My team and I code out our emails and use custom design. We mainly use Litmus as part of our QA process. We use a QA checklist in our campaigns and always check rendering.
  • Render
  • Customer Service
  • Ease of use
  • Tracking pixels
  • I cannot troubleshoot within Litmus because our code gets "warped" as it's sent over.
Our team basically uses Litmus for QA purposes as mentioned earlier. We mostly check our renderings, but our ESP (Iterable) also has this functionality. It would be great to see a deeper insight into analytics as well and more information on deliverability.

It is hard to code an email within Litmus because we use a lot of Iterable hosted snippets within our code.

Litmus is currently utilised in my role for testing email rendering across devices and email clients and identifying potential faults in the build. We also use Litmus to track engagement metrics (particularly open rate by email client and opens potentially impacted by email client privacy settings). Litmus provides a more accessible interface for viewing these metrics than our other email marketing platform.
  • Previews of email rendering across devices and email clients
  • Easy implementation of tracking codes and an accessible interface for viewing engagement metrics
  • Intuitive email builder functionality
  • Greater support for interactive engagement reports on a per email basis - it would be great if it wasn't required to generate a new tracking code per email, or download CSV files to see this breakdown.
Litmus has proven incredibly useful for identifying potential build faults in our emails that affect how they render across email clients. The Litmus blog provides insightful and straightforward information about maximising email deliverability and ensuring content is seen as it was intended, and has also proven useful in guiding troubleshooting and ongoing implementation of email best practice.

We mainly use it for email template's cross platform and browsers testing. Litmus helps us in rectifying the issues that our clients face on different browsers for their end customers. My team mainly create different custom HTML templates for our client teams on their request and we test it on Litmus and we share direct previews with them to get their approval.
  • Multiple Device Previews
  • Cross Browser Testing Availability
  • Supported Dark Mode for Most of the Browsers
  • UI can definitely be improved, I personally liked the old one
  • Also, it can add autosave feature as we have to hit save after each edit in the code
  • Selecting a previews takes a long time to load
It's best of testing the HTML pages and the Email template support on different browsers and devices. One of the best tool I have ever seen, I encourage my friends and colleagues to use Litmus for their overall support testing to ensure the quality of the deliverables for our end clients.

We use Litmus to test email newsletters for one of our product branches, and it brings a lot of value because it reduces testing time many times over. We use Litmus to test email newsletters for one of our product branches, and it brings a lot of value because it reduces testing time many times over. In fact, most of the staff in our branch uses macOS, so it's extremely difficult to imagine how the testing processes would go. And avoiding testing on phones also really speeds up the processes. Also, cool that you can give a link to a manager for re-testing and he can check for himself all the versions he needs in a couple of minutes.
  • Multiplatform testing.
  • Identifying accessibility issues.
  • General code testing.
  • speed of operation, it would be possible to give the opportunity to interact while testing is done in the background.
  • UX, I think there is still room for development.
  • Front-end technology, which would accelerate the speed of further development. And could probably add acceleration capabilities if implemented correctly.
It's pretty hard to specify this, as it's great in any testing of emails, any email newsletters. Of course, the more complex the email, the better it is to test it through Litmus because there are more possible problems. But in general, it can probably help you test any email.

We are using litmus email previews through API and through their product interface as well. Our platform or product is to design and maintain the communication templates. In our studio we are currently supporting multiple channels including Email. Designers/users can create a new templates and design their emails by dragging and dropping the pre built components. Studio is a no code way of generating email templates. So users need to check their email previews in actual clients or devices. This is where Litmus plays a crucial role for our communications, emails. So earlier our platform or studio users use to get the generated emails final HTML and copy that HTML into Litmus interface and generate all the necessary previews to validate and test the emails. But now our platform or studio is integrated with the Litmus APIs. Litmus previews are part of our email design workflows. Designers first design their emails by dragging and dropping the email components, providing dynamic payloads along with in built rules engine. Then they generate a client side preview within platform or studio, once the preview is generated user can generate Litmus previews by selecting all the clients configured in studio, they can select as many they want. Once submitted for Litmus preview, our integration with litmus APIs takes over and generates unique previews for all the selected clients and renders all the images in our studio.
  • Provides latest models for preview, we have compared similar products in the market, litmus was first to provide newer models and OS support in their clients list
  • APIs for integration with own products
  • User interface and documentation
  • API documentation can be improved
  • Routing at API documentation is broken, still not fixed
  • Price per preview can be reduced futher

We use Litmus in various ways. The most common business value is within the Previews and QA section where we can see how our emails render across various devices, clients, browsers, and versions within each. Litmus provides this view in a single dashboard with the ability to zoom into each rendering. Litmus also provides insights into the functionality of each link (and what might be broken). Also available is feedback on the subject line, from name, reply to, and preview text. There are also insights on accessibility and suggestions for where those can be improved. Along with this are visual impairment filters which provide renderings on how the email appears for readers with various sight impairments. Litmus also provides what the email looks like if images are turned off along with the text-only version. Two other key areas of feedback are load time and spam testing.

