I recommend and use Iterable with several of my clients. My main role is to help set up the platform and strategize affective email campaigns for my clients. Iterable's robust system allows us to really understand our customers and drive conversion. I'm able to set up multiple user journeys for my clients to increase conversion. These journeys include: welcome campaign, promotions, winback, cart abandonment, etc. I'm also able to run deep analysis on each campaign to help us better understand the customers and their buying habits.
  • Templates make it very easy to set up dozens of campaigns, while minimizing the time it takes to create it. Anyone can create a template with not HTML knowledge required.
  • Iterable is great for analysis. We're able to really understand the customer based on what products they purchase and how they interact with each campaign.
  • Segmentation is a huge win because we're able to send hyper-focused emails to specific customers.
  • Journey's are very easy to use and have a lot of capability.
  • While Iterable is great for analysis, I do wish they have a more visual way to display the analysis. It's very technical but some people prefer charts and graphs.
Iterable is great for email marketers that are not advanced/technical in emails. They made it very simple to create emails and run campaigns. Everything about Iterable is very easy - from creating emails with drag and drop functionality, segmenting and creating send lists, and even setting up a journey. The only downside with Iterable is that it's mainly meant for larger companies. There are better platforms if you're using email in a very simple way.

Iterable serves as our omni-channel digital engagement platform, providing our capabilities for running email, sms, mobile push and in-app messaging to customers across our multi-brands across the globe. It serves to send transactional comms as well as lifecycle and batched marketing to our large customer file. Our customer service teams also use it to communicate show changes in a more manual transactional comm type as well.
  • Journey Building
  • Customer Segmentation with Large Data Volumes
  • Frequent Campaign Email Programs
  • At times rigid data infrastructure (elastic)
  • Beta features can be buggy
  • Mobile features under developed compared to some mobile first competitors
I'm a pretty big fan of Iterable, but I'll never say there is a perfect tool for every use case. Iterable is really great for people who have large email programs. Layering in a need for some mobile messaging, it's a great fit. Iterable is also very good at customer journey building or drip flows or canvas building depending on what tool you're used to - their workflow tool has arguably some of the strongest, if not the strongest functionality in the industry. If you have even basic events flowing, you can immediately uplevel your customer lifecycle program with Iterable's capabilities. If you're only an iPhone App and you don't really have an email program, this probably isn't the right tool for you. Similarly if you just upload an email list as your data management, go with something cheaper/simpler.

At LeadMark, we specialize in financial publishing and lead generation. We do that through the power of email marketing, specifically via the publication of 7 "main" free newsletters. We mail tens of millions of emails each week, and there aren't many platforms that can handle the volume of emails we send, or the intricate ways we break down the data and share it with our database. Iterable has been able to provide everything that we need to handle our email marketing within a single framework, making it much easier for us to have seamless function and easier training and transition as teams grow and change.
  • It makes designing and deploying great looking emails easy with their drag-and-drop technology and framework.
  • Iterable allows for great customization and time-saving with the use of their handlebar snippets. This has revolutionized how we are able to monetize our editorial audiences using clear logic that helps us get the most for each of our conversion efforts.
  • The various ways that you can run and view reports is incredibly helpful, and easy to customize. This means we can find most of the data we want and need across our various departments with their differing goals without having to piecemeal together crazy solutions or waste time reinventing the wheel.
  • One of my biggest frustrations with Iterable is that, in their continual quest for improvement, they sometimes make rather large and highly impactful changes to the platform without giving users ample notice or details on how to navigate the changes.
  • The heatmaps are wildly inaccurate if you don't toggle to see raw data. This was something no one exactly tells you, and you have to figure it out for yourself. It can be vastly different than the reality. I'm hoping this is something that gets fixed ASAP.
  • Notifications are hard to work with. You can't scroll through them or navigate different pages, so it's feasible you could miss an important notification in accounts that are very active and sending out a lot of blasts and journeys.
While we sometimes laugh and joke and call Iterable "irritable", the truth is that it's the best system out there for large enterprise needs. We've tested out a slew of other solutions that make a lot of big promises, but fail to deliver. That is why 7 out of 7 of my directly-controlled newsletters operate out of the Iterable platform.

