ActiveCampaign is a very good web marketing tool for CRM and for automation marketing to send emails to several people at once. Contact management is simple and the creation of an email campaign is within reach for everyone. However, the software remains quite expensive I find.

ActiveCampaign is useful for improving the customer experience and for customer follow-up, but also for being present throughout the sales process and allowing the company to develop new prospects and leads through this software. ActiveCampaign also allows you to create landing pages to promote a service or a particular product.

I started to use ActiveCampaign as a lower-cost alternative to Infusionsoft (Keap). With a relatively broad scope of practice (Brain Health Coaching in 4 different niches - Weight Loss, Parenting, Business and Mental Health), I needed a way to tag my clients and sort them into different campaigns and automation as well as assign them to different deals depending on their interests and activity scores. ActiveCampaign has given me this ability for a very reasonable rate, and also has some easy-to use landing page options and product options. It works well with my websites and the email deliverability is great.
  • Tagging customers dependent on engagement and interests
  • Sending automations and email campaigns
  • Pulling it all together in one software
  • Having good training and support options
  • making it easier to navigate
  • making the site faster to load
  • making it easier to just send a quick email to a list...
  • making the support options more accessible and intuitive
For a serious business working in more than one area of business - or wanting to be able to sort customers based on behavior Not so much for a start-up coach that wants to get experience with emailing clients

We use ActiveCampaign in a variety of ways, from campaigns to automations as well as the site and forms. We use the program on an everyday basis and build out campaigns and automations often. The problem the ActiveCampaign addresses is to contact continuously with our contacts. It helps us to soft sell our product and brings news and information to our customers at different times.
  • Increasing ability in automations
  • Ease of use of campaigns
  • Sites are easy to put together
  • Themes can be improved
ActiveCampaign can be used by a variety of people in different industries. It's great for anyone who wants to connect with any consumer, prospect, or leads.

We decided to swap from another Email Marketing platform to ActiveCampaign in order to get more tools to track our Email Marketing activity and always improve it to give our prospects and clients the right information at the right time during their buying journey. We were looking for a solution to be easily implemented with our CRM software (Salesforce), and with ActiveCampaign we found the right tool.
  • Scoring Point.
  • Automation linked to the actions made by customers and prospects.
  • Salesforce Integration.
  • Implementation with the Email Template Design Software.
  • User Experience Design.
  • Bulk Tag of contacts.
  • Reports dashboard.
ActiveCampaign is well suited in a company like ours that want to bring Email Marketing to our clients and prospect to a more structured level - than the simple newsletter - integrating the process with software already adopted by the company (as CRM Salesforce). Also, the pricing played an important role in the choosing of this platform, compared with other solutions.

We use ActiveCampaign as a CRM, it's segmentations to send the right information to each subscriber. We use automation when new users subscribe and in our launches. And we use the campaigns to send newsletters regularly.

ActiveCampaign is a great email marketing and automation tool but it's not the cheapest. It's great for projects who strongly bet on this kind of feature as marketing communications. If you only want to send a newsletter every now and then, you probably won't profit from all its possibilities.

I use ActiveCampaign to integrate my customers' sales and communication channels, and as a layer to CRM, mainly in the further integration with emails. The ActiveCampaign tool has one counter itself to be able to meet the demand of my corporate clients without any problems. Either from the built-in tools or through API integrations.
  • Flexible
  • Easy to Automate
  • Corporate Capacity
  • Interface
  • Speed
  • Documentation
From small businesses to large corporations, Active Campaign for me is a tool that integrates three pillars for a good email marketing campaign: 1. Powerful segmentation 2. Ease of creating automation 3. Ability to manage leads in PipelinesAny company that is thinking of developing its communication skills in the email channel will definitely benefit from this tool. The interface could definitely be more polished, and it takes time to get used to it, but I've been using it for years without a problem. I recommend it.

