We use ActiveCampaign to generate and nurture leads, manage sales pipeline with a built-in CRM to help close sales, and stay in touch with existing customers. It's an integral part of the business as it helps bring in new customers and keep existing customers while increasing their lifetime value with new orders and services.
  • Automation campaigns are excellent in ActiveCampaign. It allows granular control over what happens when to whom and how. You can create very complex automated campaigns to nurture leads at the right time with the right content.
  • Ability to create custom pipelines is great as it allows us to cater to different sales processes that vary depending on customer type and/or different services, so we can track the right information in a flow that makes sense in specific situations.
  • Sending 1-to-1 emails in CRM that are tracked so we know when contacts open emails.
  • Chrome extension for Gmail is really useful to access contact data within emails in Gmail and being able to track emails sent in Gmail.
  • You can't add a contact without an email address.
  • Site tracking of visitors sometimes doesn't work, so when they submit a form their activity prior to form submission is lost.
  • Sales/CRM reporting is very limited. Anyone coming from a proper CRM like Salesforce would find reporting unusable, especially sales teams.
  • Email builder needs some work, it has certain limitations and doesn't allow custom designs to be editable in the builder.
  • No Android app for CRM (suppose to be in the works as we were told).
ActiveCampaign has its shortcomings, but it is a very good marketing automation platform and can do wonders for a business. The best feature is the automated campaigns. It allows very targeted communication that some larger (enterprise focused) marketing automation platforms can't provide. That's why a lot of businesses, especially online businesses, flock to ActiveCampaign. They want to take advantage of the automatons that ActiveCampaign provides to generate leads and sales.

Where I wouldn't recommend ActiveCampaign (at least not right now) is when a business has a sales team. The limited CRM functionality and poor reporting compared to dedicated CRMs would make it very difficult for a sales team to function, especially for a sales manager to get proper reporting to know how everyone is doing and where they are as a sales organization.

We use ActiveCampaign to keep our current and potential clients organized and ensure their information is updated, as well as sending marketing campagins.
  • Customer Support
  • Customizable actions
  • Keeping contacts well organized
  • Tags seem to randomly malfunction when sending campaigns
ActiveCampaign is great for most of our daily operations, including marketing campaigns and keeping our contacts organized. However, occasionally, there is a small, unpredictable glitch that causes some headache. For example, there was an issue with a marketing campaign that only went to some of the desired contacts for no apparent reason, despite the necessary logic being in place. You have to learn how to predict what tends to go wrong and work around it, which once you know is fine, but it can cause a problem the first time or two it happens.

We decided to swap from another Email Marketing platform to ActiveCampaign in order to get more tools to track our Email Marketing activity and always improve it to give our prospects and clients the right information at the right time during their buying journey. We were looking for a solution to be easily implemented with our CRM software (Salesforce), and with ActiveCampaign we found the right tool.
  • Scoring Point.
  • Automation linked to the actions made by customers and prospects.
  • Salesforce Integration.
  • Implementation with the Email Template Design Software.
  • User Experience Design.
  • Bulk Tag of contacts.
  • Reports dashboard.
ActiveCampaign is well suited in a company like ours that want to bring Email Marketing to our clients and prospect to a more structured level - than the simple newsletter - integrating the process with software already adopted by the company (as CRM Salesforce). Also, the pricing played an important role in the choosing of this platform, compared with other solutions.

I use ActiveCampaign in my organization to create my newsletters and help me with creating an email list. ActiveCampaign is very focused on user experience so it wasn't difficult to get what I wanted. You can do everything you think about! I am going to use it as well with my online program to send emails with learndash automatically. It doesn't need me to do that so I am spending more time on creating content for example.
  • Helping you to get ready with their features
  • Doing webinars to learn more about marketing
  • Limitless features and configurations
  • Easy to implement with other plugins
  • The menu can be easier to use
  • Sometimes emails take a "long time" to be sent
  • I think it is a pretty expensive service, it could be cheaper
I use ActiveCampaign to automatically [send] my newsletter. But this is not the only thing! I can split my readers into 3 categories with tags (fitness - wellness - health) or add them to all of them depending on what they like to read. It adds a better user experience to my company!

