We serve 26 companies (2 control groups). All companies use Ultipro's Time Management and Onboarding services and the payroll department uses Core as well as trains all managers on just what they need to use. UltiPro has saved us a tremendous amount of time in everything payroll and benefit related. It is very user friendly and even our most technically challenged managers are having a lot of success and positive feedback. The tours throughout the product are very useful when you just need a little reminder on how to do anything.
  • Frees up managers' time to interact more with customers and other employees.
  • The report writer is in plain English and has also saved the payroll department a lot of time as well as giving us the ability to quickly respond to outside requests for information.
  • We would like to have our actual quarterly and year end returns sooner. Right now we receive the returns approximately 5 weeks after the quarter has ended.
  • Sometimes when a person is rehired there are issues with their account being reactivated and we will have to send it in to support to fix the background.
Ultipro is well suited for large companies and any company that has union contracts or any type of complicated payroll. It is very customizable so it will do well with any industry. Companies that are growing would also find this software most appealing as it can quickly adjust to the growth.

We started with UltiPro in 2008 and will have it implemented in all of our North American locations later this year. Acquisitions are incorporated into UltiPro to make data collection easier at the corporate level.
  • All tax information is kept up to date and balancing is easier for the quarter and year end.
  • I can see all locations' payroll information and assist them with any problems they may be having. There is security to limit access to certain locations for other individuals.
  • An online chat screen is available if a payroll is open and immediate assistance is required. This is very beneficial in keeping a payroll moving forward in a timely manner. We have used it successfully several times.
  • The time and attendance is somewhat cumbersome, however there is a time reporting module that is easier to use. It was just not available when we implemented, so we chose to stay with time and attendance.
  • Business Intelligence reports are difficult to write at first, but once you get the hang of it the reports are easy to generate.
UltiPro is well suited for any size employer and is easy to use. They are one of the fastest growing payroll providers and seem to be doing it right. While they have been experiencing rapid growth, sometimes their resources are stretched thin, however, they have been hiring additional staff to respond to this growth. Their conference held each year in Las Vegas helps to keep me current on new releases and utilization of options that we may currently not be using. They have begun to offer hands on training at the conference which is very beneficial.

We use the Ultipro Software suite to support the core HR, Payroll, Succession Planning, and Performance Management processes.
  • Integration is a key component that links the various modules – eliminating repetition and enhancing efficiency.
  • The product works extremely well for mid-sized companies. The total cost of ownership is extremely reasonable.
  • Initially, as Ultimate was growing at an extremely fast rate, it was difficult for the support arm to keep up with all the new functionality. This is no longer the case and customer support is robust.
  • Perhaps, more quickly adopting user recommended functionality enhancements.
Ultipro is extremely functional and effective for mid-sized organizations. It is intuitive to use and quickly implemented without monumental hassle. Very large companies that have unique requirements may have unmet needs, but my organization has not found that to be the case.

We use Ultipro for our payroll, benefits administration, performance management, salary planning, time and attendance and recruitment needs. It is a one stop shop for all of our HRIS needs.
  • Salary Planning - ability to send out departmental worksheets with all relevant information on them, get approval and post new salaries to employee records with just a few clicks.
  • ACA recordkeeping - meets all requirements for ACA reporting, recordkeeping and tracking. Well designed and thought out flows.
  • Performance Management - ability to customize templates, schedule future appraisals, distribute mass appraisals, track developmental plans and goals.
  • Reporting - with a little practice the reporting capabilities are endless with this system.
  • eRecruitment seems a little disconnected from the Core application. I understand though that they are working on upgrades now.
  • When rolling out updates and new releases you have to make sure you ask a lot of questions as sometimes how the new functionality is described is accurate, but it does not give you all of the information that you need
A smaller company may not have a need for all of the functionality that it offers. It is an extremely robust product.

We implemented HR, Payroll, Recruiting & Onboarding and Benefits Open Enrollment and Life Events. It is being used by mainly HR and Payroll but we also have employee self-service so that employees are able to view their pay stubs and update personal information as well as tax and direct deposit. It helped us go almost paperless in Payroll and has allowed more visibility to employees of their information as well as managers.
  • It is super intuitive so non-tech savy people can use it very easily
  • The reporting is great.
  • They are always improving and enhancing the product.
  • Their people are GREAT!
  • Benefits Module - Especially Life insurance limitations to setup - Rounding rules do not work in OE.
  • Recruiting Module has some gaps that could be filled. Ultimate is working to improve the Recruiting module.
  • Training - Web courses are very lengthy. Would be nice to have them split into 2 hour blocks because it is difficult to block 4 hours at a time.
It is a great Payroll and HRIS system. There are some limitations in regards to Benefits so if a company has complicated benefit plans, UltiPro might not be the answer without a lot of customization. The Recruiting module is getting better but was much lacking when we first went live about a year ago.