ActiveCampaign is a pretty powerful system all in all but definitely requires that the user has some level of understanding how to use a CRM and light programming background. I have setup ActiveCampaign for a few of my clients over the years and there is a bit of a learning curve. It took several attempts to understand why certain were not working. The tutorials were lacking and made assumptions as to how people understand how to create various campaigns and workflows sequences. I would say it was nice that it had various templates for welcome sequences or follow up or abandoned cart. Also, in terms of cost it is better than Hubspot, more powerful in terms of the ability to embed code or add more functionality but all of that powerful comes at the cost of the users understanding of the platform. I would recommend ActiveCampaign to immediate to advanced users who really want to have the ability to create integrations with other software programs or systems - like tracking leads through Google Ads or some other advanced techniques.
  • Power programming tools
  • Integration tools
  • Various workflows templates
  • Creative email ideas
  • Poor tech support
  • Outdated tutorials
ActiveCampaign is best for experienced marketers or those who have an understanding of programming. If you have used workflows or used other programs like Constant Contact using ActiveCampaign will be a delight in terms of more robust tools and functionality. If you’re also trying to capture lost sales abandoned carts - using some of their technology can help identify any leaks in your sales funnel.

The main goal for our company is to increase our customer base. We use ActiveCampaign mainly to create email campaigns to introduce current customers to new products and warm leads to our company's portfolio. The great thing about ActiveCampaign is that it is very easy to track how many people opened the mailings, replied, and clicked on links. Also, it is very easy to perform an A/B test on each campaign. Besides, ActiveCampaign makes it easy to generate a good-looking email and landing page by providing various templates. One of the things that could however be improved is the integration with Salesforce. Currently, we are able to sync contacts between the two platforms but only to a limited extent. It would be great to be able to track SF emails with the same metrics we have for AC. Besides, it would be helpful if when we delete contacts in AC, they are deleted in SF automatically as well.
  • ActiveCampaign provides various templates to create a professional-looking email
  • ActiveCampaign makes it easy to create your own landing page
  • Clear overview of metrics for each email campaign
  • Deal overview gives a good impression of the sales funnels
  • Integration with Salesforce > automatically delete contacts in SF if they get deleted in AC
  • Offer an opportunity to resize images
  • Increase the "delete contacts limit" so that the contact list can be adjusted at all times
ActiveCampaign is perfect for creating email automations to inform current customers and track how many people open the emails and click links. However, ActiveCampaign is not appropriate to generate more leads or contact businesses from a database since contacts need to be opted-in before you can send an email through ActiveCampaign.

I use ActiveCampaign for email management, as a CRM and for lead generation through free tools that I offer via email campaigns and landing pages. Being a solopreneur and creator of an independent brand, it is extremely important that I have a touchpoint for my clients, leads, and referrals outside of social media. With ever-changing algorithms and moving targets, ActiveCampaign allows me to reach my audience without being reliant on Instagram or Facebook. The integration with Zapier makes my business logistics nearly seamless and customer support is always willing to help me with any integration issues.
  • Contact Management (tags, lists, merges)
  • Automated Campaigns
  • Zapier Integration
  • Sales Funnels
  • Campaign Creation
  • Templates
  • Template Functionality
  • Template & Email Formatting
  • One-Off Emails
I would recommend ActiveCampaign to anyone who describes themselves as 'tech-savvy.' It is well suited for anyone who is wanting a robust system and is willing to figure out how to create a process that works for them (versus having the process already built). It can take some time to figure out the integrations, so it would be helpful for anyone who has a tech background or someone to help them navigate. ActiveCampaign is not good for someone who wants simple, already designed template without add-ons.

For Marketing Automations, Database segmentation, integration with our current CRM (we do not use the CRM or pipeline functions in Active Campaign)
  • Automations are logical, easy to understand, and build
  • Tagging is very easy
  • Importing data and data clean up is simple
  • Segmentation is not easy to work with
  • Reports are too basic, not easy to craft meaningful reports
  • Campaigns (basically emails) need expanded functionality, or just remove them and force them to be used in automations (even if just simple)
  • Your new interface for email templates is clunky, and does not accommodate migration from older templates that have been crafted
  • Your knowledge center is difficult to navigate and often hard to work with (separate platform with login). Consider a portal format as an upgrade path
Less: When legacy CRMs are in place with the org, your API's are less than robust, and Zapier is complicated to use as an alternative. More: Easy to train, visual learning solid, works for scaling operations.

