What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. Marketo sits at the center of our Martech stack. It collects engagement data from multiple systems (e.g., Intercom, Oktopost), aggregates it at lead level and send it further downstream to the CRM and other analytics tools.

We use it for outbound email marketing campaigns, lead management and privacy management. We send out dynamic emails with 100+ variations, curated for our prospect's interests.
  • Email Marketing Campaigns
  • Lead Scoring
  • CRM Integration
  • Custom API Integrations
  • Dynamic Email Scripting
  • CRM Integration Customization
  • Customer Support
Marketo excells at dynamic personalized email campaigns (allowing for velocity scripts), template management and workflow management overall. Most appropriate for B2B marketing, and less appropriate for B2C, high-frequency, large bulk email campaigns.

Reviewing individual records in the database is fairly easy, but the reporting features are not sufficient. Additional reporting capabilities need to be built.

We use it daily for lead routing, forms on our website and integration into SFDC. We also use it for nuturing leads who have engaged with marketing collateral online
  • Lead Nurturing
  • Website forms
  • Progressive profiling
  • The UI is not the best
  • Load times for big data sets
  • UX improvements
For larger, high volume businesses Marketo offers a comphrehesive toolkit, for smaller business it is a bit over complicated.

We use Marketo Engage for lead management on our cloud product and across the organization. Specifically for keeping track of sign ups and syncing to Salesforce. This is done through an integration with Segment.
  • Salesforce Sync
  • Lead Database
  • Segment Integration
  • In my opinion, the UI is confusing, slow, and often has bugs
  • Integrations are unclear for testing and tracing
  • Navigation has a lot of room for improvement
  • Lead duplication is not easy to manage
  • User traits are difficult to manage with existing schema
  • Permissions are not easy to understand
From an engineering perspective, it's difficult to understand the context when Marketo should be used. It seems to handle Salesforce syncing pretty well, and keeps information up to date between the two. If we're talking about a direct user to lead generation pipeline, it feels like an unnecessary middleman. Again this is from engineering, and I don't fully understand the business context of it. I'd choose a different product or build our own lead generation pipeline over integrating it as a tool, as it's just caused unnecessary confusion and wasted a lot of dev time debugging issues.

I help other companies get the most out of their investment in Marketo, advising on how to properly use the platform across their organization. Clients will often come to my company inquiring about best practices for a variety of different processes, from lead scoring to understand attribution. As a consultant working on the platform side of the house, we split work between building out operational programs in Marketo, dissecting integration issues with other platforms, and doing QA on those builds.
  • Integrations with other platforms
  • Record history of people records
  • Capability of smart lists
  • Visuals for smart campaigns
  • More capabilities in Design Studio
  • More advanced capability with smart campaigns
Marketo is best suited for large enterprise organizations with databases larger than 500,000 in my opinion and over 1,000 employees working for the company. In my experience, Hubspot has been better for smaller organizations than the thresholds I mentioned. Marketo has stronger processing power than Hubspot, so when large email sends or smart campaigns in which many people qualify are going to be run by your company, I would recommend Marketo.

Adobe Marketo Engage was used in our Organization to address our B2B & B2G Customers in a wide range, with different email schedules, but also allowed our staff to not have to follow up.
  • Marketing Software
  • Easy to Use & Manage UI
  • Simple Directions for Management
  • S/MIME Emails
  • Allowing Integration with other CRM's
Adobe Marketo Engage is well suited for B2C customers, as you can always send out "Promotional Items". Marketo Engage isn't fully suited for B2B customers, as it still has the "feel" of promotion instead of "business".

I have been using Adobe Marketo Engage for many years now, and it has proven to be a valuable tool for our marketing efforts. We primarily use it for email marketing, lead generation, and lead nurturing. The platform's automation capabilities have allowed us to streamline our processes and target our messaging more effectively. One of the main business problems that Adobe Marketo Engage addresses for us is the ability to segment our audience and personalize our communications. The platform's lead scoring and lead nurturing features have also helped us to better identify and engage with our most valuable leads. In terms of scope, we use Adobe Marketo Engage across multiple departments and teams within our organization, including marketing, sales, and customer success. It has become a central hub for all our marketing automation needs and has greatly improved the efficiency of our workflows.
  • Automation
  • Lead scoring
  • segmentation
  • Customer service
  • Templates
  • slow
I use Adobe Marketo Engage for years, but unfortunately, I have to say that my experience was not positive. The platform is very slow and unresponsive at times, which made it difficult to use effectively. Additionally, the customer service provided by the company was not up to par. I found myself having to reach out multiple times to get answers to my questions, and even then, the answers were not always helpful. Overall, I would not recommend this platform to others looking for a reliable marketing automation solution.

