Eloqua is the main marketing automation platform I have used. I have done thorough evaluations of other platforms/competitors but the value of Eloqua over the competitors was clear. The only other tools I have used were individuals platforms that only do small pieces of what Eloqua and often not nearly as good. It would be hard to compare it directly to the main competitors like Pardot or Marketo due to my personal lack of hands on experience with those platforms but taking a deep look into all of the features will allow you to see the value that Eloqua has to offer.

Each product has its specific functionalities it is particularly good at. Marketo and HubSpot have different target groups as clients, they target SME's. Oracle Eloqua and Oracle Responsys have a higher monthly fee but can also offer more than the other competitors and target large companies. It all depends on the functionality you are looking for, size of your company and the amount of contacts you are targeting.

With Eloqua you have virtually no limitations on contact count, the program works as good with 10k contact as it does with 1million or above. HubSpot is interesting for the small businesses that are ready to start with Marketing Automation but are not ready yet for a full scale solution such as Eloqua.

My company decided to choose Oracle Eloqua because it was the most robust marketing program that we evaluated. We were also impressed with its marketing automation capabilities, and how easy it is to run analytics on your marketing campaigns.

Over 2 months we piloted campaigns in both Marketo and Eloqua with 2 teams, Ops and marketers and found Eloqua to be more intuitive for the marketing teams and gave the Ops team more options for development and customisation.

It would be close to a tie between Marketo & Eloqua but the best of the group right now is HubSpot. While HubSpot came from an SMB background, their pace of innovation and releases has allowed them to catch up and surpass the other MAP's vendors in many areas. Pardot was promising but has a terrible form strategy and seems lost after its two back to back acquisitions (ExactTarget, then Salesforce.com).

I use all of these in some measurement for our clients, but Eloqua is in my eyes the better option for corporate and enterprise level businesses. Its many features, flexibility and constant stream of updates make it the futureproof answer to any marketing challenge in my eyes. That said, I think smaller businesses will benefit more from platforms like Act-On or Hubspot. While these platforms may have less flexibility in their options, they are easier to get started with.

I have used the following marketing automation systems: Marketo and Pardot. I think that Pardot places a distant third compared to Marketo and Eloqua. But I do believe Eloqua squeaks through to the top position when compared to Marketo. I really like how I can visually see automated campaign flows in Eloqua. That is a huge plus. In Marketo it is not possible as the product is built in a more linear fashion. However, the data processing programs are easier to work with in Marketo. Their email editors are on par with each other. I do think the sales person alerts are a little bit better in Marketo.

Oracle Eloqua is a more robust program than the other options that we considered and we are able to get much more out of the program as a company than we would have been able to from other products. The marketing, product, sales, and customer service departments utilize the program for various needs or tasks.

We've had several acquisitions of smaller companies that use Marketo. While it's very similar to Eloqua, my colleagues using Marketo noted that Eloqua's list segmentation (list building within the database) is much easier to do and more sophisticated than Marketo. Also, the campaign canvas in Eloqua is an easier way to lay-out multi-step campaigns and make them engagement-based than Marketo. And, it's easier to understand how one campaign connects in to subsequent campaigns in Eloqua than it is in Marketo since the campaigns canvas and steps someone goes through is more visual in Eloqua than Marketo.

I've looked at Marketo and HubSpot. Marketo is a great platform, but not as robust and doesn't allow for easy integration of many different technologies. HubSpot is a great platform with easy to use UIs, but not quite an enterprise ready platform.

Everything is contingent on where you want to go with your automation strategy. Eloqua is the industry standard for a reason--they've been in the marketing automation space significantly longer than their closest competitor and do provide the best suite of tools to support it.

Due to some issues (downtime, being on E9, feature availability, customer support) we ultimately decided to go with Marketo. When we were first looking for automation (2009) we decided on Eloqua over Marketo because we were worried about Marketo's ability to scale with us. At that point Marketo was very new to the market still and only had a few large clients. When we went through the evaluation this past fall, we were looking at ease of use. Our experience with Eloqua (E9) was that it was difficult to use so marketing operations ALWAYS had to run the programs. We wanted to empower the product marketing teams to handle more of their own programs with support and approval from marketing operations. We just thought Marketo would be better for us overall.

Eloqua is a more robust and powerful marketing automation platform when compared to Marketo. There are more process that can be automated in Eloqua that you're not able to in Marketo. And Eloqua takes a leadership role over Marketo in this space. And the technical support offered by Eloqua is superior to the Marketo technical support.
