I own a small stationery company and am a one-woman show, so I need ease, trust, and affordability to keep going.
I use BigCommerce as my retail site, and prior to business model changes, I used it as my wholesale site as well. It provides the ability to have two separate pricing and tax structures, show some products to one user and not to another. If I was still wholesaling on my site, BigCommerce would still be my go-to.
  • Inclusive pricing: basic and advanced apps are part of your plan rather than as add-ons.
  • Ease of use. I can do technological tasks for the most part, but I don’t have time or energy, so BigCommerce’s user-friendliness is crucial to my business.
  • Customer service! Customer service! Customer service! I have a few questions every so often (or user error) and I know I can get on chat and quickly have someone on the case. They’re friendly, empathetic, determined, thorough, and have never let me down!
  • Their pricing is great, and especially since they include so many add-ons in their cost. The base cost is comparable to others, but the others require add-ons for additional costs.
  • Did I mention customer service?? Yep! And I will do it again. If you asked me which companies give great customer service, I would answer BigCommerce and the big boy, Apple. BigCommerce is that good!
  • Integrate with even more platforms. BigCommerce works with tons of companies, but there can always be more.
I switched from retail and wholesale to just retail, and had left something marked wrong that caused me problems in the retail portion. I chatted with customer service and they quickly found the issue, fixed it, and clearly communicated what had happened without making me feel stupid for the user-error.
Running a wholesale and retail combo took a lot of set-up and they tirelessly walked me through each question. They have tutorials but are still happy to help any other way.

BigCommerce host our e-commerce site. It is used across the entire organization. BigCommerce manages our orders, customer, products, marketing, analytics and emails in our day to day operations. BigCommerce can handle huge number products.
  • BigCommerce community and customer support is great. Always there to help you with any issues.
  • Easy setup and easy to use dashboard.
  • Stencil based theme gives us a great boost in speed.
  • Product import is a great plus.
  • Blog page without the search and without any categories makes it hard to search for particular blog.
  • Limitations to access the one page checkout.
  • BigCommerce has to include some of the apps as standard feature.
BigCommerce is well suited for any size of business. It provides you with lots of default features to provide a solution for eCommerce day to day issues. BigCommerce handles orders, customers, products, shipping, marketing and etc.

BigCommerce is used to host our online Wholesale eCommerce store. We have an offline department, but we still enter all ordered into BigCommerce as custom orders. This helps us with keeping up to date sales info on all of our customers, online and offline. Additionally, we use BigCommerce to manage our inventory across both online and offline departments.
  • Customer Service is fantastic. Their live chat function has helped in times of need!
  • BigCommerce allows for easy integration with other software such as MailChimp, Shipworks and more!
  • BigCommerce allows you to add notes to specific orders which is quite helpful when something is out of stock or refunded.
  • I'd love for BigCommerce to allow for importing of orders via a CSV.
  • I do wish BigCommerce could have more flexibility in the Bulk Edit function. Being able to adjust Minimums and options would be great.
  • I feel the analytics portion of the Enterprise plan is a bit lacking. It seems that sometimes it's difficult to gain real product sales stats.
BigCommerce is great for all types of stores, especially Wholesale. They allow you to be able to hide your product prices for users that are not logged into your store or have not yet created an account. This protects us wholesalers from retail consumers being able to see what the product they purchased at retail price would cost at wholesale. This protects our end customer, the retail stores.

BigCommerce is used across the whole organization. It is the driving force behind our online store sales.
  • Excellent customer service on phone and email
  • Easy to use interface
  • Fair pricing
  • Top of the line integrations
  • I’d like to see them add more direct email marketing features instead of going through a pricey third-party.

Big Commerce is used for the entire organization for sales and website content, including education and customer support.
  • Shopping Cart works across other platforms so our website looks a lot better than other companies.
  • It allows us to easily add content and educational pages which complement and help promote sales of our products.
  • Easy to upload bulk data with Microsoft Excel.
  • Products with multiple sizes and pictures are harder to import with Excel.
  • An Affiliate option should come with the BigCommerce platform. By being part of your platform, it will work better. It also allows us to interact with our customers more.
  • We should have a "Find a Distributor" built into the platform because many of our customers are looking for local distributors. This option should also have the ability to be modified to say Find a Physician, Find a Health Coach, or etc. Many e-commerce sites have distributor/partners in other states. This option allows us to be more interactive with our clients - it shows we care enough to help them find a local "expert", who is familiar with our products.
  • It should have built-in interactive questionnaire functionality, so it can ask customers a number of questions, and then give them an answer (using basic IF - THEN logic). For example, it would ask a number of questions, and then the LOGIC could suggest which product would be best - based on their answers. It should have the capacity to use as few as two questions, as well as unlimited, and even sequential questions. Again - we need BigCommerce to help us be more interactive with our clients.
  • We realize that the site is SSL secure. However, as more physicians get involved in e-commerce, we want platforms that are also HIPPA compliant so that if a patient wants to ask us a question, or download a copy of a lab test for us to review, we are using a HIPPA compliant platform.
Shopping cart works great but we need more interactive features.

