Act-On is used by our sales and marketing teams to generate sales interest, capture and nurture leads and to communicate with customers and prospects.
  • Act-On has an outstanding on-boarding team so set up and launch of the system was very easy for us.
  • We love the GoToWebinar and Salesforce integration.
  • Act-On's customer success and support is outstanding.
  • All of our prospecting and marcom emails are sent through Act-On and the open/click visibility is great.
  • The email editor can be a little clunky but they have made some improvements to it recently.
  • We sometimes struggle with email deliverability but I'm not sure that is Act-On's fault.
I think Act-On is well suited to large and small marketing departments that are looking to improve the quality and professionalism of their prospect and customer facing communications. Act-On allows us to get more done in less time.

We use Act-On to promote our various products such as events and subscriptions as well as sending out newsletters to customers and prospects. We also have a series of automated emails to people who take out free trials.
  • Easy to set up automated campaigns.
  • Works well with Salesforce.
  • Billing is based on unique contacts emailed in a month not by the number of emails sent, which is easier to budget for.
  • Responsive customer service.
  • Designing html emails sometimes needs knowledge of html coding otherwise there can be frustrations with things like spacing and fonts.
It is perhaps more geared up for marketing communications than customer communications. For example for customers, we want to send them emails even if they don't open them often because they have paid to receive them. But Act-On is inclined to treat them as unengaged and wants to cut them off (because that helps deliverability overall). We are working with them to try to resolve that and improve some deliverability issues that have arisen.

Act-On is currently being used by the marketing team, however, input is sought from the business development team when thinking about content, automated workflows etc. We have two marketing users, and may look to increase the sales users next year. It addresses the problems of being able to manage multiple leads through a nurture process with minimum resources through the use of automated programmes.
  • Website prospecting - allows you to see both named users (once set up) and anonymous users, but very useful as an analytics tool.
  • Automated programmes - the ability to put leads into a workflow that nurtures them to a point where they become sales ready.
  • Forms - the ability to capture data whilst at conferences and then turn that into usable Salesforce data.
  • Reporting - the reporting on automated programmes is slightly clunky, and it would be good to easily see user stats on emails sent this way.
  • The ability to quickly send an outbound email based on a template from an automated programme would be good.
I believe to use Act-On to its full capability, you need to have a strong funnel of leads, and also a lot of content lined up ready to go, as well as a strong content plan; always looking 3-6 months ahead. Without these things you won't get the full benefit of the service.

ADAM Software is using Microsof Dynamics CRM and Act-On was one of the only providers that had an out of the box integration with that platform. The integration works seamlessly and helped us improve collaboration between marketing and sales. Act-On allows us to build different segments in only a few clicks. That way, we can set up campaigns for many different audiences. The mail editor is quick and easy to handle. It allows you to create professional looking emails, with a lot of personalization options. When attributing leads to sales they can access a timeline of all of the lead contact points. Also the reporting tools are worth mentioning. They are very detailed, but remain readable and easy to explain.

We use Act-On for B2B marketing to our potential clients/affiliates. We then also use Act-On to run marketing campaigns on behalf of these affiliates out to their own client base. Our marketing team uses it for inbound and outbound leads, passing warm leads to a small sales team. We have integrated Act-On with Sugar CRM to facilitate this.
  • Great customer service, despite the fact that we are currently on their lowest pricing tier so could be seen as a low-profit client, we still have access to a named customer success manager and super quick support.
  • Constantly update the product to reflect changing marketing trends.
  • Their professional services team are available at very reasonable rates to help you to carry out tasks that you don't have the time, skills or resources to do yourself, such as designing custom email templates or building landing pages.
  • Support of more webinar software would be great, especially the automated webinar software such as Evergreen
We were attracted particularly to Act-On's pricing model. You pay for active contacts per calendar month. So if you have a large mailing list but you only contact them sporadically then it is ideal as you aren't paying a huge amount for 1,000,000 contacts that you aren't actively marketing to. Equally once you contact an individual you can send as many follow up emails in that month as you want with no extra charge, so it is ideal for campaign-based marketing over (say) a two week period.