We use ActiveCampaign for several clients. We design emails and set up automations. ActiveCampaign has a robust automation feature and since we are a reseller, we can organize our client's accounts in one place.
  • Automation is the major feature of ActiveCampaign. We can visually outline how every email is sent out and when.
  • Having a reseller account lets us organize all of our client's account in one dashboard.
  • Texting automation in addition to sending emails is time saving and efficient. We can have both texts and emails sent in one automation outline.
  • I don't like how we currently have to log in to our account as a reseller. I wish there was an easier way to do this.
  • Automation outlines can get very detailed and can be hard to see on one page. I wish there was a way to zoom out to see the entire outline on one page.
ActiveCampaign isn't the cheapest solution out there but for more robust email marketing campaigns it's a must. I would not suggest ActiveCampaign to a small business that just wants to send out an email to their email list once a month since it won't be cost effective for their needs.

  • Easy to use.
  • Good automation.
  • Lots of designs to choose from.

  • Problems with foreign credit cards.

We use it across all my business: online shop, retail sell, newsletters, coupons, appointment forms... ActiveCampaign brings me solutions for all my business needs. I can have the control over our social media at two accounts plus a personal social media. ActiveCampaign has made it all easier, quicker and with a professional form.
  • Marketing campaigns.
  • Collect data securely from user.
  • Organize data.
  • Marketing automations.
  • Campaign design.
  • Fast messaging.
It is well suited for users with a minimal knowledge of digital marketing. If you don't have a minimal knowledge handling can be difficult. Also I need a thumbnail more friendly and also we can customize. Easier to integrate more platforms and more free customs for my automatics campaigns. More integrations for free users.

We use Active Campaign to send out transactional emails based on customer's visits and/or purchases from our site. We currently use this across all departments as it integrates with our marketing team as well to keep our visitors engaged. With all of this data, we are able to ensure that the communications that we send to our customers are targeted and relevant.
  • Contact's journey/interaction with our site and content.
  • Reporting
  • Customer support
  • Reporting on spam reports.
  • Speed of the web interface.
  • The way you access some features are less than logical.
Active Campaign is well suited for those companies that need one interface to do all of their marketing and customer engagement to understand the entire customer experience and the data associated with it. This may not be well suited for those companies that simply need an easy and quick way to send traditional emails.

Active Campaign is being used by Phantom Billstickers for email marketing campaigns. It is being used by the Marketing department only at this stage, but we are looking to extend the CRM piece to the Sales team. The automation functions as a way for us to send engaging and personalized content to customers to encourage them to become repeat customers.
  • Setting up automation is very easy and intuitive.
  • The onboarding process and help from Active Campaign has been amazing and helped solve any issues I have had.
  • Some of the personalization on automation requires too much input of information or assigning when it could be a simple client detail from the client card.
If you have a large customer database and want to send automated emails, then Active Campaign is great.

Currently used in my own as well as my clients businesses.

It saves so much time in sending out marketing especially with the automation recipes, and nurturing prospects.
  • Makes it easy to decide which automation to use when building my own sequence.
  • Made it simple for me to set up a simple campaign for my client.
  • Troubleshooting was fairly simple with the walk-through videos.
  • More diverse templates.
  • Stock image catalogue in-built.
  • Could do with highlighting the best order for setting up campaigns, lists, etc. Sometimes a bit uncertain what to do first.
Well suited where there are integrations to be made.

I am using it for CRM and for email marketing. What I love is that you can have both in one place and target your marketing efforts much more effectively.
  • It allows you to really customize your email marketing approach to make sure that the right people get the right content.
  • It is a very good tool to also do your CRM.
  • I love the potential of automation where you can have different funnels running at the same time. All customized to the specific prospect.
  • I find navigating sometimes a bit cumbersome and I tend to open multiple windows as a result.
  • It takes a bit of tweaking to receive notification about new subscribers. This is not as easy as turning something on or off if I recall correctly.
  • I would love to see a bit more flexibility in the email editor. It is good but it could be better.
For anyone who wants to tailor his marketing approach.

I am using ActiveCampaign in my own company as my main marketing channel. Not just for email marketing but for building and growing my client list consistently. I love how easily I can set up automations (the new templates on offer are amazing). ActiveCampaign is the third email marketing I've used and I think I am going to keep using it for a long time.
  • Integrations, more specifically Zapier and WordPress.
  • Templates : I love pre-made templates that can be customized.
  • Lead gen distribution.
  • Prices for smaller accounts.
  • I would like to receive email reports of my account activity (daily, weekly, monthly basis)
  • Dashboard design.
  • Deleting inactive clients from my lists and keeping them out of my price accountability.
ActiveCampaign is a great tool to use for an automated marketing funnel. Great for onboarding new users to your products and services. For the price, ActiveCampaign has no rivals. It can be used for B2B and B2C email marketing. Integrations with third-party platforms have no price. In my opinion, the best feature of ActiveCampaign is the free pre-made templates you can use and customized—lots of work, time, and troubles saved thanks to that.