BigCommerce is used as our retail store's website. Listing products was easy and simple to use. Navigation of the backend was quite easy and intuitive as well.
  • Easy navigation of the backend.
  • No coding experience necessary.
  • Very customizable.
  • We hit various limits on product options. These were not plan limits, but were limits that BigCommerce could not adjust for us.
  • Customer support was a little bit on the slow side - nothing major though.
It is quite easy to use. I started with BigCommerce as a step up from our 5-page website. It was not hard to learn how to operate the backend.

BigCommerce hosts my e-commerce website. It is used primarily by the sales department. BigCommerce allows me to host a customized e-commerce website with thousands of auto parts for a reasonable price. I chose it because they offered easy importing and exporting of products via a CSV file.
  • Handles large numbers of products very well. I have over 10,000 individual SKUs in my store.
  • They charge by sales volume. I have a large catalog but low sales volume so this works well for me.
  • Integrate a Google Shopping feed tool. I use Sales and Orders to feed my products to Google now but it is not very good and does not include all BigCommerce fields.
  • Add search by SKU number exact match in the product area.
  • Add ability to customize search behavior in the website header search tool, such as exact matches, AND, OR, etc.
If you have a large existing product catalog to import, BigCommerce can get you up and running VERY quickly.

If you need a very large amount of customization of your website, BigCommerce is not for you. Their framework is great, but not every part has the ability to change.

We enjoyed working within the BigCommerce platform for about five years. We liked how easy it was to update and change products, pricing, and photos. The interface is great for beginners and small stores with a small footprint. We struggled with the platform when our business grew and found it did not have all the features we were looking for, for the bakery.
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to update
  • Easy to change
  • It updates at odd times, which isn't good for business
  • Has a tendency to lock up so it's hard to log in and see sales
  • Customer service was sometimes hard to reach/understand
This platform is great for small companies with small footprints, not so much for the larger companies. Easy to use, and change information quickly, such as seasonal products or items. Hard to set up reoccurring sales such as monthly boxes or subscriptions.

We use BigCommerce (BC) as our e-commerce site. We sell our product through it. Our website and most of our marketing strategies are connected in BigCommerce. We access our email marketing strategy, track our sales, and use the shipping method through BC. It solves our business problem of keeping everything in one place.
  • I like the home screen. It shows my products that are in low numbers, it shows any messages I have, and it gives great insight to our website traffic and sales.
  • I like the easy to use side bar. It’s so easy to find what I am looking for.
  • I love the customer support. I have called and used the online chat for when I have questions. The people have always been super helpful.
  • I wish the social media could connect more.
BigCommerce is the only e-commerce site I have experience with. So I do not have much to compare it on. But so far it has been a great experience. All of my questions have been answered and I have figured everything else out on my own because it is all pretty straightforward.

We use BigCommerce for the store portion of our non-profit. We sell all our merchandise to supporters through our site to earn money for the non-profit.
  • Highly available support and quick feedback
  • Excellent store layouts and platforms
  • Good tutorials available for continued learning
  • Would like to be able to set individual shipping preferences for each product (without having to update the system as a whole)
  • Would like more options to include or exclude items during a sale (maybe by item vs category)
We only use it for our retail store and would recommend it for that!

We use this to generate sales on our website. The templates are easy to use and the support team is extremely helpful. The built in features help us reach a customer base we never thought we could. It allows for the right amount of customization to use.
  • Support
  • Templates
  • Ease of Use
  • Plan listings. We recently were bumped up into a plan that doesn't do anything for us. Only because we generated too many sales. We would like to go back to our old plan however it does not allow us to.
  • Third Party Website "skins" are difficult to deal with. BigCommerce needs to make a better effort to communicate needs to them.

It is being used as our host and e-commerce software provider for our website. It is used across the whole organization and it addresses not having to worry about managing our e-commerce website software, server and also security. It has all the features we need from an e-commerce service provider.
  • Easy to use
  • Full featured
  • Always innovating and staying up to date with the latest trends
  • They need a mobile app for iOS and Android where a user can manage their website. I know that this is currently in process though.
Easy to learn and a good platform to grow with as you grow your business and gain experience. The price might be too high for some users.