I scale my self using this tool like creating accountability emails for clients or a followup sequence for folks who come to my LinkedIn booth at a live tradeshow. I can direct my audience to ongoing information without endless admin on my part. It also allows me to have a almost perpetual email marketing system that I can set and forget. It allows me to keep in touch at scale with my network and potential leads. <br><br>On a lighter note, I use it to send my friend automatic emails to inspire her on her journey to find love.
  • Linking automations together
  • Having access to a secondary login for my assistant
  • Forms that trigger stuff for me with ease
  • Lead scoring lets me see who is excited about me
  • They cut down customer success without warning and then also increased the tax fees that I was never charged before. They didnt do a good job explaining this.
  • Its slow in my browser which feels like somethin that should have been fixed ages ago.
  • I wish they were more transparent abou the free 30 min calls I used to get. It seems like they changed a lot in the last year
  • for an email automation company, they have added me to automations that were not correct like new user ones. Or I got prospecting ones when i was already paying.
I think I should have started with a lower cost tool when I started. I dont think this should be the first option for a smaller biz. I have no regrets bc I would have much preferred to stay on the same platform with all the options AC provides. I think it the most robust for what it does so if that is worth the sacrifice or ease of use, then they should go for it.

I partnered up with another online marketer to sell his course online in January 2017. He recently switched from AWeber to ActiveCampaign. The difference was like comparing a base line economy vehicle to a top or the line luxury SUV with all the bells and whistles. ActiveCampaign was easy to learn with a basic knowledge of previous email services such as AWeber and MailChimp. Between the two of us we were able to set up automated drip campaigns and tag people with how they took action. We were using ads and webinars to sell the course and ActiveCampaign handled everything we neeeded including all the integrations with other services. It was very intuitive to use and set up lists, forms and tags.
  • It can automatically trigger sequences based on the actions of the contacts. If they click a link they can then trigger a different drip campaign. Or vise versa.
  • It was really easy to create the emails with the editor
  • The data reporting made sense and was a great way to get a quick glance of how things were going.
  • As of January 2017... There were a few integrations that were not there that Infusionsoft had but ActiveCampaign didn't . One of those was SendOutCards. We had wanted a trigger to send people who purchased a physical card in the mail thanking them for their purchase. We had to manually input each sale since there was not an integration. (There may have been a way to do it, we just couldn't figure it out in time)
  • They charge based on number of contacts in your list. At the time we were working with a list around 30k. The tiers go from 500, 1000, 2500, 5000, 10k, 25k, 50k etc. So it got a little pricey per month to get the features we wanted. But we found it to be worth it with the number of sales that came in.
  • Again as of January 2017 - the backend interface or User Experience could be a bit nicer. It definitely looked like it was designed by engineers, not UX people.
For the person who is looking to set up a bunch of automations this is your answer.

For the person who has a tiny list less then a couple hundred, I would recommend something like MailChimp to get started.

ActiveCampaign is definitely for people who have a bit more experience in the field of email marketing.

ActiveCampaign is the core of my business. It's used to store customer/prospect data, email customers and prospects, track website behavior, and provide analytics. It addresses the problem of wanting the power of modern marketing automation, but not wanting to pay thousands of dollars per month.
  • Ease-of-use. Marketing automation has never been this easy. You don't need a marketing tech background to build elaborate automations in this tool. Everything is intuitive.
  • The automation builder is flat out incredible. For an inexpensive solution, I'm blown away by the automation capabilities of ActiveCampaign. It blows many of the more expensive solutions like Pardot out of the universe. Not quite on a Marketo level, but ballpark.
  • Affordable. The thing I love about ActiveCampaign is that it's inexpensive to get started, but won't restrict growth. AC scales from start up to enterprise.
  • No landing page builder. Having to integrate a separate tool for landing pages is a complexity. On the other hand, I respect that they stick to their strengths.
  • The reporting is hit or miss. Some of the reporting (example: email open, click through, etc, analytics) is exceptional. Some, like connecting form fill outs to emails and automations isn't quite as clean as I would like. It's workable.
  • I wish the user interface of the CRM was configurable. Being able to create my own contact layout would be nice.
If you're looking for affordable, easy-to-use marketing automation, it's hard to beat ActiveCampaign. One of the very best solutions if you're not flush with cash and able to drop 80K on Marketo. If you're a complex organization with cash, you may want to look towards a Marketo or Hubspot, as they certainly have more functionality. With that said, most marketing departments buy more than they need.