It is also great that you can send from as many email addresses and domains as you want at no added charge.

I am an inbound marketing specialist for Interworks Cloud and I use Act-on daily for every marketing/inbound activity I need to do. I love Act-on for various reasons but if you would ask me what the most important reasons are, I would mention its capability to track every action of your prospects and the continuous improvement in the platform's features. Not only I can create a great inbound campaign but I can track anyone (known or not) that interacts with it. I use Act-On in every inbound or outbound activity such as, newsletters, landing pages, blogposts etc. Last but not least Act-On has by far the best customer service I have experienced so far. They make sure that their customer will stay happy in any way they can.
  • Act-on provides its customers with valuable feedback concerning their prospective and existing customers behavior. If you launch a campaign through Act-On you can see analytics on every action a prospective lead does (clicks, interactions, form's views etc) in order to handle your lead appropriately.
  • Act-On provides elaborate feedback concerning your SEO optimization on every landing page you may publish in order to ensure that your ranking is appropriate.
  • The website tracker enables Act-On customers to see where their end-customers or existing leads give attention. The tracker most of the time, provides you with data as to which company is the one that enters your website. So if you have an outbound or inbound agent he will knows where he stands concerning customer engagement on your website.
  • The only weakness I can find concerns the forms and how you can manipulate them. Despite the fact that you can have full statistical data of any form you put inside a landing page for example, there is not enough room in order to make them have the look and feel of the rest of your content.

Act-On is an easy to use solution for marketing automation. The setup is very easy and does not require much technical support. The tool is very intuitive to use when you are familiar with mailing systems and modern content management systems. Another advantage is the quick and easy integration into CRM systems like SugarCRM and granular list segmentation with your imported contact lists.

No real dislike but room for improvement is with translations (e.g. German). There are translations existing but not in very good quality (seems machine translated).

Instead of using different solutions for mail campaigns, nurturing the CRM, tracking leads and giving lead scores we can use everything combined in one tool with Act-On. A very big advantage is the efficiency and reduction of manual work with the automated programs.

The Act-On Anywhere integration is simply superb. My sales teams are able to check content from our CRM without ever having to actually leave the CRM.

I love the automation features, although it does have a steep learning curve attached to it - the automation represents perhaps one of the best tools I've seen on the marketplace to date.

Act-On is our primary marketing tool within our firm. Act-On helps us to easily create, design and send email, landing pages and much more. It is an advanced tool, but easy to use system supporting our segmentation and lead nurturing across a number of different verticals. The integration into our CRM platform was simple and provides valuable information for our sales users.

  • Easy to use importing of lists from CRM and ability to further segment lists.

We use Act-On as our primary marketing platform. I use it for drip campaign, email marketing, webinar set up, social media, and reporting. This tool has allowed use to continue our 20% yearly growth because of its ease of use and ability to get through to the intended audience. The automation features in this product are huge time savers and the ability to integrate with our Salesforce and WebEx tools allows for consistency across our organization. Our bounce rates have gone from over 50% to under 3%. We are able to get visibility into how our potential customers are accessing our information through the Act-On tool. This enables us to craft our messaging accordingly. The reporting from the very beginning to the end is invaluable for reporting and budgeting.
  • Webinar Creation-This is synced up with our Saleforce and WebEx tools for a smooth seamless event from start to finish. Getting our message through but also keeping our CRM up to date with the interaction.
  • Send Over Time- I cannot preach enough about how effective this feature is for getting messaging through. You are able to select specific time blocks that you would like your blast to drip out. This allows them to less likely be marked as spam because they trickle out.
  • Automation-Some of the best drip marketing features I have ever seen! Automation allows for multiple lists and segments with an endless group of messages. One of the best ways to save you and your team time and allow the customers to raise their hands for help.
  • Support-Their support staff is amazing! You never have to talk to someone you cannot understand or that is not personable. They are always ready and eager to help in anyway they can. Their ability to escalate and get answers the same day is very impressive.
  • I would really like to see the "send over time" feature be added back to the webinar messaging. This feature is very important for maintaining a low bounce rate.
  • It would be nice to allow for more flexibility with the information processed in funnel reports. Not all of the options available will allow for the data that we are looking for.
  • They need to design a better functioning more realistic marketing calendar.
Make sure that you are prepared to use all of the functions provided within your marketing team. For some organizations, cost is an issue. If you are not willing to invest in your leads then this is NOT the right tool for you. Make sure that you are invested into the proper set up of Act-On, otherwise you will not get the results you are looking for.