  • GL Exports to enter payroll into our accounting software flow without any issues
  • Tons of reports are available and you are able to create your own reports as well

  • UTA support staff seems to change a lot for our company

We utilize Ultipro as our employee and management self-service portal. We run all payroll and benefits through Ultipro. We also use the performance and compensation management modules as well as the succession planning tools. Ultipro is an enterprise wide solution for us across the United States and we use portions of the system internationally.
  • The system is very easy to use for end users.
  • Since the system is SaaS, we don't need to handle any software updates. Ultimate does all of that for us and keeps the system up to date.
  • Ultimate Software keeps up with industry trends to keep features and functionality on pace or ahead of other similar solutions.
  • System security is very tight, however some of the security administration tasks are tedious and could be improved.
  • The compensation module is functional, however very basic. Features could be improved significantly, particularly for hourly employees and part-time work schedules.
  • Web based payroll needs to run faster for us to use. We still use the backoffice payroll product to process payroll in a timely manner.
Ultipro is an excellent employee and manager self-service product. It processes payroll and manages benefits efficiently. The performance management module and talent management features, including succession planning are easy to use and very useful. I think Ultipro can be well suited for a small-medium sized business as well as larger companies such as ours.

Over the course of the past six years we have implemented various components of the Ultipro system. We started with payroll processing and HR for overall employee tracking. We then systematically worked on implementing the UTM Time and Attendance system incorporating time clocks at various site locations, mobile technology for sites without networking and then finally developing electronic time sheets throughout the organization. The automated time and attendance system has allowed us to eliminate all paper forms for leave requests which are now fully automated. Other components that have been implemented include Open Enrollment and the new Recruiting Portal. We are now in the process of implementing workflow in order to further eliminate paper forms for employee changes, salary increases and terminations. We envision having the entire organization utilizing the Ultipro system for all payroll and HR processes by year end.
  • Has allowed us to automate processes that previously required lengthy manual tasks that included a multitude of forms.
  • The system maintains historical data in an easy and efficient means to gather information needed for reporting purposes.
  • We require a lot of cost allocations and the Ultipro system does an exceptionally good job along with providing an easy means to make adjustments as needed.
  • The system has an exceptionally powerful ad hoc reporting system using IBM Cognos which has allowed us to build customized and detailed reports as needed.
  • The system is still not fully migrated to the web and there are aspects and tasks which can easily be done in the backoffice which cannot be done as easily or at all on the web. This is frustrating and you would hope that when components transition to the web the same or increased functionality would be available.
  • System upgrades and enhanced features do not always roll out and become accessible to all end users as timely as we would like. This is especially true towards year end when updates are needed for open enrollment or year end processes and we always seem to be in the one of the last groups to get the needed upgrades.
  • Adding components can be a costly investment. Better pricing options would be beneficial especially for non profit organizations such as ours.
It all depends on what a company is seeking for in payroll and/or HR systems.

  • They really listen to their customers.
  • They continue to add new features
  • They have a lot of training classes and hands-on learning opportunities that really helped me do more as users.
  • I would like to have the ability to do mass updates for employee data besides just supervisor changes
  • When we move an employee from one company to another we have to re-enter their deductions which if an employee has a lot, could be very time consuming and/or missed in the process
  • In Business Intelligence it would be nice to have a search feature to quickly find what you're looking for, I spend a lot of time searching for less commonly used fields
If you're wanting to go more paperless this is a great software! Going from paper open enrollment to 100% electronic has been great! Having staff get their pay stubs, their W-2's and 1095's has saved us in postage fees and time. Staff can update their address, direct deposit, and W-4 in employee self-service so that has eliminated that paperwork too.