That said, it is the best of the best, and it isn't cheap. Smaller organizations that have small lists or haven't yet mastered monetizing their lists would have a hard time absorbing these costs and staying in the black. It's amazing, but you kind of have to "grow into it."

I use the platform to send communications to our users through our owned channels (email, in-app, push notifications), as well as develop user journeys and conduct user segmentation investigations and A/B testing.
  • Campaign creation UX.
  • Segmentation UX.
  • User journey UX.
  • In-app metrics reporting.
  • Heat map accuracy.
  • Click metrics in general (differentiating between dismiss vs. clicks on CTA).
It is excellent for sending emails as well as setting up triggered user journeys. For example, if I wanted to send a message to users when they complete a challenge in the app, but only users who have their app set to English and are located in the US, I can do so via Journeys very easily. It is not well suited for reporting in-app engagement metrics. The click rate reflects not only clicks on the CTA but also clicks on any dismiss button. I have to manually go into the campaign and download the "In-app Clicks" document in order to determine actual clicks on the CTA. "

My company has a dual-sided marketplace, with very different users with different goals and lifecycles. Iterable allows us to use powerful segmentation and event-based triggers to ensure we are sending the right message at the right time to the right user. It also allows us to easily implement a cross-channel strategy across email, SMS, push, and in-app messages all seamlessly within one workflow.
  • Customer service/support
  • Continuous new feature releases
  • Powerful segmentation capabilities
  • Offer more in-app messaging capabilities (without additional cost)
  • Some UX improvements/suggestions never get prioritized
  • Handlebars can have somewhat of a large learning curve
Iterable is a powerful and sophisticated marketing automation tool with a lot of opportunities for personalization and segmentation. I recommend it for companies with robust CRM programs and ample support from product, engineering, and data teams. It is less suited for companies who focus on simpler CRM strategies (e.g. newsletters, surveys, etc.) and more for companies whose strategies focus on event-triggered messages, nurture flows, and multi-touch lifecycles.

We use the Iterable platform as our main platform of customer-facing communication. We are able to communicate to our with our customer base via multiple channels which include email, sms, push for web notifications. We also use it to create customer-driven lifecycle journey workflows that allow us to automate communications at a set rate.
  • Data management
  • Integration
  • Support
  • Template builder
  • Some basic functionality that is not out of beta yet
  • Email throttling is still in beta, make sure to request it
  • Email send quantity governance I in beta and we need this
Great platform if you do B2C and have different campaign and a lifecycle to manage. If you want to control the timing, cadence and logic criteria behind your sends, identify segments based on engagement and also make ai driven decisions and channel optimizations. Not recommended for a mom-and-pop solution who don’t have a lot of volume or use cases.

We use Iterable to communicate with thousands of our customers and leads. Iterable is built on using data to bridge the gap between the consumer and the brand. We're able to pull thousands of data from our system to create highly dynamic and segmented campaigns. We've built out complex journeys and campaigns to provide value and resources - from acquisition to renewal.
  • They built out a very easy-to-use system to create triggered campaigns based on behavior.
  • They have a professional and responsive customer service team
  • Their email builder is one of the best I have seen. It's also optimized for mobile.
  • Some of Iterable's user interface in Journey is a little confusing. This is a personal preference.
  • Their image uploading is very basic - but they are working on releasing a new version soon.
  • It's difficult to look up a specific contact by only being able to search their email. I wish I could search by name without having to use segmentation
I've used several different email platforms and Iterable is by far the best. Their platform was very easy to use and perfect for both someone who's new to email marketing and someone who's worked in emails for 20+ years. They created a great way to organize all templates through folders and labels. It's easy to navigate through insights and specific campaigns. Iterable's strong suit is how they use user attributes to create highly segmented, highly dynamic campaigns.