Marketo helps us run our background automation for our marketing program. We use it for everything from lead scoring and lead assignment to salesforce updates, enrichment, and campaign assignments. It helps us save time by automating the many processes we need for our department to function efficiently.
  • Easy navigation
  • Functionality & capabilities
  • UI/UX is outdated
  • Hard to pinpoint things that are broken
I think Marketo is best suited for almost any marketing ops scenario. Where they fall short is their design capabilities within platform. I find it a little archaic and difficult to navigate.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage to house all our campaigns, email, ads, everything. It's a key component to what we all do in the marketing department and we wouldn't be able to do anything without it.
  • The organization of the software makes sense and is easy to navigate
  • You can get really granular with the details of your campaign. If you can think it, Adobe Marketo Engage can likely do it.
  • I only work in a small corner of Adobe Marketo Engage, but I know there is so much more it can do. It's really powerful software.
  • Uploading images to use in Landing Pages is kind of a hassle. It's not very user friendly.
  • Landing Page creation takes a long time, and templates aren't very customizable once created. If there was a drag and drop style, I would be so happy. I think that Hubspot has them beat in this regard.
If you know how to use the software well, it's super powerful. If your new to it or not as proficient, it's really hard to navigate - it's not for the faint of heart. But once you get it down, you're golden. We create 100s, maybe 1000s of different campaigns, all with unique information, messages, and requirements. Adobe Marketo Engage is able to house everything we do. It is definitely geared more for large/enterprise companies and not as necessary for small companies.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage to run our newsletters, emails, landing pages, and webinar programs. We don't use Adobe Marketo Engage as a builder for our landing pages or emails, but we use a 3rd party vendor that integrates cleanly with it. We use it to host our creatives for those pages and emails. Additionally, we run reporting on the success of the previously mentioned marketing assets.
  • Integrates with to 3rd party vendors, including LinkedIn, Facebook, landing page builders, and email builders.
  • Great with being able to organize folders based on the organization's preferences, instead of having to stick to a general setup.
  • The email builder and landing page builder are very basic and not the most intuitive. We've solved that by using a 3rd party vendor that we can sync our landing pages and newsletter designs.
  • Email and email nurture reporting are hard to work with. Their default reports are pretty basic but aren't editable.
Works well for organizations with a Head of Marketing Operations. It's so customizable, that someone needs to create templates and standard procedures, lists, and segments. Only suited for Marketing, and wouldn't recommend Sales having access to it, although you can integrate it with your CRM, so they can see information in there.

We used Adobe Marketo Engage for lead generation (creating and publishing forms and landing pages),email marketing (sending adhoc and nurture emails), lead scoring (scoring based on behavioral and demographic attributes), and overall for marketing automation to assign leads to respective lead owners, to segment database, to capture attribution data and sync with Salesforce Campaigns
  • Smart Campaign is the most powerful automation tool available for Marketers today
  • The Salesforce integration is straightforward with minimum errors
  • It can handle easy lead routing automation without paying extra for 3rd party platforms
  • Email personalization needs to support more complex scenarios like Marketing Cloud
  • Email and Landing page building experience requires an external developer help

We use Marketo in our day-to-day responsibilities. Primary responsibilities include creation of emails, smart campaigns, campaign folders and managing them. Each person in the team follows 3 email structure for a specific brand. During creation of campaign we also create smart lists for each campaign. We also do track using the smart list which becomes quiet easy for us to measure the performance. Recently had a training where we can get a combined report for all the campaigns in the campaign folder. This help to measure mixed of campaigns in a single report.
  • Creation of Folders and renanming of campaigns
  • Design studio - uploads is very user friendly
  • Sending samples is quit easy in this and can be send multiple people at a time
  • Something new which is approving and disapproving. Never came across like this in any platform yet.
  • Sometimes it gets lagged
  • Loading of pages become very slow
  • Sometime email changes are not reflecting
  • Preview of emails and the samples we send to check looks totally different at times
The best part of Marketo is to have automated emails. So I'll just share one of my experience where we had a large event and we need to send clients the emails on specific date. One option is to create the emails and schedule the emails on specific dates and the second is to create a smart list. The smart list makes the life of ours pretty easy. If you know how to play with Marketo smart list you'll love to set up email campaigns. You get tons of different criteria while setting up an email campaigns. :)

