use Paycom to its fullest. We currently are using the Beti Payroll System in Paycom. It has been such a great experience moving to Paycom with all that it has. Payroll has become so much easier and takes less time. I love how you can created special reports to my liking or what other managers want to see. Paycom has a great Audit Report and also Validation before sending my weekly and Biweekly Payroll. I have roughly 70 Union Employees that require multiple hourly rates bases on our Union Contract. Paycom is able to adjust to our Union Contracts. When you need extra help our dedicated Paycom Specialist is only an email away. You also can call and get the next available Specialist to help you.
When deciding on your next Payroll Program please consider Paycom!

  • They can adapt and add to your special and complicated needs.
  • End of Year is so easy now!
  • Three or more Decimals. They only use two decimals and round up.

Paycom is an employee interactive HRIS System that is used to manage personnel upon the prospective employee's job application until termination and or retirement. We manage time recording and attendance, payroll, employee benefits, documentation of training programs and general communications, as well as distribution of the employee manual, new policies, and procedures. So, essentially, all things that are employee related.
  • Annual Employee Benefits enrollment is self administered.
  • time and attendance tracking including all PTO.
  • Documentation and follow-up on required training programs with reminders sent to the employee if the training is not yet completed.
  • We have no known issues; most issues are user error and require training and orientation that allows the employee to be self-managed.
Paycom is a comprehensive HRIS solution. Of course, implementation requires a detailed understanding of Paycom's operations, but the Paycom implementation and data migration team are very knowledgeable and supportive.

We use Paycom for payroll and HR services, including ACA, EEO1 Reporting, Benefits and more. Basically the only product we are not using is talent acquisition and surveys. We run 32 separate payrolls every two weeks to get all of our employees paid correctly in their respective entities and run open enrollment through the system. We have 5 payroll and benefits contacts that individually use the system for different purposes.

Paycom is great for companies with smaller internal staffing counts, i.e. - if you need a few people to maintain a lot of records. It's great for maintaining said records to the employee files and always available in case of an audit - their information never goes into an archive state. You can also set scheduled reports to generate and the reports are very dynamic in the information they can pull. When you start getting into the larger workforce count, the system has noticeable slowness that increases in proportion. This seemed to hit has we were getting closer to 1500-1600 employees, and payroll can take an upwards of 45 minutes to an hour just to initially load.

I am very pleased with Paycom. They are easy to communicate with you. They don't get irritated if you have multiple easy questions or issues. The only recent issue i had was they were TOO PROMPT. I submitted a payroll transaction and needed to recall it. Within 5 minutes they had already processed it making the process a little more challenging. But they worked with me and it was done.

Highly recommend. Paycom is awesome for companies that have hourly employees that need to clock in and out and need an app. Paycom is awesome for companies that are smaller and want to own payroll. Paycom files all of our taxes and provides tax documents at the end of the year. Need a wide range of reports? Create your own reports. Paycom is awesome! Paycom is easy to use for end-user and administrators. Easy setup; I didn't have to do much on my end. They did it all.

Shepherd uses Paycom as its main HR/PR platform, including ATS. I am the lone payroll administrator for a 5-location, 320-employee company. I handle all payroll processing and benefits. Paycom allows employees access to request time off and manage their personal information through the app. Managers also have access to their employees through Manager On The Go.
  • Vacation and Sick Accruals.

  • Payroll processing.
  • Quarterly Tax Reports should be available sooner than the month following the end of a quarter.
  • New forms design is clunky and more difficult to read.

I use Paycom to process payroll for hourly and salary employees on a bi-weekly basis. The HR department utilizes the software for onboarding as well. We have recently mapped our G/L and are excited to start utilizing that aspect of the software as well. Our employees use the software for timekeeping, pay stubs, and HR issues.

This is an all-encompassing system that empowers employees to make changes and be responsible for their own information. The system is robust in its capabilities in every capacity we have tried it out on! The report writer is super handy! And using the talent management piece is the best decision we've ever made!

We use it across the whole organization. It centralizes our communication with our employees if it is related to payroll, benefits, or performance.
  • Communication and enrollment for benefits for our employees was a huge change and it is a simple platform to set up and manage day to day.
  • The ability to provide one location for all employee information is great for both the employee and the organization.
  • I had a hard time at first with the payroll specialist that was assigned to our account. Once I found the right person, we work wonderfully together. It made a world of difference.
  • When working in multiple states, I would like the ability to lock the labor allocation to the specific location, but if they work at another location, you can't override the lock that is placed. Even as an administrator, you can't override the labor allocation.
  • Not informing us of updates before they happen.
  • I would like the ability to keep employee corrective action and conversation logs.
I think the setup for labor allocation works great for us but to have the ability to only show specific labor allocation/cost centers to a location would be great. Right now with our trucking company, every route we run is a labor allocation. I can enter a "lock" to show the employees under that location its specific labor allocation/cost centers. Here is where the problem comes in: we have so many drivers that cross locations and with the "lock" on specific location/cost centers, they cannot change from their home department or another department. Even as an administrator, I can't change this. I would love to be able to override anything in time and attendance as an administrator.