Our organization utilizes Act-On from a marketing standpoint. It addresses the problems of reaching our customers, keeping them informed, and addressing any questions they may have. It acts as a tool to send and collect information from customers around the world. It is an intuitive tool that effectively reaches any audience.
  • There are many customization tools available within Act-On to personalize your brand and tailor your marketing campaigns for each audience.
  • Automated programs are a key feature within Act-On. This takes away much of the manual labor associated with email campaigns.
  • Act-On provides an abundant amount of resources for its customers. Act-On University and the customer success managers are always available to answer your questions.
  • It took me a little while to get the feel for customizing outbound messages. Some of the tools were a little hard to get used to.
Act-On is well suited for any company that has a need or desire to send information to its customers. Furthermore, you want to be able to assess the success rates of your campaigns. With that being said, pretty much any company could benefit from using Act-On. There are a variety of tools to suit any company's needs.

In our small company, I am the sole user of Act-On. I use it almost daily to send emails to multiple groups of prospects and customers across the organization. Act-On allows us to quickly and easily send marketing emails, retention emails, and weekly newsletters. It also allows us to take care of opt-outs easily, so we can stay compliant and keep our deliverability high. Within our account, we are able to manage thousands of contacts and view each contact's profile to see how many emails they have been sent, how many they have opened, and how many they have clicked, which keeps us organized and on task with how we are communicating with our prospects.
  • Email creation - The templates are especially helpful, but the fact that we can customize them to match whatever colors or styles fit the theme of our email message, is a big plus.
  • Customer service - The Act-On team is always reaching out to check in and see how they can help us reach our goals faster and more easily.
  • Deliverability - I never have to worry that we are going to end up on a blacklist or that our emails will not get sent out at the correct time. For over 3 years I have trusted Act-On and their excellent deliverability.
  • More training - There are features I haven't used, due to lack of knowing how to use them. The team has offered to train me on these, I just need to take them up on the offer!
  • Email lists - Sometimes if I remove an opt-out from one list, they are still included in another list. This can just be a source of time-consumption as I have to go find where else the contact is in our account.
Most definitely, Act-On is best for companies that want to send multiple messages to the same contact many times during a month. Most email automation systems will count each email sent against the monthly allowance, but Act-On only counts the actual contact that is sent to each month, and it only counts it once, which is great for a company like ours. We send multiple emails to the same prospects each month, so Act-On fits our needs extremely well.

Act-On helps us to overcome the challenge of limited resources with an advanced, but easy to use system supporting our segmentation and lead nurturing across a number of different verticals.
  • Campaign A/B Testing - extremely easy, and highly illustrative, actively improving everything we do at all times.
  • Integration with Salesforce CRM - removes data silos and ensures consistent view of engagement and audience whether via Salesforce or Act-On.

  • HTML Email formatting and configuration.

Act-On is really being utilized by two departments within our organization. Our marketing team is using it for email campaigns, posting to social media sites, marketing lists and reporting. I know that they are able to pull better metrics for reports now that we have implemented this too.