Our company moved from various instances of payroll to a fully consolidated and transparent global "hire to retire" employee lifecycle system. UltiPro allows us to create efficiencies, proactively audit and manage risk, aggregate our reporting and automate processes. UltiPro's Human Capital Management (HCM) solution spans our 40+ acquired companies representing diverse industries and states with unique compliance requirements.
  • Reporting. UltiPro provides over 400 standard reports and Cognos for any customized reporting needs. The reporting tool is robust and simple to use.
  • Training. UltiPro provides free training and free "refresher" training courses to all their clients either in-person or online.
  • User Friendly. Our employees think UltiPro is slick and super easy to use regardless if they are on a computer or on their mobile phone. Our admins can process payroll with a few clicks of a button. Super simple!
  • Networking. UltiPro employees are not just an extension of your team, but also like family. They are always happy like those people at Disney. I always joke that they drink the kool-aid and they share it with me also. They make technology fun.
  • Implementation. By far, UltiPro had the best implementation team that I have ever worked with. The key word is team. They provided us with enough knowledge and resources for implementation so that we could not fail.
  • Direct Deposit. It would be nice if they could separate direct deposit accounts for payroll and expense reimbursement. Ex. If 50% of pay goes to checking and 50% to savings. Then 50% of expense reimbursement also goes to checking and 50% to savings.
  • Support Ticket System. While I appreciate the email communication, I wish there was either a link in UltiPro to open a ticket or check status OR wish that there was a link in my email that directs me back to the ticket system.
  • Benefit enrollment. Open Enrollment was a tad difficult to configure, but easy for employees to navigate. More importantly, I wish the OE messaging could carry over from year to year.

Ultipro is our HRIS solution for the company. We use it for all HR and payroll functions - recruitment, on-boarding, payroll, benefits, talent management, performance management, time management, compensation management and succession management. All administrators are in the HR/payroll department but managers have reporting access as well. Everyone in the company uses Ultipro for time management, leave management, open enrollment and performance reviews.
  • Business intelligence and reporting. This was our main reason for choosing Ultipro. The reporting capabilities are robust, easier to use than other providers and are more technologically advanced. They understand the KPI's that we need to track and evaluate.
  • Configurability. Ulti is very flexible on allowing clients to build their own fields based on their company needs, and you can actually report on those fields! And you aren't as limited to where you add a field - most (if not all, haven't found one yet that can't) modules and windows can be configured.
  • Responsiveness to client requests and ideas. Ultipro has implemented features at the request of clients and it is great to see that they welcome the feedback and work hard to incorporate the ideas to help us manage our business better.
  • Rapid response - the payroll critical tech support is fast, knowledgeable and efficient. You don't have to worry about missing your deadline.
  • We struggled with the general ledger coding, but only because we have a complicated GL and we didn't have access to code it ourselves. Ultimate fixed that in 2015. They opened up the GL to their clients last year. Now that we can update and revise our own GL coding, we have no issues with GL!
  • Customer service. The customer service model is excellent as you have one dedicated service rep. You can build a relationship with one person instead of being bounced around to multiple reps and whoever happens to be answering that day/time. We did not like our previous providers process of "press 1 for HR, press 2 for payroll, press 3 for tax." Sometimes you think you have a payroll question and it turns out to be tax - or you know it is a payroll question but the payroll person transfers you to tax! We used to have a lot of frustration with our previous provider's tech support solution. The only draw back to Ultimate's customer service model is that if your one dedicated rep is new or less knowledgeable it can be frustrating to feel like you are training them or that it may take longer for a solution. Fortunately you do have the ability to escalate to your next level customer service rep.
  • We have found some limitations within the compensation model as to the pro-ration rule not working properly. I understand they are working on that, but our annual wage increase process ended up being more cumbersome as we had to do some manual manipulation. Looking forward to that module being upgraded.
  • Ultimate needs to get the mobile app up and running, especially for the ATS portion in recruitment. Feedback from candidates say that applying through a handheld device is not user friendly. I understand this is being developed now.
  • Another compensation related comment. Managers should be able to see their employees compa-ratios, pay grade and ranges at all times. Right now they can only see them when we have a task assigned (annual salary increases for example). This is something that should be easily accessible always.
UltiPro is definitely well suited to corporate environments where the majority of your staff are using computers daily. As with any electronic solution, it is harder to implement with manual labor type jobs. Ultimate needs to work on their mobile app solution for traveling employees accessibility. We have been able to take all of our manual processes and convert them into electronic with Ultimate. Some work arounds maybe, but so far nothing impossible. Even though there is room for improvement Ulti is by the far the best solution I have ever worked with.

Nov 2018 Update: I have used Ultipro now at two different organizations. One that used the Enterprise solution, and more recently another that used only Core. Ultipro continues to thrive by implementing innovative customer suggestions and implementing stellar upgrades with their Spring/Fall releases. I love that Ultimate Software is making Core more like BackOffice, in that Core is now able to handle a lot of the heavier things once possible only to experts and Ultipro account managers, all while providing the awesome customer support that Ulti is known for!

April 2016: Ultimate Software's UltiPro is so simple to use, that I'm raving about it to my former colleagues! I've used other platforms for payroll, but UltiPro is by far the simplest to use. Did I mention that it's easy to use?

