Namely is the HRIS for our company, from when we were under 50 employees to now over 150 employees. We use it for all Onboarding and document e-signature, all Managed Payroll Services, Benefits Administration & Brokerage, Training & Compliance, PTO tracking, other employee records, and Performance Management. We only are light users of it social components.

Namely is well-suited to a company with 1-2 HR Admins and 1-2 Finance personnel (for Payroll purposes), and with an attendant workforce of 50-250. Namely is a one-stop-shop for all HR needs, so is particularly helpful for leanly resourced HR functions. While it has some HR training modules, it's not at PEO level so requires an experienced HR leader at the helm ; but beyond that, many aspects of compliance, onboarding, payroll, training etc are largely automated and sycned across the platform, so works well for a lean HR team with a large employee base (both hourly, and salaried).

Our organization uses Namely for all our HR and payroll needs. This product addresses our business needs more than our previous provider by being more user friendly and having a more robust HR platform all in one system. The feed is especially useful for performance shoutouts and internal updates. There are some pieces that I feel do not live up to our previous provider, but there are also aspects that Namely has that are more beneficial than our previous provider. Overall, our employees enjoy Namely as users, and HR sees improvements with their side, but the payroll side could have a few more options to make the system better.
  • Prorations for salaried employees based on start dates
  • A feed for shoutouts, promotions, terminations, new hires, birthdays, and anniversaries
  • Automatic state and local taxes added based on employee address (a big plus for Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana)
  • Limits to custom reporting
  • No direct feed for Ohio Workers Comp (now a manual process on our end)
  • No option to place an employee on Leave of Absence and exclude them from payroll while they are "inactive"
  • No option to suppress certain deductions for certain pay types (i.e. allow 401K for commissions but block remaining deductions - also now a manual process to uncheck the suppress box for 401K for each commission check)
Namely is nice because it has everything all in one place: performance, applicant tracking through Greenhouse, payroll, time off, hourly timesheets, and benefits. From the payroll side, Namely is especially helpful for remote employers who have employees in multiple states, especially Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Namely will automatically update the payroll profile of the employee with the state and local tax for the work or home location, whichever the employer chooses. I have found a few mistakes with the local tax being assigned not matching the Ohio Tax Finder, but for the most part, it is accurate. It is also helpful that we can create multiple payrolls for multiple periods and they are included in the overall fee.

Security setting for our preparer and reviewing on the HR and payroll user functionally worked well when building out our SOX controls.

Namely is perfect for our small size company. It provided us a simplified way to manage our benefits, payroll and HR through custom workflows. These workflows flow through to payroll and auto adjust salary for our payroll team which simplifies our SOX controls. Namely support team also processes our RSU payments for our payroll team.

  • Social media type home page with birthdays and anniversaries
  • Easy to view employee information
  • Onboarding new employees
  • In benefits administration, in life insurance and disability sections, there's no option to include employees' bonuses as earnings. Therefore, employees' coverage and premiums are all incorrect.
  • Time off recorded in Namely Time does not transfer to HRIS, resulting in employees needing to enter their time off twice - in Namely Time and in their Time Off section of Namely.
  • In Namely Time, only the previous week can be copied into the current week. It would be helpful if time recorded could be copied to any week.
Namely is pretty easy to use, but there are some areas that could be improved. Namely Time could be more streamlined with Namely HRIS. Benefits administration is a little difficult to use.

We utilized Namely as our HRIS, globally for US and Germany. We did not utilize the payroll functionality or benefits, as we were also paired with a PEO. Namely helped us to keep all of our employees in one place, and to track changes to compensation, title, manager etc. We were also able to use it's functionality for performance reviews.
  • Very user friendly interface, for both employees and admins

  • had an HR dashboard (and relatively good reporting)
  • in my opinion, HORRIBLE performance review platform, we had a really hard time with it and would not recommend that you use this function
  • In my experience, poor customer service, difficult to get ahold of them when you need support
  • Capabilities are limited in comparison to other more robust HRIS systems
I would recommend Namely if you are looking for a cheap barebones place to maintain employee information. I would not recommend utilizing any of there additional services such as performance reviews, if you would like this feature I would partner with something like Lattice or Culture Amp to support this. Namely is also good for global data collection, Germany is not an easy country to hold data for and Namely was able to do this for us.