BigCommerce hosts the company's main e-commerce website. It is used across the whole organization. It is the main sales platform.
  • BigCommerce is easy to set up and use.
  • BigCommerce has excellent customer support.
  • BigCommerce integrates well with many apps.
  • BigCommerce offers many payment options.
  • BigCommerce integrates well with other sales channels.
  • I have issues with the blog commenting and page commenting that have never been resolved. I'd like to see that done better. That's my biggest complaint.
  • Analytics are a little creaky. It's a little hard to access and interpret some statistics, and I don't find the admin interface to it particularly easy to view/use.
  • Having my business email hosted at Big Commerce would be a really nice addition.
  • Being able to do all my accounting through BC would be great too, so I wouldn't have to pay for additional software to handle my business.
  • Tpet.com products are mostly downloads and it works really well for that—for individual kinds of downloads and making bundles. It's excellent. It works well for shipped products, too.
  • Tpet offers backup CDs or printed copy options for the downloadable products, which makes a mixed product. There's no way to charge shipping on the shippable portion of the mixed product, so free shipping for that is the only way to handle it that I know of. It would be great if there were a mixed product option for items or bundles that are both downloadable and shippable.
  • File uploading (via DAV) and file management could be better; I sometimes have a problem getting files where I want them to be and seeing where they are with Cyberduck.

We use BigCommerce across the entire organization. It's a great way for all of our users to keep on task with live updates. It's crucial to our business, as we process at least 70% of our sales via the internet, and all of those are run through the big commerce platform. Being able to update/modify orders "live" also keeps our customers up to date on the status of their order, which cuts down on unnecessary communication with us.
  • Very intuitive dashboard
  • I love the easy access to support, they've always been extremely helpful.
  • Quick loading times, and easy to make changes (even for an html newbie).
  • A list of preferred programmers would be great for us to access to get updates done—kind of like Fiverr. We're a small business and are handling all updates ourselves (which is really out of our wheelhouse as biologists).
  • We're very happy with bigcommerce!
  • Can't think of much else we would change!
I cannot think of any scenario where BigCommerce wasn't appropriate, except that if we try to access it via mobile, it's not very user-friendly. When a client places an order, they get an automatic update on their status. It allows us to get to work on it right away. We appreciate the inventory tracking that's a part of this. We also like getting email reminders when inventory is getting low on something, as well as the empty cart reminders that go out to customers if they have an abandoned cart.

BigCommerce is our online sales platform for both retail and wholesale customers. It gives us a place to sell our goods that can be accessed at any time of day by anyone with a computer or phone.
  • Flexibility: It seems like the options with BigCommerce are almost limitless.
  • Affordability: I like the fixed costs and what we get for the money.
  • Reliability: My store hasn't gone down yet.
  • Clunky: There are things I can't do. I have multiple classes of customers, but they all see the same shipping options.
  • Clunky: I cannot apply discounts to groupings of different product options.
  • Clunky: There are multiple places and ways to modify the site template, and many options are buried several submenus deep.
An affordable e-commerce store with a lot of flexibility if you know what you are doing. Not recommended for beginners or people without development staff.

My partner and I run a home business selling bondage rope via BC, eBay & Amazon. It provides me with a user-friendly way to create and manage my e-commerce presence by myself with minimal effort. All channels are integrated via Linnworks which provides a single interface for order processing, stock, and postage.
  • Great support
  • Reliable
  • Easy to use
  • The promised ability for UK users to create/manage listings on Amazon and eBay. This has yet to arrive but we still pay the same as US customers which I believe has this.
  • Ability to set exceptions to free postage with shipping by location on a specific item e.g. set free courier for UK but have different courier rates for non-UK.
  • Integration with Royal Mail OBA for postage.
It works very well for me but I can't comment on larger operations. Integration with Linnworks is a big plus, albeit I'd prefer to move to a cheaper alternative or, better still if you implemented the ability to update/list, eBay/Amazon, and had OBA integration, I could ditch probably Linnworks. They have a lot of unhappy users that you could pick up.

We currently use BigCommerce as an informational website and a private e-commerce platform for select customers. We had it built by a marketing firm a few years ago, and we currently maintain the site content and pages, as well as the functionality of the e-commerce site. We do not have a lot of interaction with the site other than the few people who deal with the clients and their private e-commerce site. Although it is small, it does address the fact that we are able to offer a small portion of our customers the feature to order online and receive a quick response.
  • Ease of use for page modification without much HTML experience needed
  • Relatively quick navigation
  • Good template selection
  • A bit constrained on modification within a template
  • Was difficult to set up different client e-commerce pages
  • Be able to add a product multiple times for different customers without changing the model number would be nice.
I think that if you are just wanting a few pages, of information to pass on to the end-user, BigCommerce is a great fit. If you are wanting to add in customization and modifications as well as the full e-commerce page, it may not be the best option. There have been some parts of the build that BigCommerce made very easy with their platform and I really appreciated that, but not all parts were.