We use Adobe Marketo Engage as our main database for our robust email marketing to thousands of health workers and organizations about our products. We've also synched Adobe Marketo Engage with SalesForce to give true leads to our sales organization to follow up with prospects and close deals.
  • Good Analytics on email sends.
  • Database management and segmentation.
  • WYSIWYG HTML to prepare emails.
  • Lead scoring.
  • Better Dashboard.
  • Easier setup and segmentation of lists.
  • Easier integration with Salesforce.
Adobe Marketo Engage works great in managing your database of email contacts and prospects and helps to propel them over to your sales organization for follow-up. Setting up long-tail email programs is pretty straightforward to provide good content to your audience. I've found the stats consistent and easy to use, but I mainly download them into more complete campaign dashboards.

I use Marketo for setting up and analysing email campaigns for surveys, reports, round-tables and webinars. Scope of use involves completely automating the customer journey and email scheduling process. personally there are only two points i feel that needs attention, that would be the speed of the website and programs, which is a highly problematic issue for me and less clarity on failed processes, which makes it difficult to figure out why the particular process failed. It would be helpful if every time an error occurs it is shown why.
  • Program stringing
  • Report creation and data analysis
  • completely customizable programs
  • speed
  • rigidity of pre-created programs
  • Error clarity
I would highly recommend Marketo but with the warning that it is a less simple software, one would require mandatory training to understand the userflow which in my opinion can be improved greatly and made more user friendly. i would also caution them about the speed which again, is a more important issue than it might seem

We use it as an internal CRM to manage data, subscription of users and to automate email campaigns.<br>we also use it for data processing, data cleaning using automated smart campaigns. <br>We also use it for data segmentation. I think the product helps easily segment the data based on user interactions, user profile and push automated sequences to target the audience efficiently. I as a data analyst use the tool for reporting on web, email analytics, segment the data, clean-rewrite data using Marketo.
  • It's efficient in tracking web activities (cookies)
  • It's easier to set-up automated email sequences
  • It actually processes activities in an efficient irrespective of having duplicates
  • The Smart list feature can be implemented as a flow chart pick and drop (easier to evaluate the conditions)
  • The email open tracking sometimes doesn't work, though it registers an email click activity.
  • The duplication issue that occurs between Marketo and Salesforce
Use of Campaign Programs to track chain of smart campaign email activities is quite useful. The email analytic insights when used efficiently with proper segmentation is simple and powerful for good insights.

Getting Unique Email delivered counts over a time-period would be good to have as a ready to use metric because lot of marketing strategies depends on these numbers.

What I really admire mostly with Adobe Marketo Engage is the simplicity and the user friendliness which makes the user experience wonderful. Adobe Marketo Engage gives us the complete tool kit to deliver winning lead - and account-based marketing strategies. It helps us to connect with our customers and keeps them coming back, hence saves lots of time and effort and also money.
  • Like I have said Marketo has been very helpful by helping us to connect us with our customers and keeps them coming back, hence saving time, effort and resources.
  • Let AI build predictive audience and segments easily.
  • Personalize experience with active listening and triggered content.
  • 24/7 responsive support and service team.
  • Adobe Marketo is very user-friendly and easy to use. But the UI needs some improvements.
The best thing with this tool is how they use rich behavioural data, built -in intelligence and sophisticated journey flow to identify and engage our best customers and accelerate the customer experience. The support team has been very phenomenal and outstanding for the last 1 year I have not been delayed any response to my question.

  • Easy Reporting.
  • We can easily create as appropriate as per our requirement.
  • Track customer Journey.
  • Easy to understand modules.
  • API limitations - need to increase the API call limits.
  • Find difficulty in landing page template modification.