Paycom is amazing. It does so much it is hard to begin to explain all that it can do, but once you start, it is hard to stop. From applicant tracking, where you post a job online, and you automatically hire the person and don't have to re-enter information. All information is shared with payroll, time and attendance, and HR. Onboarding is a breeze. Paperless became a reality. On-stop shop. Training and compliance in one place.

Paycom is our current HR/Payroll platform. It helps us manage our employees and process payroll. The app helps us communicate with our employees very efficiently. It allows us to push more of the responsibility to the employee for their benefits management and payroll changes. It also allows them to utilize the time-keeping functions through the app.

  • Good accessibility to CSRs when issues arise
  • Cloud based which allows connectivity from anywhere
  • More accessibility to senior CSRs for more involved custom setups within the system
  • Less turnover in the CSR position would be a huge plus
  • Better help features in the system on more custom reporting
Out of the four HR/Payroll platforms we've implemented Paycom is the best. While no system is perfect, I've experienced fewer issues with Paycom than any of the others. And, if an issue does arise, I can usually get it resolved fairly quickly with our dedicated CSR. If not, another CSR can jump into the issue and get it corrected.

We use Paycom to process weekly payrolls, track time, track earnings, and run a variety of reports for various internal and external entities. Paycom does the taxes, and we set up an automatic drawdown to pay the weekly payrolls, so it makes the weekly process smooth and easy. I only know the payroll functions, but we also use it for new hires, and benefits use it for a variety of functions as well. I like Paycom because its accurate, flexible, and reliable.
  • Flexibility - for example, cutting a manual check and processing it in minutes.
  • Accuracy - running labor allocation reports for audits my totals always tie out.
  • Knowledgeable resources - Our client representative is very helpful in explaining any questions we have and offers solutions for some issues we bring up.
  • I was not a fan of the last update - although I may need to use it more. I am just finding it harder than before to locate or how to do something, whereas the previous way it was set up, it seemed it was already optimized.
  • In certain times like a short holiday week, the system can appear to slow down. I am curious if it's just my large payroll or users trying to get things done.
I answer what I know - it is good for Payroll - I like the system, it's easy to use and reliable, and we have no problem getting our payrolls done on time and accurately. I can't say offhand that I can think of other scenarios where it is less appropriate.

Paycom is an integral part of our payroll and finance compliance. We use Paycom for reporting on a variety of business issues ranging from Workers' Compensation to complex Tax Reporting. Additionally, Paycom is a major part of our i9 and onboarding compliance and allows us to serve our employees and job applicants in an expeditious manner.
  • Customer service is US based and dedicated
  • Reporting assistance
  • Additional features such as BETI for payroll efficiency
  • Exceptional self-onboarding features
  • I would like to see more customer service hours, especially on weekends
  • Make more videos on how to run common reports such as workers compensation
  • Should offer more products such as Payroll loans with low interest to assist with cash flow
If you are looking for better use of and incorporation of technology into your business and more efficiency, Paycom is the way to go. You can limit expenses associated with HR personnel and Payroll analysis by incorporating many of the automation.

We use Paycom to handle our daily payroll and to maintain all personnel data for employees. It is used by the whole organization, and it addresses support orders, insurance issues and Texas Workforce Commission requirements.
  • Accurate computation of employee's pay record.
  • Quarterly Texas UI Tax Report filings.
  • Input of employee's wage garnishments.
  • Excellent response to management's concerns and Paycom guidance for external agencies request.
  • Access to quarterly and yearly documents for TWC.
Expert payroll advise, training and initial indoctrination to Paycom are superb and our initial Paycom team were knowledgeable, helpful and professional.

  • Documents a variety of time off accruals

  • Tracks personal and professional goals
  • The process for documenting goals can be confusing; this is probably based on language and what’s a role goal vs an over and above goal.
I believe Paycom works best in organizations with10+ employees. It’s a great tracking tool for both hourly and salary. I’ve used it as a employee and a manager and I’ve found it intuitive and user friendly with minimal training required.

We use Paycom for employee documents, onboarding, employee checklists, talent acquisition & applicant tracking, benefit enrollment/administration, ACA reporting, EEO-1 reporting, OSHA reporting and FMLA tracking, ACA reporting, payroll, accruals, personnel action & discussion forms and learning, surveys, and more. We also run reports and review analytics.

  • Constant training webinars, live and recorded, to assist you with learning all that Paycom does
  • Innovative improvements
  • All modules are with Paycom and not between different companies/providers
  • I can't think of anything negative and don't have any complaints
After researching several HRIS software platforms, Paycom was our first choice and we have no regrets. Our work is less redundant, has fewer errors and spreadsheets, 100% digital and common sense work flows make the software very user friendly. The support team and dedicated customer service rep are accessible and easy to work with.
