What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Marketo is our primary marketing automation platform. It acts as the central engine for most lead processes like enrichment, scoring, other business rule updates, and integrations with other platforms in our tech stack. In conjunction with Bizible, it provides a multi-touch program attribution for our reporting as well. It also acts as our primary email platform.
  • Email Marketing.
  • Web Form Integration.
  • SFDC Integration.
  • Automated Campaigns.
  • An easier way to export historical performance data to long-term storage.
  • Campaign canvas where we can design flowchart-like flows.
  • Better advertising campaigns support/features.
  • An easier way to see a list of people that opened and clicked an email.
Marketo is well-suited as a marketing automation platform for email campaigns, SFDC integration, and lead automation. It's easy to launch emails, landing pages, and forms through Marketo. However, for analytics and advertising campaigns, it could be better. We utilize 3rd party integration platforms like Zapier to connect Marketo to Linkedin Lead gen forms as we need to insert business logic prior to lead gen form data flowing through to Marketo.

We send out discretionary campaign emails to customers/patients, reminding them of upcoming webinars and in-person events that will help them learn more about Medicare and how it impacts them.
  • Interface is user intuitive
  • Clean layout and design
  • Icons and design are pleasing to the eye
  • Some of the areas on screen are difficult to know what is "clickable"
  • I've noticed a slow processing time to approve and schedule emails
I think it is user-friendly and a good platform for discretionary campaigns

we use personalisation and automation for lead generation and constant communication. We tried using it for events however it didnt meet our needs and had to get a separate events management tool. Usability is easier than other email automation tools and learning for staff is quicker
  • Easy UI for staff
  • Integration with Salesforce
  • web forms for websites
  • Connection with GA
  • Plugins that other automation tools readily provide like Pardot
  • new features are slow to come by
It is well suited for B2B communication, smart lists and forms.
We needed it for events comms too but it didnt fit our needs.
However it's not so good for tracking visitors through GA on websites

We use Marketo Engage to communicate to our members and prospects regarding their membership, or upcoming events and promotions. In this mode we use personalization and automation regarding onboarding and renewing. We additionally do a lot of emailing around our live events and publications.
  • Building targeting lists "smart lists" with information within the platform
  • Creating automated Drip campaigns based on timing or events
  • Lead Scoring setup is easy to build out and incorporate into lifecycle campaigns
  • Their Analytics features are either so slow they are unusable, or they provide the bare minimum functions. (Ex cannot do any type of Frequency analysis or anything it is very cumbersome)
  • Landing page and Email editor is outdate and extremely old. Missing many new features and functions available at other ESPs and you cannot auto append Tracking parameters (EX Google or Adobe Campaign Codes)
  • Can only integrate 1 data source so multiple siloed organizations have challenges
As a marketing tool for automation and targeting the ease of Marketo makes it a tool I really enjoy. It has some limitations around simple things that could be addressed to make it on par with other ESPs on the market (Auto appending tracking better more flexible Landing page and Email templates).

Marketo helps in various campaigns and making marketing decisions in the organization. The campaign creation, campaign execution and analytics is tracked with ease by the product. It helps to resolve the issues related to initial campaign release and tracking. The automation support and API helps to integrate with other Adobe Experience cloud products as the organization is more focused on using Adobe Experience Cloud for marketing necessities. The leads and conversion provided by Marketo is very essential for the proper revenue generation
  • Campaign Exection
  • Lead Generation
  • Conversion Analytics
  • Ease of operation
  • Easiness to integrate with third party products
  • API Capabilities
  • AI capabilities
It is well suited for proper campaign execution and conversion. There is a scope of integration support for other third party products, which can be improved

I use Adobe Marketo Engage on a daily basis. Often I create email or landing page templates for various companies to use within their Adobe Marketo Engage instance. I support other companies in developing Adobe Marketo Engage emails, forms and landing pages as well as direct and answer to their technical needs.
  • Capture lead data
  • Allows the freedom to create your own templates
  • Provides a robust playground for marketing automation
  • Update the functionality of landing pages
  • Update the functionality of forms
  • Update the functionality of tokens
When creating an email to send to all your audience Adobe Marketo Engage does a great job. You can create a/b tests of an email to see which email type performs better based on whatever you want. Adobe Marketo Engage forms do an awesome job at capturing lead information and is very easy to implement.