My organization uses UltiPro for Payroll and Benefits, for Onboarding and ad-hoc reporting, and uses Ultimate Software's Payment Services to file and pay our taxes and wage garnishments. I love that the product is web-based, accessible from anywhere, and that it really is very simple to navigate and to work with, that it seems as though it covers everything and anything that you can possibly think of. They truly listen to their customers, too. For instance, if you come up with an idea to improve the platform, you can share them with Ulti and they'll get right on it and if it makes sense, they implement it!

  • Tax and wage statements, as well as the new 1095C reporting available online for all users.
  • Quick processing of payroll, simple execution of benefits and open-enrollment, great reporting suite.
  • Technical support and training available at all times.
  • Online and on-site training available for all sorts of learning paths.
  • Impactful integration of Ultipro with Cognos Business Intelligence.
  • Easy to use Onboarding.
  • No cons. Absolutely the best HCM platform I've used!

Nov 2018 Update: I've had the opportunity to use UTM--Ultipro Time Management in the U.S. and it seems to rival Kronos' suite quite well. Distinctively, it handles complex timekeeping rules (OT: California, hint hint!, and other qualms brought on by each state's labor departments). And I've also seen UTM used effectively across the pond, working really well in EMEA (especially in the United Kingdom) and APAC (India a plus!)

April 2016: UltiPro gets the job done! Not only can Human Resources use it for Onboarding and processing new hires, but all employee information flows so well into Payroll and benefits. It's easy to assign security roles based on multiple prompts and controls. The web-based platform is ideal for most, and it's "BackOffice" Citrix-based window portal is powerful as well, ideal for more advanced users.

I'm well-versed in tax and unemployment, handling all state and federal reporting in-house, so it's great to see that UltiPro offers this service for those who might be overwhelmed with each state's monthly/quarterly reporting requirements, and they do a good job of working with you to ensure that all taxes are paid and reported on time.

Small accounting departments need the support of a tax team to process and file their tax documents, so the team can focus on other accounting functions of the company. An app is a great tool for employees to have access to their payroll, tax, and time-off information.

We use UKG Pro company-wide as our primary payroll and time management system. Additionally, we take advantage of its full HRIS reporting suite to process taxes, PPACA reporting, EEO reporting, Workers' Compensation reporting. Recently, we have added performance management and learning management products.
  • Customer service is fantastic—their rapid response team addresses problems quickly and accurately. They are patient and work well with users of all experience levels.
  • Implementation of their products is painless—dedicated implementation specialists work with you through the entire process.
  • The BI reporting functions are best in class.
  • Occasional system quirks—such as the lack of an "undo" function when terminating in the core.
  • Role administration can be cumbersome depending on your org structure.
UKG Pro is perfectly suited for organizations with 1-5000 employees with single or multiple locations. It seems best suited for private sector employers and may not be appropriate for very large organizations which utilize more enterprise software.

We use UltiPro across our organization. We use Time Management for in/out punches, PTO request, etc. The other modules we use are Recruiting, Onboarding, Talent Management, Compensation Management and CORE. Out managers have the ability to review applicants and disposition in Recruiting. Last year we began launching our Performance Reviews to employees. This has been a favorite feature! This year we launched Salary Planning. We are in the midst of it, but it has been very well received.
  • Employees are easily able to access and maintain their personal, benefit, and payroll information.
  • As a HR professional I love the work flow with Recruiting and Onboarding. It is super intuitive and works very well. I love the document section as well.
  • The customer service is very responsive. Whether I put in a case or call the 1-800 number, I almost always get a quick reply to my problem.
  • UKG is constantly updating and improving features. For example, this year they allowed the user to submit State UI rate changes by entering the change and uploading the notice. The change was approved within 24 hours! In the past you would have to submit a case, and it would take a long time for the change to occur since UKG had to do the manual data entry. Great upgrade!
  • Honestly, I can't think of any at this time. I love the regular updates and the communication on what has changed.
As a HRIS system I love it! Open Enrollment is a breeze! The payroll works super smooth once your file feeds are set up. The ease of being able to see all of an employees information without having to dig out a paper file is a life saver.