We leverage Iterable for customer lifecycle campaigns across multiple clients and lines of business. Our previous solutions were not as robust or intelligent as the solutions provided with Iterable in terms of messaging journeys and ease of use. We are also responsible for managing other teams' projects within the organization and serving as liaisons and subject matter experts for self-serve within the platform.
  • Customer lifecycle
  • Targeting and holdout groups
  • Ease of data availability and reporting
  • Overall UI enhancements to increase customer experience
  • More robust features when it comes to API key management
  • Less focus on over-simplifying logic gates and UI
We have seen great success in the customer lifecycle campaigns as it pertains to customer retention and the timeliness of the messaging. Leveraging the upcoming AI features will add to this experience and possibly help increase retention and reduce churn. Iterable performs well for the tasks we've used the tool for, but setting up recurring campaigns that leverage an ODBC connection is a feature gap that would help in the speed to market of solutions we use other tools for.

  • Reporting

  • International Education for best practice (for global accounts)
Personally this onboarding has not been great. While the team is friendly we have experienced bugs, what feels like daily issues, and have to create our own workarounds. I feel like the platform is not as intelligent as it is pitched.

My organization is currently in the warm-up phase of using Iterable. Once fully warmed- up, we will be using Iterable for our Email and SMS campaigns. Our goal is to eventually utilize all of Iterable's other functions (mobile push, push in-app messaging, etc.).
  • Implementation support
  • Customer Support
  • Educational Services & Training
  • Interface navigation- the campaign builder can be difficult to navigate at times
  • Media catalog- In my experience, you cannot access the media catalog for images without going into the campaign builder. Once an image is added to the media catalog, you cannot move it into and out of different folders
My organization is still in the warm-up phase. If your organization needs assistance and "hand-holding" with implementing and warming up a new automation platform, Iterable is a great choice. Our implementation specialist has helped our Marketing and IT teams set up Iterable for our unique use-case and provided a thorough project roadmap for us to follow during the process. Iterable also has an online course that teaches you the foundations of the platform so you can start building basic email and SMS campaigns.

We are using Iterable to email users at different stages of their product journey. We use them to trigger the emails, journeys, and to send batch and blast campaigns. We segment our users and personalize their journeys to be able to reach them using Iterable. We host email templates, audience segmentations, journeys, etc. in Iterable.
  • Easy visualization of journeys
  • Simple segmentations of users
  • Ability for personalization
  • Easy modification of templates
  • Some of the features are clunky
  • There are sometimes errors when using the product/things that don't work
Iterable is really good for marketers to be able to see journeys and visualize them. It is good for companies with large amounts of segmentation and who want to be able to personalize their user journeys based on their information. It is good for people with limited coding knowledge to also build email templates using drag and drop or limited html.

Our business has been using Iterable for the last 3 years, and we could not be more pleased with it. We have to have a tight turnaround on a number of our emails, and Iterable's product and the simplicity of being able to create the email from start to finish quickly is amazing. The ability to integrate custom events from actions that take place on our websites is a huge benefit too, making sure we can market our products to those most interested.
  • List segmentation
  • Drag/Drop editor template building
  • Journey creation for email workflows
  • Quick link from campaign list page to view all analytics of the email
No one on our marketing team has HTML training, but thanks to Iterable's ease of use and the drag/drop template builder, we are able to create great looking emails for our company. Their list/segmentation builder is outstanding as well, making it very understandable to get the most targeted lists created for our buisness. The ease of integration and ability to tie actions that happen on our sites to events in Iterable, and the ability to segment off of those events, is a huge benefit as well.

We use Iterable as our CRM to send all customer communications via email and push - both automated and manual efforts. We use it across our marketing and operations team to enable our customers and partners a better understanding of the current status across their accounts and to get them engaged in our product.
  • Easy to use WYSIWYG
  • Easy to manage messaging across the product
  • Engineering loves the API
  • Not as powerful as other Enterprise level CRM systems
  • Sandbox is broken
  • Testing is hard given all the variables across events/profiles
It's a great tool for companies that have a small dedicated CRM system.