We use Marketo for multiple marketing automations. We use it to run customized marketing campaigns composed of emails and landing pages, build custom forms, track user details with link tagging and analytics, and we sync all of our user data from interactions back to our Salesforce CRM instance. That way, we can track marketing interactions tied back to contacts in our sales cycle.
  • Customized "Smart" lists to filter data
  • Syncing to CRM tools like Salesforce
  • Running recurring, automated processes
  • Email metrics (filtering out bot clicks)
  • better management of duplicate contacts
  • If you have time and resources to invest in fully setting up your Marketo instance to integrate with your other tools & processes, it can be very valuable. Especially if you have a large company with many customers/prospects. You can run recurring, automated processes that will all work in the background.
  • If you go to a lot of events and tradeshows, you can do organized list uploads from everyone you talked to at the event in order to track those marketing interactions and touchpoints.
  • You can run custom email campaigns with built in landing pages and forms to collect user info.

We use Marketo mainly for a broad range of marketing automation. We used it to build several nurturing streams to nurture people who completed soft conversion on the website. We also use Marketo for all our web forms, follow-up flows and programs for that kind of tasks. We use reports and analytics sometimes.
  • Very professional
  • A big amount of options
  • Performance
  • Analytics
  • Reporting details
  • Ease of first use
Marketo is very suitable if you would like to design your own marketing automation programs to interact with you audience in the most personal way. You can really go all in on customization, but keep in mind that this requires marketing efforts. You really need different types of content for each persona if you want to do it the right way. In comparison to other tools Marketo is very detailed.

We use Marketo to send out all our marketing emails. This includes newsletters, webinar and event invitations, links to resources on our webpage, and drip/nurture campaigns. We send out B2B emails, but also internal communications. We typically send out, on average, 2 emails a day to multiple audiences. We use scoring models to nurture a lead to MQL status.

  • There are many times when Marketo runs very slow, which can significantly affect productivity
  • The modules/templates need to be more user-friendly - if you're not a web designer, or have access to one, they're tough to work with
Marketo is, for the most part, very user-friendly. It's laid out in a way that even a first-time user can figure out how to use it in about six months or less. For me, the cloning feature is easily one of the best-designed and executed features. We use it all the time which cuts out a lot of extra time.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage to drive perpetual Marketing for our organization. We are a large organization with a lot of SKUs and personas. Adobe Marketo Engage helps us personalize the journey for people from different personas based on their firmographics and interests. We have more than 1.5 M active records in our database and Adobe Marketo Engage helps in managing marketing to those and at the same time ensuring all the Marketing insights gets synced to our Sales platform, i.e., Salesforce as well. We do a lot of complex nurture, email send programs, and event programs for driving our organization's marketing and Adobe Marketo Engage helps very well in all our use-cases.
  • Email Sends
  • Reporting
  • Personalization
  • Lead Management
  • CRM Sync
  • Custom Buyer Journey Setup
  • Segmentations
  • User Interface could be improved a bit
  • Resources should be made more practical oriented; the documentation is text heavy and difficult to go through for new users
  • Support team should be more responsive
Adobe Marketo Engage is very well suited for B2B email marketing, persona management, and lead tracking use cases. With its ability to customize almost everything, it's super convenient for all types of customization, integrations with bespoke platforms, etc. Adobe Marketo Engage also has a lot of tools for email personalization and out of the box reporting setup is also good. Adobe Marketo Engage has a relatively steep learning curve and new users/users who aren't very tech-savvy may find it difficult to get adapted to it.

We use Marketo Engage to run email campaigns and target prospects. It allows our company to connect with our CRM and export contacts lists easily and efficiently so we don't have to spend all day setting up individual campaigns. We use it on a weekly basis at this point and I foresee us continuing to use it more in the future.
  • Automation
  • Marketing workflows
  • Segmentation
  • Mail blast tools
We use Marketo for a number of situations. I'd recommend it for: Segmentation, Workflow Automation and Webinar Integration
But really the most common goal is to bring awareness & consideration to the prospects by using all the technology options that Adobe Marketo Engage provides to us. I would recommend for all the scenarios listed above.