Although not as frequent, we do sometimes have a need to quickly build new emails and analyze how they render, and for this we use the Builder functionality within Litmus. Our CRM platform fills this need most of the time, but using Builder is a way to quickly pull an email together and then copy/paste the code into our CRM platform.

Finally, another key area of value for our team is via the Litmus Analyze functionality. Although there is a little bit of setup involved, these analytics allow key insights into our email audience including the proportion using different email clients, browsers, devices; a generalized view of engagement (read time, skimms, etc.), and the proportion of the audience impacted by Apple MPP. What this analysis does not provide however is with identifying which specific audience members fall into that MPP bucket, which would allow us to segment email engagement reporting more precisely.
  • Extent of email renderings
  • Analysis of audience composition by device, browser, etc. and engagement
  • Blog articles and help documentation
  • Spam and link analysis
  • More CRM platform integrations, esp. for Builder HTML and analytics
Litmus is a great multi-purpose tool for building, testing, and analyzing emails and audiences. This is especially the case when using an email platform with limited functionality.

For businesses with enterprise email platforms and those with integrated rendering engines, Litmus acts more like a second check but may not be worth the investment depending on added cost.

Litmus is a great one-stop shop for reviewing our eDMs. Being able to preview email clients, collect feedback and maintain an audit trail all in one platform makes the process of building emails very seamless.
  • Easy to collaborate with team members and stakeholders for review
  • Proof feature is easy to navigate
  • Email previews are compehensive with a wide selection of clients
  • It would be good to control/consolidate notifications that are received when reviewers leave feedback in the proof. At the moment, I get one email per comment which can often spam my inbox at any one time. It's also not necessary because I typically view the comments in context rather than via email. But knowing when rhe reviewer is done reviewing a version would be useful.
  • At the moment, the shareable links to the Email Clients and the Proof are separate. Generally a reviewer would view both, so I would prefer if the links were consolidated into one and give access to both tabs.
  • Analytics - some of the info isn't clear, such as what Webmail is and why it's separates from mobile/desktop. When looking at the stats on Email Clients, there are also double ups on clients and it's not easy to understand what these are - is one for Web version vs Desktop? Also, is there an opportunity to get dark mode stats for all clients, not just Apple?
Litmus is especially useful for enabling the review process via its Email Previews and Proof features which are very easy to share with stakeholders

I think the Builder feature isn't as essential, as most companies will use a third party marketing automation tool to build their emails.

We use it for quality control, checking our email designs across platforms, basic analytics to get a picture of our audiences, and following Litmus for best practices in general.
  • Industry expert in email marketing education/webinars
  • Tools to QA emails
  • Insights into general audience facts
  • Easy to use
  • Renderings not always perfectly reflecting real rendering environments
  • More transparency around cost to upgrade from basic to enterprise
  • Make it easier to see what % of our monthly usage we've used up
Great for organizations that send a lot of emails to a diverse audience, but can be very expensive if you do not have a high volume of emails to QA. Really helpful to see all the different renderings across ESPs.

We use Litmus to QA emails and provide supportive analytics to clients. Since we are an agency, we'll QA emails to see how emails are rendering for different email clients, find out which email clients are most popular in their database, and other data that can help with support with telling the story about what's happening with a program.
  • Emulation of 100s of email clients by pasting HTML email code into their builder
  • The UI for navigating the build tools, analytics, and other functions are intuitive and easy to learn.
  • They have amazing weekly newsletters that go deep into email trends, benchmarks, and very practical tips. They are well-written.
  • Litmus analytics is great, but measures a different from Google Analytics or in-platform measurements. This makes it hard to trust various data sources.
  • Eloqua integration for analytics is not as good as the platforms - still easy to use though, but it's not as robust as other platforms using out-of-the-box metrics
  • It would be great to add time spent on email in bigger increments for long form emails
Litmus is great for QAing emails and their emulators are invaluable. I don't know of any email marketing platforms that do this, so having Litmus in your marketing stack is a must. It's the closest thing to seeing how your subscribers see your email. Aside from this, their email builder is pretty good. I'm not a professional coder, but know enough to customize emails, so there very well could be better editors. Their analytics tools are easy to use, but has been hard to validate by cross-referencing other data sources. It is not an email automation tool in itself, so it is not a substitute for an email platforms like MailChimp, Hubspot, Marketo, etc. It's more like a platform's partner.

We use Litmus for testing emails, both during building the HTML and sending with data from CRMs. The main thing we are testing for is flawless rendering across all relevant email clients.
  • Offers a large number of email clients
  • Is reliable with uptime
  • The platform is very easy to use
  • When viewing email previews, the order of the preview thumbnails displayed on the screen is not the same as the order if you are using the arrows to cycle through the previews. Unless this has been fixed very recently. This can get very confusing.
Litmus is especially good with the email "Build" feature and being able to share previews of the build. It also is very thorough with the number of email clients/platforms available.

