- Managing large catalogs of products
- Integration with a lot of cool apps for enhancing its core capabilities
- Huge library of very customizable themes, which by the way, have super-fast page load average times
- Core shipping rules are not very flexible. If you have complex business rules, you probably will need to pay for an app, which of course exists, but then will take from the total revenue of the business on a monthly basis, since the majority of them are not free.
- Integration with Avalara Tax is cool, but still you will need to manually enter the right tax code for each product. Imagine the pain for a large catalog of products!
- You will probably need to pay for a theme from a vendor to get some sort of customer service priority and attention to your particular needs. I'm very sure everyone will have one at some point.
- Fantastic, highly skilled and professional 24/7 technical support
- Willingness to help solve problems and sticking with the problem until a solution is found, which can take several days or weeks sometimes.
- Extremely reliable platform with minimal downtime.
- Needs better communication when there's a technical issue affecting stores.

Excellent ROI with BigCommerce
- The Sprout House website looks great and functions well on all platforms.
- It is easy to set-up products and shipping methods.
- BigCommerce has a variety of payment methods so clients can choose which works for them.
- BigCommerce makes my clients think I have a huge IT department, even though it is only me.
- The only feature that did not work well for me was multi-channel selling. It is easier for me to keep the different channels I sell on discreet and not all mixed in with BigCommerce.
Great option for online stores
- You can easily create your product list.
- You can adopt theme templates for free.
- It has as SSL certificate.
- You can easily create coupon codes.
- Setting the tax section can be time consuming.
- Some links are not customizable in Spanish language, but if you set it up in English you have nothing to worry about.
- The costumer service is not very accessible, don't get me wrong, they have a fine costumer service, but the hard thing is to get to it. A lot of steps and rounds.

- Usually, you can always recommend some improvement for a company, but with BigCommerce I can't even think of one.
- BigCommerce is an easy platform to use.
- BigCommerce comes with apps that a person can use for marketing and all other things.
- BigCommerce needs to get decent themes. The company lacks in this area, and cannot compare against Shopify. If a person looks at the themes that Out of a Sandbox and Pixel Union design for Shopify, a user can then understand why Shopify is rated the number 1 E-commerce platform. BigCommerce made news with Pixel Union, that they will design brilliant themes for BigCommerce's platform. About a year later, it seems that Pixel Union is not really interested anymore in the BigCommerce business after designing a few themes.
- BigCommerce also lacks a lot and is far behind other shopping carts when it comes to SEO.
- The BigCommerce product option app is very basic and is only good enough for a chicken farmer in Zimbabwe, as it can only do very basic stuff.
- BigCommerce, previously known as Interspire, lacks a lot of good international apps that can be used internationally. This Aussie platform only caters to the US most of the time.
- Payment gateways. Again, if you are in the US this platform is okay, but for the rest of the world it lacks good payment gateways, like for South Africa.

- Customer service has been excellent the few times I've had to call in.
- I have expedienced very few problems in several years of service.
- The behind the scenes admin operations are very easy to use and figure out.
- I'm happy with my service and have no complaints.
Compared to Network Solutions
- It provides a modern, high end look to our storefront.
- It does a good job of managing orders.
- It has good search functions.
- Very good support staff.
- There is not a function to save the customer's credit card info.
- It is not easy to take an order for a future delivery and then be able to charge the customer in the future when one ships. We ship out further than 30 days in some cases.
- The email part of BigCommerce, including sending notes to the customer, needs work. We have a separate email service in place.
- The one page check out page needs more versatility. It can't be edited very much at all.
Why I tell business friends to consider BigCommerce
- The confidence gained from having a support team who are so friendly and helpful is number one for me.
- The ability to go as shallow or deep into marketing as needed for each product is a powerful tool.
- The User setup allows for each person to contribute while security is maintained through their User status and allowances.
- Connecting other helpful apps after BigCommerce has done the troubleshooting is appreciated.
- BigCommerce has always looked after me, so no complaints.
- I don't expect perfection but am comforted that a team of experts is always worrying about the improvements so I don't have to.
I would like to see a model for selling services like bookkeeping as currently, it's only selling products or stand-alone e-publishing works.

The platform for dummies
- It's easy to give refunds.
- BigCommerce is easy to learn and use.
- When we changed the domain to lindseystirling sheet music.com after having a bigcommerce.com website name, there was no way to forward the old domain to the new one. We lost a TON of traffic and years of accumulated traffic, which meant the new website wasn’t as searchable. We lost a lot of money due to this.
- Sometimes the system logs out in the middle of uploading a digital file, and I have to start the upload over.
Love BigCommerce
- Multiple themes to choose from with many editing options
- Offers apps to help keep track of shipping, taxes, and more
- Beautiful professional style websites
- It's quite a bit of a learning curve when transitioning from a simpler web developer.
- Some of the "upgrades" are very expensive for some small business owners.
- The abandoned cart feature has been really helpful and time-saving. Before upgrading to plus, I would manually reach out to individuals who had abandoned carts to see if they needed any assistance or to remind them about their cart. Now I don't need to do it as the abandoned cart feature does it for me.
- Love the integration with Shopkeep, which is what we use as our in-arena POS. I create items there and are very easily able to integrate them into BigCommerce only having to make slight changes before making a product live on the site.
- I like customer analytics. I'm able to see which customers are spending the most money as well as how often they are spending. I've typically reached out to the individuals who've spent the most at the end of the year and give them a coupon code for a % off future purchases as a thank you for their support.
- My main concern has been regarding fraud purchases using stolen credit cards. It seems like there are individuals who test one card after another all hours of the night at times. This results in me getting hundreds of emails saying products are out of stock or low inventory as they are attempting to buy expensive products that there aren't many left off. It's been very annoying at times.
- I think there could be some tweaks to the analytics where you can get a better breakdown of what you're looking for.

Our website is the 'shop window' to the world, and although most international sales are not made using it, the successful way it works means we get seen by a large number of people in many countries.
- It is a great system to use out of the box. It's fairly easy to learn how to use, and has a speedy operation for updating and day-to-day maintenance.
- The wide variety of options for themes is excellent.
- It is also very scaleable, so that you can start in a controlled way and progress to a very comprehensive set-up
- It has been such a success for us, as we have seen web-sales double in two years, and this is now five times higher than our previous e-commerce website.
- I find managing the home page to be a bit bothersome, as in some ways this is the main area where some specialist assistance is required. Some places are editable by an average user, but not all, and this is frustrating.
- Additionally to the above, the home page is not found through the usual 'web pages' route for maintenance, or via 'storefront,' it is found in marketing, which is a complete mystery to me whenever I go looking for it.
- Also, the home page options are really limited to flying banners (very good if you have few products and want it jazzy) or static pods (ok but not very modern) the various theme options give a fair degree of choice, but you still end up thinking. I wish I could just edit this home page as simply as the other web pages
I am unable to advise where it would not be appropriate, as I have not found this scenario.
My favorite eCommerce platform is BigCommerce
As a frontend developer, I really like the way all the templates files are organized in BigCommerce. It's a straight forward job to move things around, and by using the barebone theme Cornerstone, all the functionality is already in place. The Twig template system is good, but Shopify's Liquid templates are a tiny bit more readable for me.
The support is great: quick, correct, and friendly response. BigCommerce is also very open about development and listens to the users/developers. I really like their Town Hall meetings.
Handling orders and products is very easy and intuitive. Handling orders involves two clicks: capture the payment and ship the order. This can be done on several orders at once. What I miss are some ready-made apps that solve some issues for shipping from and within Sweden.