Scope: We use Marketo to send emails and run marketing campaigns in a mainly B2B market. <br>Business Problems Addressed by Marketo - <br><ul><li>Mass Email Engagement</li><li>Form Fills</li><li>Contact Mangament </li></ul>
  • Emails
  • Content Storage
  • Smart List Creation
  • UI (needs updating feels like im using windows 95')
  • Customer History (really difficult to access easily)
  • Reporting Analytics Tools lack any useful functionality
Marketo is a very good program for running email campaigns, that's pretty much it. In my opinion it lacks any decent reporting tools, is very difficult to use if you are not familiar with the software. The support articles online are okay but need to be updated and improved, the support forums are far better for finding answers. In my opinion, this software is poorly suited for setting up dynamic campaigns requires way to much work to set them up. Doing simple things like A+B tests for emails is a headache. Campaign reporting is really poor if you don't set things up right in the beginning of the campaign you will find yourself in hot water later when trying to review campaign performance. Marketo feels like a big Frankenstein of different tools and modules, each individual component feels like it was created in a vacuum with no thought about interacting with the larger system. Also I know I said it already but the user interface is very unfriendly and restrictive if you are not computer savvy.

We used Adobe Marketo as our marketing Automation tool especially for email marketing. We used for data segmentation, creating multiple webinar programs, personalized nurture programs and the best part is it's built in Analytics for better reports also easy to build email templates, landing pages and forms. We also used Lead scoring, A/B testing. For personalized emails we used predictive content which was excellent and no other tool has this feature.
  • Nurture programs
  • Predictive content

  • Lead scoring
  • Better interface
  • Easy navigation
  • More support documents
For any company which has larger audience to reach with more personalized and automated content. In my experience it is well suited for email marketing Automation and audience segmentation and dynamic/predictive content also the type of nurture programs. It doesn't suit for smaller organisations because it's costly also they can start with smaller automation tools.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage for our customers. They usually have it for a few years and lost their administrator so we come in. In my opinion, the platform is very complicated and cannot be used without proper training. Adobe Marketo Engage do give you the ability to create almost any flow but I believe it takes months to get it to a working phase. Once it is up and running we train someone on their team but in my opinion it never enough since Adobe Marketo Engage does not have a good customer support to help them with on going problems.

If you don't have an employee that is an admin you won't be able to use it to the fullness. You will also need extra platforms for templates (emails and LPs). If you do have an admin you'll be able to use it and be able to maintain the system. Even an admin will have to use the support from other users out there especially the community that can help but do not expect help from Adobe Marketo Engage support team, it is very slow process and cannot help you with the day to day tasks.

Marketo was our MAP at my previous org. It was chosen to replace a MAP more suited to smaller orgs and we wanted to use an Enterprise level platform. All of our marketing activities were run through Marketo eg. Email, events, social etc.
Marketo is simply the best platform on the market for marketing automation, particularly if you use SFDC too. Don’t be fooled by the old fashioned interface. It can do almost everything.
  • Lead management
  • Segmentations
  • SFDC sync
  • Organisation at scale
  • Analytics. Reporting is the one area that Marketo needs to be stronger in
  • Interface. It’s always a hard sell internally due to looking like something from the 90s.
100% recommend for larger SMB and Enterprise orgs wanting a complete and flexible MAP.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage for all of our email communications to our customers and prospects. This includes sending out promotional emails, nurturing existing customers, and reaching out to ex-customers. We also use this platform to create program flows that automate our email sequences. This has helped us get the word out there about our products and offerings.
  • Sending out bulk emails
  • Extracting reports
  • Creating complex campaign logics
  • Creating holistic campaigns with emails, forms, landing pages, etc.
  • No new significant functionality in the last 5 years
  • Interface is outdated and not intuitive
  • No templated flows unlike other platforms
  • Limitations of smart list pull out
Marketo is very much well-suited for Enterprise accounts that have a huge database. In our case, we are sending out emails to almost 100k records on a daily. If we use a different platform, we'll be charged way higher for such a large number of daily releases. With Marketo, our subscription allows us to send as many emails as we want.