I've used ActiveCampaign for one of my two copywriting businesses since 2016, and recently migrated my other business to ActiveCampaign from ConvertKit. As a marketing consultant and copywriter for SaaS and ecommerce businesses, I look for email service platforms that integrate well with store software and other tools. I preferred AC's old interface (I think it changed about a year and a half ago?), which I thought was more intuitive, but regardless, it still offers a MUCH better user experience and much more flexibility of use than ConvertKit.
  • WYSIWIG automations - Easy to map out branching flow logic and If/Then branches.
  • Integrations - Can use API or built-ins to connect with other tools.
  • Preview screen before sending - Nice to have a concise review before hitting Send.
  • Email editor - Can't insert images in-line in a text block, which is absolutely maddening.
  • Email editor's image tool itself is limited, and navigation is not intuitive (mostly hovering over graphic buttons and guessing what they might do).
  • It's not always clear when to use segments vs. groups vs. tags.
  • They insist on branding forms even on paid plans, which they didn't do in the past — If I'm paying $49+/month for a tool, I should be able to turn off the ActiveCampaign branding (I asked and was told I'd need to upgrade to the *next* level. Not cool).
I generally recommend AC to most people looking for an email platform, especially those whose email automation and segmentation needs will grow (e.g. stores, software founders, thought leaders with small teams). Alternatively, for those with lower budgets who need a slightly friendlier UI, I recommend MailChimp. For larger ecommerce stores, I recommend going straight to Klaviyo.

We use ActiveCampaign to create email automation. It is fundamental for follow up and customer service.
  • Easy to set up. One of the first things that you notice when you start using ActiveCampaign is how well-designed and intuitive the user interface is.
  • Intuitive automation. You don't need to be an expert to build an automation.
  • Affiliate friendly. I've never had problem adding affiliate link in my emails.
  • Customizable forms.
  • Customer service. The customer support must improve the response time, I had problem with billing and I waited days to have an answer.
  • A mobile app would be great.
ActiveCampaign is very easy to use and well laid out. It is easy to create some of the most robust automated customer follow-ups I have seen. It works, it is easy to understand and you have a massive amount of features available to you to handle basic email marketing, advanced marketing automation, behavioral automation, tagging, audience segmentation, and so on.

We started using ActiveCampaign as a tool to collect and manage our database of contacts and to create email campaigns and newsletters. This is pretty straight-forward and easy to use. Our sales team was recently engaged to use the CRM component with the Deals features. While this is well developed and easy to use overall, we are facing some issues either because the platform has some flaws, either it was not explained well enough how to use it.
  • Easy to use
  • A lot of features
  • Friendly price
  • email integration is flawed. Synchronising the email address with a deal does not bring only the relevant conversation between Sales Agent and Contact referring to a deal; all emails with the contact or with the sales agent are imported. So this feature is useless as it is wrongly implemented - you can not track the conversation and see what your contact and sales discussed so far. Also the feature does not bring the attachments of an email (if, for example, there was an offer or a brochure sent by one of your sales team, no one will be able to see it and pick up the sales process).
  • Deals reporting needs improvement. reporting from deals is a bit confusing and not very friendly. There are some features, but so far they don't hold a lot of value and still we need to go through a lot of manual work to get some data. Some reports (e.g. funnel) show numbers and percentages, but you can not see who the contact was and explore the case-by-case issue (e.g. if there were 4 deals LOST in stage X, we need to see who the contacts were so Sales can explain case by case why the deal was lost)
  • Customer service reply time needs optimization. It can be improved with better response time. If we open a case today regarding an issue or need assistance, getting a response after 3-4 days is not fast enough.
Good to manage database of contacts and to create email campaigns and newsletters.

Good but needs improvement for CRM and deals - especially the reporting features.