I am on the business development team, which means that we are using it for different reasons. My team is using it to track who has been to our site to what pages they visited. From there, we are able to create drip campaigns using Act-On, in order to really target our warmer leads. This is something we have never had in place before, so it really has helped us become more efficient when doing cold emails.
  • It not only allows you to see who visited your website, but also what pages they were clicking on. This comes in really handy when you need to separate webinar leads from people who really want to purchase your product and are looking at something like the product tour.
  • We use Dynamics CRM and it has the connector with that system. This allows us to send emails to our prospects directly from our CRM system. As a business development specialist, we constantly work with people who go dark after awhile. With this feature we are able to see whether or not they are opening our emails that we sent. This helps us focus on which prospects we should continue to go after, and which one's we should let go.
  • I LOVE being able to set up alerts for my territories. I can say all the state that I work with, and it sends me an updated list of new people visiting our site in those areas. This means that you don't have to filter through long lists just to find which prospects might be yours. Once again, making your team more productive and efficient.
  • There is only one thing that I can honestly say I wish they would change. If you send an email from Dynamic CRM, it does log the email in the history which is nice. However, you can't preview or view the email in your CRM system. It provides you with a link that drives you out of that system and into Act-On.
I think the major departments that would use a solution like this would be the marketing and business development teams. I think one thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to expand the use to your business development team, make sure that they have a connector or can integrate with your CRM system. This way, everything still stays centralized in one repository.

We use Act-On both in our business for our own lead generation and marketing automation as well as for our clients. It helps us track clients on to our website and to turn that traffic into first leads, then nurtured prospects and finally customers. It is a complete service and so that enables us to efficiently do what needs to be done.

  • Social media management could improve but our needs are greater than your average business so likely sufficient for most companies.
  • CRM system I would prefer it to be baked in rather than needing the additional cost of Salesforce or Sugar. However these tools are so good at what they do that for any company that can afford both or has an existing CRM system that can be plugged into Act-On, - than why have a feature of Act-On that you do not use.
Act-On is simple to use but make sure you are going to have the appropriate resource in your business. Any marketing automation tool needs the right application. Fortunately Act-On's support is exeptional plus companies like mine can help you get the best results out of it.

We are a hybrid marketing and consulting company that makes companies become market leaders. As a key part of this, Act-On has to be used to help with the automation and lead management. It is used across our entire company and is recommended to all our clients.
  • Great user/ lead management and lead scoring.
  • Simple and efficient marketing automation process. An entire campaign could be produced in a couple of hours (emails, forms, assets and campaign flow).
  • Very simple to use. In the correct hands its a very powerful tool.
  • Landing page management is quite poor at the moment. They have just released a page builder so looking forward to seeing vast improvement once this is fully active.
Act-On is for businesses that have a well structured marketing plan. Small businesses who do not have the budget or experience will struggle to get its full worth.

We use Act-On to communicate (with donors, training customers and mariners) and to help build new relationships with our not-for-profit organization. We employ the software in development (fundraising) and in education—sending out newsletters and solicitations and creating landing pages and forms to collect information. The software helps us build engagement, foster community and get feedback.
  • Act-On offers WYSIWYG content creation.
  • Support staff (both in the implementation and maintenance phases) excels in meeting customer needs.
  • The metrics provided give non-profits insight into donors and potential donors.
  • As the primary marketing user, I can't always help my sales users navigate the platform because our screens look different.
  • Real integration with Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge would help our organization.
We believe Act-On is well suited for non-profits looking to measure engagement with messaging and content. It helps, too, when it comes time for follow-up.

We have implemented Act-On (after a failed attempt with another marketing automation program) to help us automate our sales and marketing process throughout the lead life cycle. Act-On is used by our sales and marketing team to prospect new leads and to nurture new, non-responsive or previously unqualified leads.
  • Salesforce integration. I'm able to accomplish everything that I need to accomplish seamlessly between Act-On and Salesforce.
  • Support. Our use of Act-On is probably fairly unique but every question or issue I throw at my customer success manager (Scott S., who is AMAZING) is always met with a convenient and innovative solution.
  • Automation. The automated programs are very intuitive and easy to set up, monitor and use.
  • Website Prospector. I've used other tools that are far more sophisticated in matching visitors with companies (instead of ISPs, which Prospector does more often than not) and in preserving a visitor's identity throughout their entire process (such as, linking an identity to an anonymous user once that user is identified via a form). I think it is probably heading in the right direction but at this point I think it's the feature that needs the most attention.
  • E-mail Templates. Templates are created through stationery, which while it would be very easy to use for a company sending out multiple identically-designed e-mails, is a bit cumbersome for more design-focused HTML e-mails. I'd love more flexibility with HTML and WYSIWYG HTML editing.
Act-On is a fantastic marketing automation solution if you are using Salesforce - for our needs, we chose it over Salesforce's own marketing automation program because of the flexibility of the two-way syncing. I would say if your company regularly needs to use marketing e-mails that are heavily HTML-focused that the editor may not have the flexibility you are looking for and may be cumbersome. I would strongly suggest a product demo to walk through the content editors, the prospecting and the automation setup to fully see the capabilities yourself. Most of the features are head and shoulders above other options we researched for our use.

