We haven't used the other platforms for a site yet, we have only evaluated them as a potential next step. In our evaluations, we have found that BigCommerce has a lower price point than Shopify seems to have for the same level of functionality. As far as the layouts/templates, they all seem to have a professional look that would work for us.

We tested our Shopify before switching to BigCommerce. The main reason behind our decision was the limitations of variant listings on the Shopify platform. BigCommerce allows for more variants in a product group. We also went with BigCommerce because we were hiring a developer to customize the site and they recommended BigCommerce.

My first website was built by a small, local, upstart company some 15 years ago. That website integrated with NCR Counterpoint, my POS at that time. I thought we had a nice website that communicated well with our POS; however, I was not happy with the cost of upgrades or the control NCR Counterpoint maintained over my inventory database and photographs. The upgrades and miscellaneous costs were more than a small company like mine could bear. I was also unhappy with the fact while stored on my server, I had limited access to my product descriptions and photographs. When my system crashed, I lost everything and had to rebuild from scratch or face high recovery costs. With BigCommerce I feel that I have much more control over my work and with cloud-based storage, I am able to work from different computers and I'm not so worried about the possible loss.

BigCommerce met more of the needs of our company than any other SaaS eCommerce option when I compared them on paper. Then I did a test of BigCommerce and 2 or 3 others, and there was no competition -- the customer service before the sale was exceptional with BigCommerce and continues to be the biggest selling point for me.

We are continuing to use BigCommerce because it works for us right now. However, given that we are required to invest in a new theme, which effectively involves building a brand new store, we are also considering other options right now.

Another serious contender to those planning to launch a B2B store is AmerCommerce. It offers a very impressive range of backend functionality. The only area where I see it lacking compared to BigCommerce is their pricing model. I cannot rate their long-term performance, since I only used them for a 15-day trial, but as far as features and the back-end design goes, they are on par with the leading e-commerce platforms.

Volusion didn’t seem to take itself seriously enough to continue developing its platform as e-commerce took hold with more and more small businesses. In particular, our needs included more SEO and CSV capability that BigCommerce had and Volusion didn’t.

I've never used another shopping platform previously since I did my own HTML coding, but I'm thrilled to have them on my side. Their monthly town hall is both informative on new products and integrations but gives me the feeling of actually knowing some of the very talented people who created and maintain the wonderful structure.

BigCommerce is a lot more flexible and innovative. Even though Shopify, at the time offered more free apps and themes than BigCommerce, all the other features of BigCommerce outweighed those concerns. Shopify at the time did not have the monthly webinars that BigCommerce has. It's a great way to know the BigCommerce staff and to listen to their innovations and adaptations based on user input.

BigCommerce is in another league above Bluehost. Blue Host utilizes WordPress for building storefronts. While WordPress gave us to the ability to customize all facets of our website, it was very difficult to use. They also didn't have seamless integration with credit card processors. After working with Bluehost for a month I quickly realized that I was wasting my time and money.

Yahoo store: There I had to copy and move every product into a separate category if I wanted to have it in multiple categories. BigCommerce lets me list any product in as many categories I want with the click of a mouse.

WooCommmerce and Magento are great, provided you have a consistent developer team that can constantly manage it and clients have the budget for that. But most times, the amount of money spent on developer managed sites is better spent on growing the company instead of custom management and development. Its easier to train people on how to manage.

Shopify is great for starter sites, but our hangup with Shopify is the company itself is known for kicking entire platforms and integrations off its platform or whole industries with minimal notice (like Mailchimp, Paypal by Braintree and outdoor-related/firearms industries).

Shopify also forces you to pay an additional 1% processing on top of your credit card processor which seems small but not when you're doing $1m+ in revenue. It adds up quickly.

We evaluated several different e-commerce platforms when our previous platform pivoted into a different online space. We needed ease of use, flexibility in the product catalog, and a solid foundation of SEO and good, correct coding to build on. Our choice was quickly narrowed to Shopify and BigCommerce due to the features and benefits they offered.

We chose BigCommerce for the flexibility of the customer-facing experience and backend management, ease of use, robust SEO features, uptime, and customer support.

Replatforming is always an arduous journey—the process is frustrating and exhausting even with our smaller 600+ item catalog. Updating photos and descriptions took a long time, but the bulk of the work was due to poor SEO redirect practices from our previous platform, creating a huge workload that was not foreseen. BigCommerce support helped educate us on how to best approach the task by sharing articles and resources from both BigCommerce and respected outside authors. The BigCommerce community forum, especially the Marketing and SEO section, was a godsend as several professionals gave valuable detailed advice to help us get started and keep us on the right path.

I did not select BC, it was part of the channel strategy already in place when I purchased the company. I have evaluated it against shopify and woo commerce, and frankly, it seems older, slower and has many customer complaints on the various forums. Less and less developers want to work on it too.

Yahoo hadn't updated their software since 2007 and then sold to Aabaco, and since they made the switch, nothing further has happened, and their support team is non-existent. We suspect they sold it to shut down the platform, but we're speculating.
Bigcommerce was the best decision we could have made - their platform has the newest options, the templates are great, user interface is easy, and customer support is perfect. We cannot wait to launch.

I think BigCommerce and Shopify are pretty much head to head. There isn't too much difference in them, however, one excels better than the other. For me, the deal-breaker on using BigCommerce was the transaction fees that Shopify charges to merchants who use anything but ShopifyPay, it can suck away at margins.

I looked at about 5 other providers, had discussions about building my own website with programmers and in the end, felt Big Commerce was the most suited to our needs. Other websites wanted big dollars, multi-year commitments, and I felt offered limited support for their systems or very expensive support for their systems and none of that came through with BC. BC offered a great program through PayPal with all the support I needed at a very reasonable cost structure and very pleased so far with the results.

It's been a while since we researched website providers, but what I remember in reviewing that what led BigCommerce to the top were the comparisons in terms of flexibility and their diverse template choices. It was important for us at the time, since we were looking for something very specific. Their top-notch technical support has proven itself a million times over -- I can't say enough great things about them!