ActiveCampaign has been a great addition to our in/outbound marketing efforts. What you receive in the platform rivals others I tried like Hubspot e.g. marketing automations for a lot less in terms of monthly costs to our business. The platform is very user friendly and intuitive and they are always upgrading features/functionality. Highly recommend.
  • Email marketing
  • Marketing Automation
  • List segmentation
  • User support
  • Email campaign templates limited
  • Pricing tiers could be more flexible
ActiveCampaign has been great for our SMB use cases. Not sure how well it would work for larger marketing teams. Marketing automations have been very useful for our team to drive our sales funnel. Conversations has also been a welcome addition to our website and was very easy to integrate.

ActiveCampaign is primarily being used by our marketing department to manage all of our marketing automation needs. We use it to segment our qualified and disqualified users, entering them to our onboarding track based on their level of qualification. We also have developed a series of automations based on a user's behavior (we are able to do this through the native integration with Salesforce to track very specific behaviors).
  • Easy to build automations that allow you to have highly segmented email tracks.
  • Integrates directly with Salesforce for easy contact management.
  • Intuitive user interface that makes it easy to navigate.
  • A/B testing at the automation level for all plan levels.
  • Better reporting interface.
  • An easier way to take existing list members and add them to automation without having to tag them or create some kind of "trigger."
ActiveCampaign is great for building highly tailored drip email campaigns. It also offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of integrating it with other apps via Zapier. We use ActiveCampaign as the primary mechanism to get new users into our new user onboarding campaign.

The reporting interface could use some improvement. All of the data is there but I often feel as though I have to pull several different Excel files and manually create the reports I need.

ActiveCampaign provides us a solid marketing automation foundation, from keeping a database of our leads, to email marketing, and managing our lead-gen drip campaigns. In the past, we've struggled with needing to use multiple products, and keeping the data in sync and up to date was a challenge. We've centralized that information in ActiveCampaign, which has been quite valuable.
  • Email marketing
  • Designing marketing campaigns
  • Competitive pricing
  • CRM isn't robust enough for complex B2B sales.
  • Better management of leads at scale.
ActiveCampaign seems like a great fit for small to mid sized businesses that are implementing best practice marketing automation. While it has some 3rd party integrations, it hasn't been as good of a fit for our enterprise customers, as they require much more customization or integration than has been practical to accomplish within ActiveCampaign.

I use ActiveCampaign to store my email list and communicate with subscribers. I use it to deliver emails on a regular basis, and I've created different automations for different segments of users in my list. I have tried different types of email software, but ActiveCampaign is so far the best and the most flexible one.

  • Send broadcast emails to targeted users.
  • Preview and testing before sending.
  • Automations.
  • Reporting.
  • Email editor - Can't insert images in-line in a text block, which is absolutely maddening.
  • Email editor's image tool itself is limited, and navigation is not intuitive (mostly hovering over graphic buttons and guessing what they might do).
ActiveCampaign is well suited for small businesses just getting started in the email automation space and they’ll grow with you as you expand your customer list. If you have a large customer database and want to send automated emails, then Active Campaign is great.

It's a well known ESP in the online world, so integrates with other tools via API such as page builders, or membership plugins. Great for creating automated email sequences to build relationships with prospects or to on-board new customers.
If you're more of a blogger who needs to write new email content daily, then the number of steps to get to the email editor is going to be a put off for you.

I used ActiveCampaign to create and track form completion for people who clicked on a video or static ad I produced for Facebook for wine industry clients. The forms would smoothly allow a prospect to fill in their details and be gathered onto a list after they clicked on one of our Facebook ads.
  • Easy and intuitive to use.
  • Quick responsiveness from customer support.
  • Simplicity for a prospect to understand.
  • Form development was maybe a little too simple, may not look appealing to a prospect.
  • Could be more functionality in scheduling/calendaring functions.
  • Customer support was responsive, but sometimes the chat was unavailable or hard to find.
Creating a form for a prospect to fill was easy, but one needs an additional application to properly schedule and follow up with a prospect. We were able to create a form easily and integrate it into our landing page created in WordPress, no problem. But we needed more functionality in the calendar/scheduling function for a prospect to properly schedule an appointment.