  • Lead Management

I am an Adobe Marketo Engage consultant so I work with several companies. Their usage varies. Here are a couple: The basics - email, website integration (forms, web page hits), scoring, CRM integration (alerts to Sales, activity tracking, campaign association), revenue attribution to marketing programs. More advanced - above plus integration to the clients' web product (i.e. registration, usage) and funnel tracking.
  • Basically, you can do *anything* with Adobe Marketo Engage. Marketers should think big, build a good foundation and move up in sophistication over time.
  • Sure, with rich functionality comes complexity. But, hey, in this day and age, you need to hire someone with the necessary analytical skills. Or get some help to fill in the gaps. Adobe Marketo Engage is pre-provisioned with best practices, so it guides you toward success.
  • The Adobe Marketo Engage community is super helpful. People like to show off their skills, so if you're having trouble, just post your question and stand back.
  • If you only want to send emails, don't buy Adobe Marketo Engage. It's overkill.
  • With some features, you need a developer. An example is responsive landing pages. Adobe Marketo Engage provides responsive emails, but adjusting them requires a CSS/HTML expert.
  • Want to answer the question, "how much money did I make from each marketing program?" This is hard but mostly because you need to enforce rules on the Sales side and you need to set up your Adobe Marketo Engage just so.
Email only - no.
CRM integration, high volume B2C, sophisticated email (dynamic content, nurturing, triggers), revenue reporting - yes

I've had a great experience so far with Adobe Marketo Engage. It's a truly powerful tool with a significantly smoother experience than Adobe Campaign, which I had used previously. I've yet to need it to do something that we couldn't find a solution that Adobe Marketo Engage offered. No plans to consider alternatives in the near future as we're currently satisfied across the board.
  • Range of capabilities
  • Automation
  • I haven't spent a lot of time in the design/creative components, but it felt a bit clunky at times in my limited experience.
We send all leads to Adobe Marketo Engage and use automation to assign campaigns, forward them to Salesforce, and route them accordingly. It is the engine behind our entire marketing effort.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage for lead intake and routing. It handles most of the top-of-funnel tracking (activity type, lead source, device location) and hands the data off to Salesforce. We also use it for ongoing communication, including triggered and scheduled emails.
  • Rules based routing
  • De-anonymizing web traffic and activity history
  • Email blasts
  • In my opinion, the UI is terrible; their optional updated UI is worse, and it's missing features
  • In my experience, setting attribution can be very finicky — it requires building things from scratch and figuring out how to access common web data in Adobe Marketo Engage's criteria
  • Changes in relationships to Salesforce fields requires getting support involved
If you have a relatively simple setup it's adequate in keep track of and updating leads. It's useful for tying Salesforce activity together for the person (e.g., if they started as an anonymous web visitor, became a lead, then were converted to a contact). As it scales, it can be difficult to maintain: it's very easy to build out a large number of interacting processes that create conflicts. Because of how it's organized, it's easy to have a forgotten campaign running unnoticed until something goes wrong.

Adobe Marketo Engage is used within my current organization to capture and score leads before passing them through to salesforce. Although our marketing operations team is the main owner of the application, it is a lifesaver for tracking leads and their behavior and acts as a central place of truth. I highly recommend Adobe Marketo Engage to my colleagues running demand generation campaigns at other companies!
  • Great for lead scoring
  • Advanced integration with salesforce
  • Central place of truth for lead tracking
  • Not as intuitive as other competitors
  • Can be confusing if you’re not properly trained
Adobe Marketo Engage is highly recommended for marketing teams running any level of demand generation programs. It allows you to see what behaviors your leads took and how they were captured. It’s also great for running email and retargeting campaigns. The marketing operations team at my company heavily utilizes the lead scoring feature, which allows the sales team to prioritize higher qualified leads.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage for a variety of activities across our marketing department. Mainly we use it for nurture programs, ad hoc emails, Events, and webinars. Adobe Marketo Engage is our main platform to nurture leads and engage them. We have a large basis, and with Marketo, it's possible to use a large variety of segmentation and triggers and also personalize forms and LP to provide us with the data we really need and use.
  • Automate personalised cross-channel experiences.
  • Sync marketing and sales so they can act as one revenue team.
  • Build best-fit account lists in seconds using AI.
  • User experience can help with a thorough revamp. The tool literally lags after every action I perform.
  • The landing page and email builder needs to be better.

When we started using Marketo for our Marketing Automation, there was an increase in opportunities with our leads. We were able to trim down and focus on the right market and were able to convert leads to sales by 10% on the first month we used Marketo. It is easy to use, and the templates are good. We receive daily updates and marketing news on the latest trend and tools for marketing. Digital marketing is new, and Marketo is complete with the right tools and guidance on how to effectively tap your market and generate leads through social media. Everything in Marketo is amazing. They have tips and guides for their products. Though, of course the price is costly compared to other email automation or newsletter creation that can be accessed or used at no cost. The free trial would be something I should also recommend for Marketo.