Namely is used across our entire organization - it helps consolidate all of our HR/payroll/benefits for employees.
  • Their interface is top notch - no disjointed modules.
  • They're constantly improving - we get a quarterly update on new features and they listen to feedback (and they're pretty good to start!)
  • Customer service is top notch - if we run into an issue - my problem is always solved in a timely manner.
  • The performance management module is great (and has lots of options for customization) - but the interface for setting it up could improve (still - very usable).
I think Namely is perfect for smaller businesses (under 100). I can't speak to larger organizations - but we've had so many fewer issues with payroll and benefits since switching to them (and we were with a large provider previously).

We use Namely for HRIS, payroll, time management, and benefits. This allows us to track the major aspects of the employee life cycle. The business problems addressed are employee data management, payroll, time management and benefits administration.

Namely is well suited to small and mid-sized companies; it is very cost-effective and allows us to meet most state reporting requirements. However, as our company grows, we find that it is not scaling well. Some process in Namely are still very manual, for example, demographic data transfer from the HCM side to the payroll side. It is fine when you have a couple new hires but as our numbers increase the manual data transfer can be very time consuming.

I currently use the HRIS tool and performance. I used to use payroll, benefits administration, and benefits brokerage as well, but we fell below 100, so we had to switch those services to a PEO for more competitive insurance rates. I have also used Namely at other companies for all of the above-mentioned services.

The review process was also wonderful and easily incorporated the necessary parties resulting in a concise overview of a teammate's performance. The goal-setting feature - while good conceptually - needs work. The individual and department goals do not speak to each other and do not speak to the organization's goals. If these were integrated and automated, it would make a world of difference to the value of this feature. Otherwise, it's a lot of manual updating and we stopped using it because of that.

We use HRIS and payroll. Payroll can be processed for US payroll and HRIS does an ok job tracking typical HR data points.

  • Reporting in general is lacking.

We use Namely across the company for HRIS, paperless Onboarding, Goals, and Performance Reviews. It provides efficiency and transparency for all team members and saves the HR team hours a month.
  • Cascading goals.
  • Goals integration into performance reviews.
  • Modern and professional paperless onboarding.
  • Ongoing improvements.
  • Customization options for performance reviews.
  • Customer support can always be improved. I find the level of knowledge of the support team is sometimes less than my own.

We used Namely as our HRIS system. It is extremely user-friendly, for both the employee population and the HR and Payroll teams. Some of our favorite aspects of the software include:
  • The numerous reporting features and dashboards.
  • The organization chart, complete with employee pictures; an especially nice feature for new employees to learn about the teams.
  • The onboarding feature, allowing new employees to complete HR-related "paperwork" online before their start date. Also love the E-verify feature.
  • The PTO accrual, request form, and history information was invaluable.
  • The ability to send a quick communication to all employees through Namely to their email was a feature we used often.
  • Namely's partnership with TimeClock Plus for timekeeping was another bright spot for us, especially because we need our employees to account for various tasks throughout the day and this timekeeping system was able to accommodate and it was easy for employees to navigate.
  • Namely provided excellent customer service and their response time was very good.
We would have continued to use Namely but we were acquired by a larger company and now use their HRIS. I miss Namely!
  • Payroll - easy to use and great partners to help with questions.
  • Timekeeping - the partnership with TimeClock Plus is an added benefit.
  • Reporting and Dashboards - easy to use, applicable filters, detailed turnover reports right at your fingertips.
  • Onboarding and E-verify - just a few simple steps and you are done!
  • The Performance Review function is challenging to set up. This is a great area of opportunity for Namely. It needs to be simplified and use direct, specific language as I messed up our Peer Reviews the first time.

Namely does a number of things for us.