We use Marketo to create Marketing Automation programs for prospects and customers. We send emails via Marketo, run smart campaigns, create nurture programs, host webinars, pull data, and more. Marketo allows us to create thoughtful programs to engage with our customers and prospects. For my team specifically, it is our primary communication channel to reach customers.
  • Marketo is very flexible - we can pull in a lot of data and use it for segmenting
  • Marketo allows you to easily add in your branding and create polished assets
  • As an end user - Marketo is particularly easy to learn and master once you practice
  • Marketo has service degradations a lot - more than other tools I've noticed!
  • It's hard to use dynamic content in emails - similar tools let you use Smart Lists for dynamic content in emails, but you need to use Segments in Marketo and it's an awkward experience
  • It is hard to tell sometimes why your emails didn't deliver/go through. It can take some deep investigation and is never simple
Based on my experience, Marketo is great for a medium to large sized company. It can handle large amounts of our data and is not too challenging to learn. This is particularly helpful if you have a large team of marketers using the tool and who need to be experts. I only took a number off of my rating for the recent large amount of outages/service degradations that have been happening.

I run marketing campaigns to clients and prospects and use Marketo to create landing pages for our website, send emails, and track engagement. Being able to pull reports to track engagement on landing pages and emails has been a game changer since we're able to connect this to our leads database and look at who our sales teams should be paying attention to. For instance, if a prospect is clicking into all of our emails and engaging with content that leads them to landing pages and engaging in content there as well, they're someone to look out for.
  • Engagement reporting
  • Email building/formatting
  • Support & Tutorials
  • Landing page building - must turn modules on and off to edit
  • Naming requirements for emails can be limiting
I would say sending emails to specific lists is a big part of what I use Marketo for. The software makes it easy to build off pre-determined templates (our teams use this to keep basic formatting and branding consistent) or completely create a new email. Tracking is also easy with hyperlinks and CTA buttons since you can track who clicks what and how recipients are engaging with your content (click rates, open rates, unsubscribe rates, etc). If you need to send out emails to large lists and track engagement, Marketo is great for that.

We used this product to release newsletters and announcements, it addressed a communication problem to university affiliates and associates. I once used it to send to about 30k folks for an event we were hosting. We’ve been able to reach consistent followers and stakeholders via Marketo.

We use it and we help our customers use it. In my opinion, as long as Marketo will keep their horrible non existence customer service we will keep migrating customers to other options out there. Marketo can be good for companies that have in house developers, designers, and a dedicated Marketo employee. We use it as the email marketing platform for our company. We create email flows, design templates and modify code. We have to do our own versioning of our templates on a git-based platform outside since Marketo doesn't do this. The UI unfortunately looks like it was from the 2000s of web and is rather unintuitive but gets the job done once you become familiar with the platform. From an engineering perspective Marketo uses velocity templating language which is a Java-based templating engine so it's got a learning curve and is a bit of a pain to use. But the integration with the tokens of user variables is convenient for each user and testing and saving users is also convenient to do.<br><br>I would love it if had some sort of foundational email library so that we can ensure our emails work with Outlook Desktop because that is still a pain to debug and manage separately.
  • Email campaigns
  • Design and preview email templates
  • Create and save users for testing emails
  • Unintuitive UI
  • Dated Velocity Templating Language
If you want customized emails you can do anything under the sun but you also have the pain of having to test and ensure it works on every email platform (I'm looking at you Outlook Desktop client). There must be some way for Marketo to integrate and allow you to test this more easily.

We use it to make our communication automated and to track the generation of leads. We also use it to mature our leads with the scoring function in order to mature them into prospects. Globaly marketo is doing a great job for us, the only drawback is the text editor which often messes up the html code making it difficult to create perfect mails/landing pages.
  • Run automated compaigns
  • Track KPIs
  • Ameliorations possibilities with API
  • Text editor in mail / Landing pages
It's doing the job pretty well since our utilisation is only for automated marketing, it's really easy to import people with the list/smart list system and we have a very wide range of decision on who to target thanks to the batch / trigger system. Didn't really encounter scenarios where it was less appropriate for our use case.