Act-On is used in our sales and marketing department to increase our sales lead pipeline. Our company used to drive sales based on mostly referrals, but by using Act-On we've increased our pipeline 80%, gaining beachhead customers across the US so we can grow our business and our company's revenue.
  • The management of all our marketing contacts and how you can segment them to email different populations.
  • Being able to post something across all our social media sites just by creating the marketing piece inside of Act-On.
  • Creating emails and being able to do some design work, when I'm not a graphic designer!
  • Receiving a simplified marketing qualified leads reporting is an issue we are currently experiencing, but the team at Act-On is working hard to meet our needs.
  • Learning how to build drip campaigns seems overwhelming to me, but I'm sure if I practice it a couple times it would get easier.
  • Having to purchase WebEx Event Center in order to connect with Act-On for webinars and webinar marketing materials.
I've heard Act-On is a great starting off point for marketing automation or if you are a small to medium size company. I would look at additional platforms if the company is larger or more people are dedicated to marketing automation, reporting, etc.

Act-On is used primarily by marketing and sales as a tool to generate and communicate with leads. It helps us stay in contact with new and existing customers and drives brand awareness and education on our company's products. We are far from fully utilizing Act-On but are already realizing some of its benefits.

Act-On is fully capable of doing most functions expected of a marketing automation platform. For a small business, it has an enormous amount of potential to expand capabilities. The expansiveness of the possibilities is also what makes it difficult, making it difficult sometimes to know where to start. Act-On may be able to provide additional support advice in this regard. Additionally, integration with Microsoft Dynamics CRM is limited.

We use Act-On across the organization for our sales and marketing users. This platform has become an important tool for our organization, granting us the ability to not only identify potential leads but market to them in a more intelligent way based on their behavior and their persona. It addresses the problem of target positioning..no longer are we blindly marketing in the wind.
  • Act-On is incredible for behavioral scoring and audience segmentation. We can really peg down our prospects and who they are.
  • The updates to the landing page and e-mail creator are incredible. I can now create all my outbound marketing material in HTML 5 or even use their drag and drop builder.
  • The biggest strength of Act-On is the support staff. Don't know what they hell you are doing? Ask! They will set up time and walk you through any problem.
  • Act-On could have more dynamic options for automation programs.
  • I would really like to see automation templates built in to Act-On. With the millions of case studies they have it would be great to see some bare templates for renewal and drip campaigns.
  • Social integration (like Hootsuite) would be incredible for social selling.
It is great for B2B marketing. It seems to lack on functionality that is revolved around the channel in-particular, but otherwise I find this platform to exceed my expectations for an integrated marketing platform. Act-On also has great integration with Salesforce, putting the auto in automation - saves me a ton of time.

Act-On is being used by our organization to increase awareness among potential customers. We are a unique industry and are looking for unique ways to share our products and expertise. Act-On fit the bill perfectly by allowing us to implement the program without extensive training for our users. I've learned a lot in using it one year, looking forward to what's in store.
  • Ease of use - the interface is incredibly easy to use.
  • Extensive data reporting - everything we've ever wanted to compare and analyze is readily available with Act-On.
  • Customer support - due to the ease of use I haven't had many questions. But when I do, our Act-On rep is quick to help.
  • Data interpretation - the user interface is very easy, interpreting the results is still easy but the data can be overwhelming. I'm anticipating this to be easier and easier as I get more experienced with Act-On.
As far as I can tell there aren't key questions to answer. It's as simple as, if you have made the commitment to drip marketing and email campaigns, Act-On is for you!