I use ActiveCampaign to handle email marketing for my small online business. I use it to collect leads, warm them up with automation, and then sell products and services. I use it for both automated and broadcast emails for all communication with my list, with several automated series going simultaneously at any given time.
  • Email automation
  • Lead generation
  • Communicating effectively with different parts of your list
  • Lists vs. tags can be somewhat confusing -- I feel it could be all tags
  • UX is a slow and sometimes confusing
  • Snippets are difficult to use
It's very well suited for what I use it for: handling email automation for a small business. They have more robust marketing automation tools for larger businesses, but I don't use them so couldn't comment effectively. Ultimately, I feel like it's the most flexible, best bang for the buck email solution that's out there.

We use ActiveCampaign for email marketing, delivering content to our database, and creating lead funnels automation. It allows us to educate our leads, our clients and deliver value in a simple and consistent manner.
  • Simple to use
  • Good value for the price
  • Automation sequences
  • Lead scoring
  • Cannot capture the overall structure of an automation sequence. Would be nice to capture the whole automation sequence as an image file or PDF file to go back to when I want to make amendments.
  • Sometimes the platform is a bit slow to respond.
  • Have more examples of automation sequences of aces studies on how to use automation features with real-life examples of sequence and details of how each step functions. That would help build better automation sequences.
It does the job and it's cost-effective and has a simple user interface compared to other competitors.

ActiveCampaign (AC) is the lifeblood of my email flight deal alert company, Flights Machine. We are in AC everyday, since our subscribers rely on our emails as the main way they get notified about our flight deals. The campaign builder in AC is nice, but where it stands out over other offerings such as MailChimp (our former email tool) is in its automation builder. They have a strong API to tag users based on arbitrarily complex business logic in your codebase, with an easy to use automation builder than can be triggered when tags get added to a user.
  • Automations (based on tagging a user from your codebase via their API, start sending that user an email sequence)
  • Campaign Builder (as good as other tools such as MailChimp)
  • Pricing (pay per contact, not per email sent. AND email addresses can be added to multiple lists and only count as 1 contact, unlike MailChimp which would consider that 2 contacts)
  • The Admin Dashboard Contacts Search tool is very limited in functionality
  • The pricing buckets are very large... It goes 10,000 to 25,000 to 50,000 ... Being more granular would help a lot for businesses just over the cusp of one of these limits
  • Provide an API to validate email addresses as valid or invalid. MailChimp does this for free when you try to add to your list, but ActiveCampaign allows adding garbage typo-ed email addresses like *@gmail.con to your list (forcing you to use a 3rd party vendor for this)
ActiveCampaign is perfect for teams that want a lightweight, easy to use email software which still has the ability to deeply integrate with your codebase/business logic (through tagging via their API and automations).

It strikes the balance nicely between allowing developers and marketers to collaborate --- simply instruct the developers to tag users appropriately in the business logic / code base, and then the marketers can use AC's automations initiated by a tag to come up with whatever complex follow-up they desire (all without bugging the developers again).