BigCommerce is being used as the platform for our website. The website is used as a product library for marketing, customer support, application engineering, engineering, and quality assurance. From some members of our manufacturing and purchasing team: it is also a quick guide to our product offering, allowing easy access to datasheets.
  • BigCommerce is quite customizable, especially with a third-party developer.
  • BigCommerce is powerful as a database.
  • BigCommerce is convenient to use with bulk-edits.
  • BigCommerce does require users to be more sophisticated with computers.
  • BigCommerce does not have a "drag-and-drop" design feature for the front-end.
  • BigCommerce can be intimidating if you have lots of products.
BigCommerce is great for a company that doesn't have too many products and categories but is anticipating scale. The best way to onboard is through phases, and it is recommended that companies partner with a third-party developer if they do not have anyone on-site with software and coding skills at the time of implementation.

When we outgrew our last eCommerce product, we hesitated about implementing BigCommerce. Did we really want to learn a new product? Did we want the extra expense? After the two week trial period, we can' believe that we didn't start with BigCommerce out of the gate.

With only two of us who really create and manage products within BigCommerce, it allows our little company to appear as big and as professional as any of my competitors. Honestly? I think our site looks and operates easier because of BigCommerce. We use BC in every aspect: site development, SEO, customer orders, and fulfillment.

While I started using BigCommerce for my own company, I quickly chose BC as my choice when clients asked me to build eCommerce sites for them. The ability to include video and customer reviews made "selling" the product to clients incredibly easy.
  • The new version of BigCommerce presents a single page product solution - from naming the product to photos to the description: the workflow is easy enough where most employees should be able to understand how to use the product with little training.
  • Following customer's orders is a breeze. We used to use a Kanban-style system to keep track of the customer's orders as we custom-built each product. Big Commerce allows us to communicate not only within our team but also with the customer, to keep everyone in the loop about the status of the order.
  • The websites generated by the templates are bright and clean and keep wannabe designers from oversaturating a page with too much clutter.
  • The new version makes adding variations (color, sizes) very simple. It is a chore in the early system. I can't wait for the old sites to be able to port over.
  • The templates offered are limited. I understand the need to keep sites simple, but each site seems like a clone of the previous. Contract out a few designers to shake things up a bit.
  • I wish I could generate purchase orders from BC. I would love to review the items I'm low on based on the vendor and then select which items I wish to reorder.
BigCommerce is terrific for nearly all retail eCommerce solutions. I maintain five eCommerce sites for myself and clients. The represent a kilt shop, a high-end jewelry shop, a women's boutique, a cross-stitch shop, and an online magas.

My only gripe is the templates. If you're selling car parts or tools or motorcycle gear, none of the templates don't have a strong, masculine vibe. If you sell African Kente cloth, your vibe gets whitewashed with the generic templates. Yes, I know you can tweak each template, but there should be a simpler solution.

BigCommerce is being used as our online selling tool across our organization. It syncs to our Amber POS system, making inventory control easy. We have been a brick & mortar store for years and just launched our site with BigCommerce a week ago, finally making our products visible to the online audience.
  • Connectivity! BigCommerce has a variety of partner apps that work together seamlessly. They really do a great job with integration.
  • Simplicity! I am new to building a website and could not be happier with the amount of instruction given on how to complete all sorts of tasks. I love the WYSIWYG editors, constantly ensuring that my listing and emails appear exactly as I expect them to.
  • Info! BigCommerce does a remarkable job at providing endless sources of support. There are documents and step by step instructions for virtually any feature available!
  • Live Chat! BigCommerce offers a 24/7 live chat feature where support reps can help you to diagnose and fix any number of technical issues that may happen. They are knowledgeable, patient, and friendly!
  • Transparency. BigCommerce has great connectivity and integrations, but connectivity with my Amber POS leaves me with many hiccups. I think BigCommerce should look into their 3rd party integrations and make sure to let customers know which features don't sync. I have two stores, but the connectivity between Amber and BigCommerce pools my two store's inventory into one inventory number causing some confusion as to which store to pull the item from, etc. I realize this has more to do with Amber POS than BigCommerce, but if I knew to connectivity was so limited, I might have looked for a different program.
  • Training/Idea Sharing. BigCommerce reps on live chat are mostly very helpful. I have had an instance where a rep had no solution for my problem and recommended I get IT help, only for me to talk to another rep and get a fix for my issue within 5 minutes. Maybe some sort of database where reps can type in a brief description of the problem encountered and the fix found, that way if another rep encounters that issue, he/she will have some known fixes to try.
I think BigCommerce is especially well suited for those selling an item with choosable features (color, size, etc). It handles these listings easily and makes everything run smooth for both customer and company. I think it is less suited to companies that offer VIP rewards to their customers, if these rewards are based upon anything other than a % or $ off per order. We have a structure where customers can receive discounts to purchase items at a certain % above cost, I have not found a way to build our rewards system within the program yet.