We use Iterable to put the user journey into the hands of our marketing team and reduce the load on our engineering team to communicate with our members. Our iOS, Android, and web clients all send events to Iterable that we use to trigger campaigns to communicate with our community via email, text, and in-app messages.
  • Push notification campaigns
  • Complex workflows
  • Track member events
  • Implementation takes awhile
Iterable is well suited for startups to small-medium sized companies that have a budget for member communication. If you don't have the budget, it's probably not for you. If you have a very large dataset of members, other CRM tools may be more appropriate.

We use Iterable for a range of marketing communications, primarily client retention. We have a range of communications set up; from newsletters to complex and targeted workflows.

I find Iterable to have a simple user interface and straightforward to build a workflow. Editing emails and implementing filters are easy compared to other systems. Reporting is simple and easy to access.
  • Ease of use
  • Simple reporting
  • Good support from our account manager
  • Complex workflows are slow
  • Reporting is a little too simple. I'd like to have the ability to set up reports on specific emails within a workflow
  • I'd like a more comprehensive inbox testing system
Easy to setup up since email campaigns, and straightforward logic on conditional content for segmentation

We use Iterable for Promotional and Operational email sends. We had some issues with Eloqua creating decision rules on real-time data. But Iterable solved that problem for us.
  • Decisions on Real-Time data
  • Custom fields availability
  • You can message your customers across various channels (email, SMS, push, in-app messages, and web push notification) and grow your customer base, boost engagement, and increase user lifetime value
  • Subscription Management could be better
  • We should have a Master Exclude filter/list
  • Integration with SFDC
Iterable is good if you want to message your customers across various channels (email, SMS, push, in-app messages, and web push notification) and grow your customer base, boost engagement, and increase user lifetime value.
It is less appropriate when you have multiple form pages and you want to trigger confirmation emails to the contacts.

I use Iterable to launch email blast campaigns for multiple automotive dealerships and engage customers with the use of Journeys. Journeys help us automate aspects of customer engagement that would otherwise require significantly more attention. Journeys also allow us to find new ways to engage customers that may have required too many resources without them.
  • Creating dynamic customer lists
  • Providing an easy to understand automations platform
  • Providing an easy to use email template experience
  • Building snippets can be difficult for those inexperienced with HTML
  • The new template experience doesn't show the snippets in the preview
  • Can't get heatmap analytics on snippets with multiple buttons
For a large business with multiple senders, Iterable is incredibly well suited for drafting and sending email blasts. Iterable is also well suited to any business that has regular customer engagement intervals, like factory recommended maintenance. Iterable can be used to implement Journeys that consistently follow up with customers at the appropriate time.

Iterable would be less appropriate for a smaller business with less specific reasons to follow up with customers aside from new products or promotions.

At Comparis, we migrated off our legacy ESP over to Iterable a year and a half back. The three main goals that Iteable helped us achieve were:
  1. It allowed our marketers to gain full control of their emails.
  2. It allowed Comparis to deliver personalization at scale.
  3. Have great sparing partners at Iterable to bounce our ideas with.
  • The best support that I have ever encountered with any product that I consumed in the past.
  • Takes customer feedback very seriously and acts upon them.
  • Fantastic deliverability team who helps us stay on track with our reputation
  • Iterable has some 3rd party partners over which they do not have a lot of control of (e.g. Drag & Drop interface). If consumers have issues with these, its very hard to get traction in the corresponding 3rd parties prioritization process.
  • Iterable user profile data fields are as good as written in stone. If you create a data field by mistake, there's no way, as of now, to delete it. This ends up with a lot of junk data in user profiles.
Iterable is great for small to medium sized companies that has a relatively decent sized email sendouts and do not necessarily have an operations team dedicated for sending out emails. Simple emails/workflows could be built leveraging drag and drop interface. Certain complex emails that use handlebars could also be built with minimum HTML skills.

They have a good set of integrations with 3rd parties that provide a diverse range of services - Customer Data Platforms, Email Validations, Template Management, etc.

For very complex emails, Iterable by itself, may not be very suitable as the "out of the box" HTML Editor is quite rough.