I use ActiveCampaign for sending weekly emails for my email list and automating online course delivery. I am building my email list with the help of ActiveCampaign and staying in contact with potential customers and with people who have already purchased something from me (either services or digital products, like online courses).
  • Building email automations that are sent after a purchase has been wonderful and it has been a fairly easy thing to learn how to set up these automations.
  • Being able to use filters in email automations has also been great. Sometimes I have email content that I only want to send to people who either have or have not done something previously (e.g. have purchased something or not, clicked a certain link or not). ActiveCampaign makes this easy to do.
  • I also like the ability to easily tag subscribers with additional information on opt-in forms, e.g. which lead magnet they opted in for.
  • There may be a learning curve in learning to use all the great functions of ActiveCampaign. So for a non-techy type of person it may take a bit time to familiarize with the functions.
I can't really think of examples where I would consider it to be less appropriate, especially because I think most of the businesses and solopreneurs should use email marketing, and I consider ActiveCampaign to be a great choice for that. Some scenarios where ActiveCampaign is well suited, in my opinion, are for example service providers who want a simple way to organize email leads (tagging is great) and build connection and trust with them, warm them up for the purchase decision if they aren't ready immediately. And to keep in contact with people who have shown interest in their services or products.

We use ActiveCampaign in our administration and marketing departments. ActiveCampaign handles our lead capture, with webforms that sit on our website, and lead management / nurture, by allowing us to see where our leads are in our pipeline and to communicate with them applicable to the stage that they are currently at; for example, the way we communicate to someone who is making contact for the first time and someone who has already been chatting to us multiple times is quite different (like human interaction right?). ActiveCampaign is perfect for this and takes the emotional load out of having to remember how many times we've contacted someone, it's right there in front of us and we can make notes at every step of the way. The software also handles our client management and communications, again by allowing us to see clearly how long someone has been a client and how much feedback we're getting from them. We also use it for basic marketing such as handling our email newsletters.
  • ActiveCampaign is robust against spam contacts; since we switched from Infusionsoft our spam-bot problem disappeared overnight.
  • ActiveCampaign is comparatively easy to use and set up; it's more intuitive and visual than Infusionsoft.
  • The customer support is bang on, the agents (shout out to Logan!) are really great at teaching you how to use the software and understanding how it works so that you're empowered to do it yourself.
  • A migration service from other software platforms would be great. I had to rebuild my automations from scratch which took me a long time to fit into my already hectic schedule.
ActiveCampaign is great if you're looking for a less costly alternative to Infusionsoft (no offence to Infusionsoft, it's great but definitely not priced appropriately), I feel that AC is priced appropriately to the market and is also more robust.

It seems to be better built in terms of integrity, so far we haven't bombarded by spam bots with this software, which was a problem we had with IS.

It's also just easier to use and more visual when you're building automations to handle your lead nurture, you'll save time by having your well-thought out and easy to build automation sequences to take the mental load out of remembering to send emails and follow-ups, this will do it for you and you can also include reminders for more human interactions like reminders to call a lead and what stage they are at.

I personally use Active Campaign practically every day for the construction of automatic responders, e-mail sequences and for sending the company newsletter. Active Campaign is built to be very intuitive and easy to use. Over time I have also used other systems and I must say that Active Campaign is the one that has satisfied me the most of all, also in terms of the relationship between price and product quality.
  • Active Campaign is great for managing automatic emails
  • Active Campaign is well built for tag management
  • Active Campaign does not duplicate the number of users if they are subscribed to more than one list, avoiding the increase of costs as happens with other suppliers
  • Providing the landing page function in a reduced form also in the lite plan would be an interesting plus
  • Providing the Custom audience function on Facebook also in the lite plan would be an interesting plus
  • Integrating a webinar feature could be an interesting plus
Active Campaign is so simple that it is also suitable for inexperienced users and for those approaching the world of mail marketing for the first time. Ease of use is one of the reasons why I recommend it gladly.

