The best all-round email marketing and CRM app

Rating: 9 out of 10
September 09, 2021
We're using ActiveCampaign as both a CRM and email marketing tool across the whole business:
  1. Managing contacts and recording our interactions with them
  2. Sending regular emails to our mailing list to stay in touch with them and provide educational content
  3. For automations as part of products and services we sell (onboarding and course delivery)
It helps us to stay in touch with people - the advantage over other apps is that it's CRM + email marketing in one, so we can see contact activity relating to email campaigns in the same place as notes, telephone call records, etc.
  • The email builder has a lot of customization options when compared with other email marketing apps.
  • The automation builder is incredibly powerful, particularly when combined with contact tagging. With 'tag added' and 'tag removed' as triggers for automations, there's huge scope for building automation.
  • Forms and landing pages are very useful, especially for list building.
Cons
  • My biggest frustration is with the email campaign reports. The UI appears to almost be from a different, much older app entirely. The data I can see about campaigns at a glance is very limited compared to other email marketing apps.
  • More flexibility with Zapier would be a real improvement.
  • The campaign creation process, although mostly excellent, feels a little clunky at times. For example, when choosing a segment to send to (that includes all contacts with a specific tag) I can't see who is in that segment without a number of additional clicks.
Although there are some areas for improvement, I do think it's the best combined CRM and email marketing app available right now - it's flexible enough to cover use cases for those new to using email marketing as well as those with advanced automation. It's perhaps less appropriate for those who aren't tech-savvy - there is a training available but the learning curve is a little steeper than with other email marketing apps.

We use ActiveCampaign for our email automation. We give prospects different tags when they fill out different landing pages. This places them in the automation for the particular product they've shown an interest in.
  • Email automations
  • Email campaigns
  • Contact tracking
  • Website tracking
Cons
  • Contact management by company should be easier
ActiveCampaign is great for nurturing leads through its email automation. You can map out drip-out emails to your leads in a very visual way. It gives you a lot of control over which branch the lead takes in the automation depending on the actions they have taken (clicking on links in the email, opening the email, etc.).

We are using ActiveCampaign as a link generation tool, email campaign tool for our customers and are very satisfied with the tool.
Plenty of automation features that are helpful in our daily business.
We compared AC to other tools on the market and concluded to use AC as it is the clear market leader.
  • automation
  • user handling
  • feature set for email sequences
Cons
  • mobile interface on smartphones (app) is missing
Active Campaign is well suited for the automation of email sequences and up/downsells for our products. Also for user handling and email broadcasts, it can be used perfectly. We are using it as a CRM System as well.
Only the user interface on mobile phones is poor (the app is missing )

ActiveCampaign is much better than Mailchimp

I use ActiveCampaign to host my email list, email then Monday - Friday and handle all my automations. It's being used by me as I'm currently a solo operation. It allows me to set up my own funnels and automations for customers coming in meaning I can make money with very little effort after the initial work is done.
  • Easy to use.
  • Great automation options.
  • Compatible with everything I need.
Cons
  • The mobile app could be clearer.
  • Open rates and CTR aren't visible on the main page.
  • The site on mobile isn't formatted very well.
ActiveCampaign is great for list building, daily campaigns and continuous automation. It's not so good for using on your mobile/cell due to poor mobile site formatting and an under developed app. However, I believe the app is in beta and I assume it will improve later down the line. At least I hope so.

ActiveCampaign or bust - why it should be your go-to service for email marketing. Don't settle for anything else!

ActiveCampaign is being used to engage with our mobile app users. We send tips, news, release information, etc. With mobile app users having so many different apps on their phones it's important to be able to communicate through a different channel as well, and that channel being email marketing.
  • Our onboarding process was amazing. The account management team is super knowledgeable and was supremely helpful with getting us started. The service is like no other I have ever experienced.
  • The tool itself is exceedingly intuitive. It was important to have a tool which was simple yet robust.
  • The reporting systems are perfect for what we need and are also easily accessible and understandable. They are delivered and reported in a format which makes it easy to follow.
Cons
  • I would offer a tutorial for each function as sometimes once you start a function you can't change it along the way. We started "playing" around with the forms only to find out each time we made changes it meant resubmitting it to our site dev.
ActiveCampaign is amazing for people who want to take control of their email marketing and slowly and steadily ramp up their program. The different account types and tools make it easy to start small and then scale. It is a very comprehensive tool but also doesn't feel overwhelming to start with.