Super useful for segmentation, personalisation and reporting for our marketing emails. We have been using Iterable for 1.5 years now and we are quite happy with it, we love to see the platform evolves and take our feedback for improving all its capabilities. Moreover, Iterable employees are always very kind, available and easily reachable.
  • Segmentation
  • Automation
  • Customer Service
  • Email editor
  • Reporting
  • Documentation
For large database companies that want to create automation journeys, to move away from monolith type of email service providers to something more flexible, and agile.

It's also very important for us the fact that Iterable has offices in Europe with staff that can support us at every hour of the day, not solely in the afternoon.

Iterable is a great email tool, one of the more modern and flexible tools I've used. I've used Marketo, SFMC, Responsys, and HubSpot. Iterable is my favorite. It has a lot of features that provide options in workflows and segmentation. The UI and template generator is also excellent and meets our needs.
  • Segmentation is robust and easy
  • Workflows provide easy logic paths
  • Email Template tool is robust
  • Reporting can improve, it's limited at the moment
  • Experimentation is slightly clunky
Iterable is great for a mature company that requires a lot of functionality and flexibility. It maybe too much for a small business just starting out.

Iterable help us to - Create, manage, preview and deploy marketing campaigns - Target accurately users whom we want to send messages (email, SMS, etc.) - Easily create audiences and sync user data from our Customer Data Platform - Compose messages using data created by our own applications, like a Catalog of products and keep them sync without much effort - Send some transactional emails.
  • Replicate user data from a Customer Data Platform.
  • Query for specific user attributes for targeting.
  • Building flows for campaigns.
  • Monitor sent emails per recipient. We had to build something using their API.
  • Sending transactional emails could be a good use case to centralize everything.
  • Flutter support for push notifications.
Iterable can be helpful for: - Migrating from multiple tools sending marketing emails into a single one - Providing to end users a single point for managing their subscription preferences - Compose messages using data from your systems and deploying them using different channels - Integrating with a CDP.

Iterable is currently being used by the majority of the business and we will be transitioning everything to run from Iterable. Iterable provides us workflows that we can configure to make sure that we send the correct message to the correct customer at the right time.
  • System and Workflow webhooks
  • Multi-language emails
  • 360 degree view of the customer in a single page
  • Ease of drilling down on event data
  • Segmentation
  • Workflow webhooks have limited customization and data options
  • Custom events are great for segmentation and workflow triggers, but unusable to personalize an email based on past custom events.
  • No rate limiting on webhooks. Easy to bring down a third party vendor if processing a list.
Iterable isn't great for handling ecommerce companies based on how you can utilize their custom events and no ability to track events for anonymous users. If you have an advanced email program that is data driven, Iterable probably isn't the best tool for you. They are an affordable vendor, but that comes at the cost of truly personalized 1:1 emails.

If you have a rather basic email program where you send emails in batch or trigger based, you should be able to get by.

We use Iterable to communicate with our customers via marketing messages, transactional messages, and SMS. We find the flexibility to implement the solution that fits the needs of the message, personalization, or multi-step workflow is much greater with Iterable than with our previous email platform.
  • Iterable's customer support, both through the account manager and their live chat and email responses, is great.
  • The flexibility with third-party integrations made getting our project off the ground fairly simple.
  • The handlebar logic that can be used within the templates was much easier to understand than on some other platforms.
  • The SMS integration with Twilio is confusing at times, and without direct access to an SMS management interface is limiting.
Whether Iterable is well suited for another company is not an easy question to answer. Iterable is a powerful tool for the right company. It may be overkill for a small company with not many customer contacts, but the value is something each company would need to determine. For companies that are looking to get into personalization, orchestrated campaigns that build off of learned customer traits, and integration with established toolsets within their companies, Iterable is definitely worth a deeper dive when evaluating email platforms.

We use Iterable for all of our member acquisition campaigns. Iterable allows us to create robust campaigns that are responsive to our members' behavior.
  • Simple user interface
  • Powerful campaign logic
  • Seamless multi-channel platform
  • There tends to be frequent errors with the platform. I'd love for those not to occur as often because that worries me when I have multiple campaigns running at any given time.
Iterable is well suited if you need a platform with robust campaign logic with a simple user interface and you are implementing (or working to implement) multi-channel campaigns.