ActiveCampaign is being used across my entire organization. ActiveCampaign connects seamlessly to my client portal through a direct MemberVault integration. I use it for CRM, email marketing, form building, sales pages, gamification, and more! What I value the most about ActiveCampaign is its scalability. If I can think it up, I can build it in ActiveCampaign, and that is huge to me as a business owner.
  • With ActiveCampaign, I am able to build automated engagement workflows for my clients that are targeted to where they are in my unique client experience. We all want targeted and timely information, and ActiveCampaign makes this easy for me to provide to my customers.
  • With ActiveCampaign, I can integrate directly with MemberVault, within which I have built my client portal and all my offers. No double entering information or having to set up a third-party integration to zap my data from MemberVault to ActiveCampaign.
  • With ActiveCampaign's scoring abilities, it was very easy to extend the gamification within my client portal to things my clients do outside of the client portal. Not only can I reward clients for completing modules and lessons, but I can also reward them for reading emails and checking out my social media sites.
  • Every time I am creating a workflow, there comes a time when I will copy an action or set of actions and the system will give me the spinning wheel of death--until I refresh the screen. This is disruptive and happens so often that I see it as a part of using ActiveCampaign. That is not good, and if another system could do what ActiveCampaign does without this issue, I would leave ActiveCampaign. That is how frustrating this time suck is.
  • I wish that there were a way to input a field as text into another field so that whenever one field is updated, another field's data changes accordingly. For instance, if a client books an appointment with me for Monday and I want ActiveCampaign to input that date plus two days in another field.
  • I wish there was a way to make sales pages and forms pretty. These are so boxy and clunky and there is no modernization to draw the eye.
Someone or some businesses wanting their email marketing system to do the most if asked to, wants ActiveCampaign and will see value in the time it takes to set it up. Others who want their email marketing system to be simple, offer well-designed emails and sales funnel pages, and low in tech intensity will hate ActiveCampaign.

I am the owner of a sole proprietorship. I use ActiveCampaign for email marketing and marketing automation. I use it for lead collection both on my website as well as integrated with a sales funnel software called ClickFunnels.
  • Integration with Wordpress: I have a form integrated with my website to collect leads. Works great and has for years.
  • Integration with ClickFunnels: I have Active Campaign integrated with ClickFunnels. I use it for website pop-ups as well as other lead gen purposes.
  • Automated marketing: The visual automation creator is a game changer. It's helped me automate my marketing to new leads.
  • I wish there were more detailed reporting options available at the "plus" level.
  • It can be hard to find things you're looking for at times. I had a hard time finding the reports recently and had to jump on live chat to find them. Pretty intuitive most of the time but sometimes not so much.
Very suitable for online lead generation and marketing automation. I don't use the CRM feature but that's also available.
If you're looking for an email marketing platform, I really can't think of anywhere where it's not appropriate. I've used Mailchimp, Vertical Response and others over the years and I'm sticking with ActiveCampaign.

We use ActiveCampaign for many purposes to send out newsletters, to recover abandoned carts, and to stay in contact with our email lists. It helps us to nurture the relationship with our customers and potential customers.
  • Auto Responder
  • Recover abandoned carts
  • Lead Generation
  • SMS not included as core feature
  • Ease to use
  • Landing Pages
ActiveCampaign is been great in helping us recover abandoned carts as we are able to follow up with customers that don't complete the purchase on our website. This has given us a 2-3% uplift in sales.

ActiveCampaign is by far the most functional "email autoresponder" out there that I've tried. I use the quotes because it does so much more than just deal with simple email list campaigns.

I really love the tagging feature. Right now I'm working with a client for a series of live events. I'm using the tagging feature to create separate automations to go out and send people follow ups after each event. So, I can set up the automations when they register, auto-tag each sign up, then remind people of the event at distinct times and follow up to get feedback to quickly improve for the next week. All on autopilot! I'm looking like a rockstar lately.

The support is really good. They answer any question and have helped me figure out some cool solutions to make my life way easier.
  • Robust email automation
  • Great visual editors for both campaigns and automation chains
  • Patient, knowledgeable staff
  • I feel that ActiveCampaign can get a bit laggy, not as snappy as I would like
  • Sometimes the support queue can get very long
Compared to other options out there, this is by far the best that I've seen. I do feel it's expensive compared to the competition.

I use this to maintain an email list, send out weekly automations, send out campaigns and to monitor activity.
  • Very user friendly and easy to use.
  • It looks professional.
  • The support is great!
  • Some more customization would be nice.
  • It's hard to insert images at times.
  • The videos show up dark.
I have already recommended it to friends who are starting to build an email list and talk to their audiences. It doesn't always link well with my Squarespace website, so that's one area where it needs improvement.