In my job, we have a lot of big clients we work with, and we create surveys for all of them using HTML code. We use litmus to test HTML Email templates and to see how these codes render in all different email platforms in a very easy way (for example: Outlook, Gmail, etc.)
  • Facilitate the work of comparing emails on different platforms.
  • Facilitate finding errors in your code in case they exist.
  • Provide such a friendly and easy-to-use platform.
  • Indicate to users all the functions of the platform in a simpler way since not everyone takes full advantage of it.
Well suited: When we need to test HTML code, and we need to save time in comparing different email platforms and how the HTML renders in all of them (This is to see if the code is working as expected in all of them). Less appropriate: Once, I was trying to share something with my team, and I didn't know that litmus had the option to share the project I was working on with my teammates. So Litmus should share all its functions with its users or be more clear about what this platform is capable of.

  • Analytics. I personally like the Engagement function.
  • It gives our reviewers an easy way to review the email, and leave comments.
  • The previews could be more accurate in some email clients and devices.

I have been using Litmus for 6 years now. In my previous company, I used it for 5 years for building and designing emails. At my current company, we use Litmus for previews only to see how an email previews on. Various clients due to our current ESP being not able to provide that feature. The Litmus interface is brilliant. And the marketing emails and newsletters they send are very interesting and quirky. The events and webinars they organize, including Litmus Live Conferences, are a great source of knowledge and learning. The blogs and articles they have online and very useful too. Love Litmus (oops! an alliteration. pun intended!)

I primarily use Litmus for the "Previews & QA" feature. I work on a very small team, and we don't have the bandwidth to test across a bunch of clients etc. so the simulation/preview feature is super helpful. I also rely on "Previews & QA" to gut check other elements, like our links, alt text, image size, and spam flags. Occasionally, I'll tag emails for analytics as well, but again we're a small team moving quickly so we don't typically have the bandwidth to dive so deep into our analytics. The only reason I don't rate Litmus higher is that I know I'm not using it to its fullest, so I don't quite get our money's worth (mostly an "us" problem, but if there was more variation in plans or an a la carte option, we could pay just for what we need/use). That said, I also love the content that Litmus puts out!
  • Experts in the field
  • User friendly tools
  • Fun, engaging brand
  • Expensive
  • Previews/simulations don't always accurately reflect real life
  • Can be overwhelming
  • Some documentation on how the tools work isn't 1000% clear
I really rely on Litmus and have a lot of respect for the brand and the tools, but they are expensive for a small organization to use. If there was more variation in the plans or an "a la carte" option, that would be amazing.

Litmus is currently used to test view EDM communications that is sent out by our company.
This is very important as we need to ensure that our EDM's suit each email provider that our customers use.
Litmus also integrates into Salesforce Marketing Cloud which is what we use to generate our EDM's allowing for us to view the appearance of our emails without leaving SFMC.

We use Litmus in our organization to do email proofs with our teams and across other teams. Litmus allows us to leave feedback for one another and share various emails with many people in the organization. It is genuinely a great tool to share out our weekly emails and then larger campaign emails. The specific problem the product addresses would be allowing us to find a better way to leave feedback for emails and also see how the email can look across several platforms (email/phone).
  • Proofs
  • Previews Q&A
  • Organization (Creating different folders for email)
  • Shareability (being able to share the email/email campaigns with others)
  • Sometimes I won't always receive feedback (comments/approval) emails
  • There have been moments were it has been difficult to leave comments
  • Sometimes it can be difficult to look through the folders b/c everything begins to open up - it is nice to just have the section I am looking for open up rather than the entire year b/c then I am closing all of those sections in the folders
Litmus is well suited for anyone working within CRM. It is vital to be able to review your emails with your team and the larger organization as email is a crucial part of marketing. After working within Litmus, I can definitely say I appreciate being able to receive feedback via email but also leave comments for other colleagues - it allows us to work together and move forward in a smooth fashion. I believe Litmus is less appropriate if you are not working within CRM.

Litmus helps us to address the following business problems:
  • Enable us to conduct thorough testing of emails through previews & QA to ensure that design elements are rendering correctly across email clients, our emails are accessible, and that links are working.
  • Enable us to have deeper understanding of email recipient behaviour and engagement with content through analytics. The ability to provide accurate reporting on reliable opens, engagement and read time, as well as dark mode usage has helped provide a benchmark for our communications. It has also helped us to compare performance across our emails to identify which elements resonate with recipients most.
  • Previews & QA helps us to test rendering of emails across different clients and devices
  • Analytics provides detailed breakdown of reliable opens as well as engagement/ read time
  • Litmus insights helps us to stay on top of email trends and best practices
  • Tracking functionality not being able to differentiate between test and live emails for analytics
  • Litmus training/ seminars are live events and not suitable for overseas clients. Ideally there would be a mixture of on demand webinars as well as live training sessions.
  • Would help if litmus provided detailed benchmarks on industry average analytics eg based off all their clients in certain industries what trends are we seeing on read time/ email clients
Litmus has helped us as an organisation to ensure that the emails we send out to recipients are effective through advanced insights/ analytics and rendering the way we want it to across email clients and devices through testing. Without a dedicated email designer who knows how to use litmus, we are limited in the way we interact with litmus. We understand there's lots of other great features on litmus that we aren't using so it would help if there was more training on how to make the most of litmus for beginners through to advanced users.