Namely is our:
-HR management software.
-Time management and PTO management with an "on the go" cell phone app that our employees really like.
-Payroll management software.
-Our main company communication tool, that allows us to communicate with employees, recognize employee achievements, and then allows employees a vehicle to congratulate other employees for what they have accomplished.
  • Namely has helped with our COVID sick leave response. It has made a major difference both with the weekly payroll and the 941 tax filing
  • Keeping track of our multiple PTO plans. Thank goodness for Namely, I have shredded my old PTO spreadsheets.
  • Employees like the convenience of the cell phone app. As a payroll administrator, I like the Geo Tracking tool where I can see where some are when the clock is in or out.
  • The flexibility inside of the payroll system both as you are finalizing an employee profile and when you are processing payroll is a major advantage.
  • The reports I get out of Namely in Excel format work well for me.
  • The payroll reports are very flexible; however, the criteria that I used to create a report are nowhere to be found on many of the Excel spreadsheets.
Namely has fit well into our corporate environment. I credit that to the initial setup team from Namely and our team that was led by our HR Director.

Payroll day is always a day of challenges. With a combination of hard deadlines to get processing complete and the review of the data before the payroll information flows through the system. Complications such as management requiring a new pay code at the last minute which will involve submitting a case to Namely Support for guidance. The timely response from Namely Support made the day run smoother.

Namely has been used as a tool of employee management. It has been used by our HR and finance departments. HR info was saved in Namely. All the changes related to HR are addressed by Namely.
  • Sending out notifications to related parties for all the changes in Namely.
  • Timely: The notifications are sent out to the related parties quickly once HR completes the changes.
  • Avoids human errors when sending notifications via email.
  • User friendly; less training needed.
  • The system [was] slow sometimes.
  • Some reports can be designed for facility users such as weekly/monthly changes reports.
I would recommend that colleagues check info from Namely. The system is user-friendly [and] efficient.

We migrated to Namely for the HRMS functionality. Namely has been a great HRMS platform for SMB customers. It is easy to use and our employees have adopted it well. In addition, we migrated our payroll services as a cost-saving measure. It is very helpful to have all HR and payroll information so easily accessible.

I think Namely is a great product especially for companies with less than 250 users. It gives great visibility to all employees, easily manages onboarding and time off, and is easy to use. As you get above 250 users or if you are having extreme growth, it can be a little challenging due to the lack of recruiting features.

Namely is being used across our whole organization to address our HR, onboarding, PTO, goals, and performance evaluation needs, to list a few.
  • The Namely team is very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to the configurations and back-end of Namely.
  • Very good at communicating and always there to help with any questions or problems that arise- and always respond very quickly.
  • Certain features, like the goals section, for example, can't be cloned, whereas other features can.
  • The calendar doesn't allow for different time-off requests to be displayed in different colors- would be nice if you could choose a color for each time-off type so the calendar is easier to read at a glance.
  • Goals can only be tracked as a percentage completed rather than by entering in numerical data.
The Namely platform is very easy to use and navigate, plus it looks great! It has a social media look to it, and allows for quick and easy engagement with your staff, while also providing many needed HRIS functions, such as onboarding, time off requests, goals, performance evaluations, and so much more.

Namely is used company-wide as our HRIS system to manage employee benefits, payroll, personal data, and professional data. The organization also uses it as an engagement tool to allow employees to interact with each other and the greater business.
  • One Stop Shop - Employees are able to access personal/professional info, benefit info, and payroll info all in one place.
  • Ease of Use - Both administrators and employees are able to easily navigate the Namely system to complete tasks. A welcome change from other HRIS systems we have used as an organization in the past.
  • Continuous Improvement - Namely is committed to continuous improving their product and regularly sources feedback directly from clients to inform these improvements.
  • Reporting - Reporting capability has room for growth in terms of being able to build truly customized reports or point-in-time reporting, but they are making this a focus during 2021.
  • Performance Management - The goals and performance management cycle is clunky.
  • EDI Feeds - The file feeds for benefit connections needs work. The timeline to set up a new feed can sometimes take upwards of 6+ months.
Namely is a great HRIS solution for small to mid-sized companies who are in growth mode. Overall the system functionality meets all of our needs in the areas of HRIS, payroll, and benefits. One of the best features of Namely is the ease of use and opportunity for employee engagement. Since implementing Namely over 4 years ago, we have seen incredible levels of engagement within the Namely "newsfeed" and it has become central to our culture.