UKG is used for everything from the moment a candidate applies until after their separation and everything in between across our entire organization. It is used integrated with our most common job posting services (Indeed and LinkedIn), it encompasses our entire recruitment effort and module, all of our onboarding, hiring, benefits, payroll, BI for reporting purposes... I'm not sure what functions exist that we are not utilizing within our organization.
  • They are really focused on meeting the customer's needs even when they're needy (sometimes us when we perceive something as urgent).
  • They are solution-driven, helping solve a problem through trouble-shooting by fully understanding what the accomplished goal is, and how to attain it.
  • They are very experienced and knowledgeable in the categories we need assistance with.
  • The system is extremely reliable with little if any down time.
  • Cognos analytics can be a bit tricky to use and it takes a minute to really understand how to build reports.
  • Some minor annoyances seem to not be addressed and the perception is they aren't important enough to fix (e.g. opening the Onboarding link can sometimes prompt the user to login instead, forcing them to close the tab and try again).
  • Recruitment seems to not be able to re-open closed opportunities. Instead of being something that we use as a tool, we find that we are having to work around this particular feature.
UKG is best and thrives in an environment where it is fully integrated. While I am not entirely sure because I have not experienced it, UKG seems less appropriate if the customer is not ready or willing to fully integrate.

We use UKG across the company to manage our people basically from start to finish. We utilize UKG recruiting, onboarding, and performance reviews. Time-keeping, payroll, and training. Benefits and reporting all run through UKG.
  • UKG is really good at seamlessly transitioning people from applicants to employees. They have a variety of partners in the recruiting gateway to assist in getting candidates in the door.
  • From an administrative point of view, the time management system is well designed and easy to use.
  • Customer service is usually spot on. If I call the rapid response line, I am usually greeted by someone eager and willing to help. If they don't have the answer, they put me in touch with someone that does.
  • Offer letters in the recruiting gateway should be editable after they are sent!
  • I would like to be able to hire a person from a closed job posting rather than having to create a whole new requisition for one person.
For a company our size or larger, I would recommend UKG. Compared to ADP, it is way more user-friendly and robust. However, it may not be ideal for a small business because it is super expensive. I have sticker shock every time we receive a bill.

Implemented as HRIS system that is being used at corporate level and all subsidiary companies. Subscription to this product helps us handle onboarding and payroll process much more efficiently as well as provide uniform method to track and administer employee benefits.
  • Integration of the various modules of their product has been done very well. Availability of options for timekeeping, performance reviews, and benefits administration work very well together.
  • Availability of live support resources that we can speak to through their Rapid Response case submission process has been very helpful. There are also a wealth of support resources available online.
  • Business Intelligence resource for obtaining existing standard and customized reports is also very powerful.
  • Could have better option available for reviewing historical employee information like previous address or contact information.
  • When description is updated for benefit deduction code for new period, the new description applies to all previous records associated with the updated benefit deduction code.
Product has a good option for setting up benefit open enrollment period and tracking and monitoring employee progress. Appreciate the built-in versatility to deliver customized messages to employees and have supplemental materials available for download. As a variety of legislative mandates were enacted as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, UKG had good communication process to inform customers of what was being done and what resources were being provided to facilitate compliance and reporting.

UKG Pro currently is being used by the HR department as the HRIS and the payroll department for processing payroll. Aside from standard W2, W4, Org Charts, and paystubs for employees, there isn't currently much self-service from a whole organization perspective.

There are plans to expand our self-service for transfers, promotions, salary increases, and skills review. Additionally, we plan to create dashboards for certain levels of managers.
  • Employee Data Management - The system is a fantastic HRIS.
  • Payroll - The payroll process is straightforward and simplistic.
  • Configurability - The system is easy to configure and implement.
  • Business Process Configuration - The system allows for easy configurations to match business needs.
  • Workflow Configuration - Easy workflow designs for business processes.
  • Mobile Functionality - HRIS Access via app or web.
  • Login as Employee - I do not understand why I cannot login as an employee as an HR admin. I have in other business systems and HRIS's so this is a must have.
  • Reporting - Cognos is great, but takes a lot of getting use if you aren't familiar with it.
  • Org Chart - Customization of Org Charts would be nice. Different backgrounds, ability to set order of direct reports, etc.
Pros:
  • An affordable HRIS and Payroll platform, that are easy to use and integrate with.
  • The ability to track global employees, while keeping in mind laws related to those regions.
  • Flexibility in configurations to account for different business models/processes.
  • Vast API library for ease integration setups.

Cons:
  • "Easy to use reporting system" - Learning curve for reporting from Cognos.
  • "Personalized Benefits Solutions" - Benefits Prime functionality seems limited in terms of customization.
  • "All access for Admin" - Admin access to employee view is non-existent.

  • The new left side menu is difficult to use and to find what you're looking for; the old menu was more condensed which made it easier to find what you were looking for.

Utilized across the whole organization. We have created so many business efficiencies on Time Management, Payroll, Reporting, Payment Services, Performance Management, Recruiting/Onboarding, Compensation Management, Employee Admin, etc.