We use Big Commerce across our entire organization as a part of our online sales. It allows our customers to process orders, check the status of their shipment, and e-mail any questions that they might have.
  • Unlimited number of part numbers and photos for inventory items
  • Direct processing of credit cards
  • Discreet customer information
  • Security compliance included
  • Inventory item entry is cumbersome and time consuming
  • Integrated full website would be helpful ie like GoDaddy provides
While I think it is suited for small business with limited product lines, I think it is a bit more challenging for businesses that have a more extensive list of products and services.

Our organization uses BigCommerce to promote products and services used within our organization, as well as provide easy donation accessibility across our entire organization. Because our non-profit organization has chapters in various states, with products being drop-shipped to each location, it provides an easy way for us to track inventory and sales.
  • Extremely easy to custom the templates with lots of options.
  • Provides tremendous amount of "how to" help in the knowledge base, guides, and community.
  • Customer service is very responsive, knowledgeable and helpful. Solves the problem the first time, every time.
  • Company responds to needs and wants of its users. They provide a place to request needs/wants with the ability for other users to read and respond. Company responds to those issues which of most concern.
  • Monthly updates with improvements to the platform.
  • No mobile app.
  • Ease of use, need to be somewhat tech-savvy.
  • Editing interface can be difficult to navigate but that is due to the wide range of options available.
BigCommerce is well suited for organizations with a wide range of products or a broad customer base that needs flexible sales options. Since it has a broad platform with numerous options, it many not be the best option for a start-up. It is not well suited for those who are not tech-savvy and need to do their own website building.

BigCommerce provides us with a B2C website for end-users to browse and purchase from. This also gives customers the chance to browse what is available in-store before committing to visiting us, and is an important feature. We have some local competitors which do not have this, and it is often assumed that they do not sell motorcycle clothing when they do.
  • Ease of use.
  • Reliability, as the website has never been down.
  • Cost.
  • For some features you need to be on higher plans, which are expensive for a small company.
  • Coupon/discount codes are missing some simple features.
BigCommerce is well suited for small companies looking to get a simple website up and running quickly for not much cost. Their design templates are good, and much easier to make small changes to so that you can have a good looking functional website that will not cost you a fortune or take a long time.

We started using BigCommerce in 2 niches within our company. We find it very simple to use and simple to train new staff on. Most importantly, our customers really like the look and feel. To make template updates is fairly simple too so we can keep our sites feeling fresh whenever a repeat customer comes back. Updating products and categories is quite simple and adding in variations is really simple. BigCommerce University is a fantastic resource for reminding yourself of how to do things that you don't do every day. The BigCommerce Community is a great tool also to get advice and tips. Our stores integrate with eBay too, so this saves us heaps of manual work in listing products there also.
Big Commerce is a really important tool for our busi ness
  • The Big Commerce Help Desk is fantastic. It doesn't matter what time I call from Australia, the team is always helpful and courteous. And they really try to help me as best as possible.
  • Integration with eBay saves me heaps of time in having to relist products.
  • I love the simplicity of adding products - within a few clicks I have added a new line and its live.
  • The abandoned cart feature is well worth subscribing to - it's amazing how often I get a notification saying and abandoned cart has been converted.
  • Integration with Amazon - we are expanding onto Amazon AU and integration would make this a lot easier.
In our business, we need to be able to quickly update on the fly product information. BigCommerce allows us to do this. Our site looks like we are one of the big players and gives the impression of size and volume, but really we are just a small, really hard-working team.

We use BigCommerce as our online store for handmade jewelry.
  • Able to control the store in every way.
  • Use for inventory.
  • Stencils are good.
  • Glitches in tracking inventory with multiple option sets example colored stones and sizes.
BigCommerce is well suited for products where there are a couple of options available and being able to track the inventory. It is easy to upload products option sets are always trouble.