ActiveCampaign is currently being used by our marketing department to help automate various tasks and create more personalized messaging for our current and future clients. We also use ActiveCampaign to assist our sales team, while are not currently using them for your CRM, we have looked at switching to them since it would allow us to further benefit from the features offered by ActiveCampaign and further automate and lessen the work load of our team.
  • Email Marketing - ActiveCampaign has an easy to use email marketing and email editing platform making it a cinch to create hand crafted emails with dynamic content, schedule, track and integrate with various analytic platforms.
  • Marketing Automation - ActiveCampaigns marketing automation tool has been a life saver for our marketing and sales teams. Easily allowing us to create various automations to nurture and tag new leads and existing clients, with personalized content all while minimizing manual tasks and saving us tons of time.
  • Lead Generation - ActiveCampaigns form builder easily allows us to create landing pages and link forms that will auto fill fields if the contact is already in the system. These forms allow us to nurture these leads and existing clients because each form can be added to a automation and various tasks and tags may be set automatically allow our teams to better understand what each client is specifically looking for.
  • Improve the conversations iOS app - The iOS provided by ActiveCampaign allows our sales team to use the conversations add-on to instantly chat with new leads or existing clients on the various landing pages we have it enabled on. However, the app consistently crashes and since about 6 months ago, we have been unable to use it. The ActiveCampaign support team is aware of the issues and is working on a fix but at this time, the app is still plagued with problems.
  • Add additional features for their lower packages such as deep data integrations and SMS marketing. While the lower packages offer many features by default, as a small business, adding on or upgrading packages for features such as the SMS sending is currently not in the budget. Having the SMS marketing feature in the the lower tier packages would, I think, be an amazing asset and help propel the ActiveCampaign platform further.
  • Improve navigation of the custom HTML email editing section. The HTML editing section of the email marketing section on ActiveCampaign, while easy to use, can be a bit of a hassle to go back and edit various campaigns or easily change subject lines without having to work through multiples steps in order to do so.
ActiveCampaign is very well suited for creating meaningful automations to help educate your customer along the sales funnel. The ease of use of its automation tool is second to none along with the unparalleled level of support and training offered when first signing up. Our team loves the ability to easily create landing pages and link ActiveCampaign forms to those pages with various automations and tags created to help us associate the right message and product for our customers. There has been more than one occasion that we have had to contact the ActiveCampaign support team and they have always replied quickly and were able to resolve most issues during the same business day they were contacted.

I use ActiveCampaign to host my email list, email then Monday - Friday and handle all my automations. It's being used by me as I'm currently a solo operation. It allows me to set up my own funnels and automations for customers coming in meaning I can make money with very little effort after the initial work is done.
  • Easy to use.
  • Great automation options.
  • Compatible with everything I need.
  • The mobile app could be clearer.
  • Open rates and CTR aren't visible on the main page.
  • The site on mobile isn't formatted very well.
ActiveCampaign is great for list building, daily campaigns and continuous automation. It's not so good for using on your mobile/cell due to poor mobile site formatting and an under developed app. However, I believe the app is in beta and I assume it will improve later down the line. At least I hope so.

We use ActiveCampaign for email campaigns like one-off announcements and newsletters, as well as for automation tied to landing pages and other opt-ins. Our marketing department uses the software primarily. We are a small business and this is our primary tool for marketing and email automation.

  • Managing contacts.
  • Managing lists and list segments.
  • Editing/changing format of draft campaigns could be easier.
  • 3rd party integrations could be more robust.
If you're not a professional or trained marketer and just need a simple, easy to use software interface for building automations and email campaigns, this is a great tool. Saves a lot of time and does not take too much time to learn the interface and basic functionality.

Active Campaign is being used by myself in order to prepare all the marketing campaigns to be sent by email. In the future, I also plan to train the fellow junior copywriters working with me, so that they can also use them for my company's marketing, but also for themselves as freelancers, once they start to grow. I changed to Active Campaign after being with another email marketing provider in order to be able to do better and more qualified segmentations.
  • Really good segmentation.
  • Nice visual to plan your funnels.
  • The scaling pricing is fine and fair, not only because the more people you have, the more you get charged, but also because it forces you to have a quality list, not numbers for the sake of numbers.
  • Ok, I like Active Campaign, but the email editor is horrendous: zero usability, lots of editing mistakes, lots of difficulties just to put one paragraph after another. Lots to be improved there.
Active Campaign is a really useful alternative when you have already worked with a software related to email marketing and you've got your things together. If it's your first time, it might be challenging, and you probably wouldn't be taking any advantage out of the usage of this tool. Besides, I have heard the Client Service is absolutely amazing, and they guide you until you have become used to the tool.
