What is Sales Acceleration?
Sales acceleration software helps to speed up the sales cycle by automating administrative tasks and streamlining sales processes. These tools are designed with the goals of increasing sales velocity and making individual sales reps more in mind. This is similar to, but slightly different from, the primary goal of sales enablement software, which focuses more on sales behavior and equipping salespeople with quality materials, quality opportunities, and best practices.
There is certainly overlap between sales enablement and sales acceleration software; many products bundle features of both, and some vendors use these terms interchangeably. In general, sales acceleration is a strategic initiative to have more sales conversations, shorten the sales cycle, and/or close more deals.
Components of a Sales Acceleration Strategy
Sales acceleration software usually falls into one or more of the following categories, depending on which tasks and processes they aim to make more efficient:
- Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ), such as Apttus and Salesforce CPQ.
- Conversation Intelligence Software, such as Chorus.ai and Gong.io.
- Sales Proposal Automation, such as Qvidian, PMAPS, Sofon, and Octiv.
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM), such as Oracle Sales Cloud.
- Sales Email Tools, such as Yesware.
- Sales Intelligence (especially prospecting tools), such as LeadFuze and AdDataExpress.
- Sales Dialers and click-to-call software, such as ConnectLeader Click Dialer.
While vendors in most of these categories use the term "sales acceleration" somewhere in their value proposition, vendors that use this label as their primary categorization have bundled multiple feature sets together from across these categories.
Sales Acceleration Software Comparison
Before investing in one or more of the types of tools mentioned above, consider the following key factors:
- Type of tool: Are you looking for a specific type of software, like a sales CRM, email tracking tools, CPQ software, or sales intelligence tools? Certain products focus exclusively on one capability area, while sales engagement platforms like SalesLoft, Outreach, and VanillaSoft tend to cover a wide range of sales acceleration and enablement capabilities. Because of this, point solutions like an email tracking tool or CPQ product are typically less expensive than comprehensive sales engagement platforms.
- Integrations: Will the product integrate well with the other sales and marketing software you’re currently using? Integrations between sales acceleration and CRM and marketing automation software are often critical for maintaining accurate contact records and other types of customer data.
Prices for sales acceleration software can vary widely, depending on the type of product, the number of user licenses required, and the number of features that are included. Larger sales engagement style platforms can cost multiple thousands of dollars. Most vendors that sell more comprehensive sales engagement or sales acceleration software do not publicly display pricing on their website. Interested buyers should request a quote directly from the vendor.
Smaller solutions, like email tracking tools, are typically much cheaper. For example, prices for sales email tracking tools can range from $325 per user per month up to $75 per user per month.
