We're using HubSpot to streamline our inbound marketing efforts - social media, website, email campaigns, etc. The company's digital marketing department primarily uses the software with input from the entire company. We're addressing problems like a clunky web management system, an even clunkier email campaign management system, website responsiveness, and lack of overall contact management/lead scoring. As an update - the entire company is using the HubSpot CRM to track deals, sales activity and more.
  • HubSpot support is great. They're always available (till 8pm EST) and ready to answer the simplest to the most detailed questions.
  • The ability to craft and edit web pages using COS is time-saving. If you want to add a social following section to your site, for example, you simply click ADD MODULE and select SOCIAL FOLLOWING. Pretty cool!
  • HubSpot Academy is a great way to learn anything relevant to HubSpot and/or inbound marketing. They start with the basics and move on up!
  • The INBOUND events in Boston are amazing. Too much to learn in such a short time but love every second of it!
  • Responds to ideas and requests from us - the users. Over the years, hundreds of product enhancements have made HubSpot even better!
  • The "dashboard" is pretty busy, to say the least. Lots of menus and submenus. As a new user, I sometimes feel lost.
  • Making changes to a web page can sometimes be tricky. For example, you might think changing the wording of a menu item would be simple. However you find the wording of the menu item isn't tied to a particular page at all, but a template. You then have to search for the correct template to make edits.
  • For some reason, a lot of the emails HubSpot generates (our leads, the HubSpot blog, etc.) are marked as spam. We had to whitelist all HubSpot IP addresses within our email servers. Update - this is still a huge issue with HubSpot.
  • Sometimes HubSpot thinks bigger than they can swiftly deliver. They're giving all COS clients HTTPS capabilities but it's taking forever to roll out. But still, kudos for engineering and onboarding this!
  • Reports adds on should really be free. Our client wants these basic reports that are supposed to be free but aren't.
If your company is doing inbound marketing of any kind and seeing few conversions, HubSpot can help. If you'd like to streamline your marketing campaigns, personas, leads, website, social media, blog, etc., HubSpot can help. As a relatively new user, I can't speak to the key questions, but as long as your company needs help with inbound, HubSpot is for you. U
  • We're still new at this, but so far I've seen increased employee efficiency, particularly when using HubSpot COS as opposed to a clunky web content management system.
  • HubSpot Academy courses have given employees a greater inbound marketing knowledge base.
  • Because we're now offering HubSpot as a service (we're a partner), we've seen our sales revenue grow with new retainers.

HubSpot makes it easy to plan, design, write, execute and analyze email campaigns. Their in-the-box templates are great - all you must do as a user is customize, choose your distribution list and send. You can go back after a send (or before if you think ahead) and program workflows based on opens, clicks, etc. The analytics are comprehensive and if you get confused about a data point, a mouse over will bring you a user-friendly definition of that confusing data point.
HubSpot makes lead management easy (well, easier). You can use a wizard to walk through lead scoring set up, then set workflows to notify you when a contact hits a certain score. You can program workflows for just about any type of nurturing you want, with if/then segmentation available. As far as intelligence, HubSpot automatically pulls all of a contact's company information into the contact record. Very handy when someone calls and you need to quickly check on their company (or their social media handles, etc).
I only give a 7 because the reporting can be difficult to figure out. After all, you can only simplify things so much if you want to end up with actionable intelligence. Additionally, now there is a reporting add-on which costs money. Not sure how that will affect the current (i.e., free) reporting tools.
We're using HubSpot CRM so obviously integration is a breeze. Still though, there are some tricks. For example, you can send an email template from the "marketing side" of HubSpot but that same email template is unavailable in the CRM. They're working on a 100% seamless integration but integrating HubSpot with HubSpot CRM is still far simpler than integrating HubSpot with a different CRM.

Marketing, administrative and sales professionals in my organization use HubSpot.

Our Digital Media Specialist (me) runs HubSpot programs internally and trains co-workers as needed (or directs them to the HubSpot training sessions). I'm a writer - which is a great skill to have when creating content for HubSpot. I also have a data background so the queries, list builds, smart content and lead nurturing all make a lot of sense to me.
  • Optimizing our inbound marketing to be found more and get more business.
  • Managing other companies' inbound marketing through HubSpot.
  • Managing our deals and sales pipeline using HubSpot CRM.
  • We've been able to do some pretty complex data migrations for our clients who are moving from an old CRM to HubSpot. We've done more field manipulations, data uploads, merges, etc. than most agencies.
  • The integration with Survey Monkey has allowed us to program workflows that nurture contacts based on their survey responses.
  • We've also rewarded contacts based on survey responses using the Survey Monkey integration. For example - if someone completes a survey after an event, they're invited to download the event's presentation as a PDF.
  • Lead scoring. We've started with this but we really need to get serious about rating prospects, segmenting them and handling them accordingly.
  • We need to use smart content more - that is - if someone comes to our website a 2nd time, we want to show them a different CTA.
We've invested so much time in implementing HubSpot, we aren't giving it up anytime soon! Additionally, we're putting in place a host of solutions that will streamline our inbound efforts. We would NOT want to undo these improvements, especially as we're just beginning to measure our ROI, including conversion rate improvement. As an update - our marketing efforts are more streamlined, we are seeing real ROI and we're using HubSpot for everything we can, for everyone we can. It's such a great solution.
Yes
We'd initially tried marketing automation using a CRM system. The CRM didn't really do marketing automation - and when we got on board with HubSpot, we realized how much we were missing. Of course now HubSpot has a CRM so every aspect of our sales and marketing technology is integrated. Loving it.

  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
Product reputation was definitely what swayed me. The price was in range with other systems but we'd always heard good things about HubSpot (and read good reviews). The company's reputation as a start up that was creative and technologically sound also convinced us. Their annual event, Inbound, also enhanced their reputation in our eyes.
I would have done it sooner! We're happy with HubSpot so we don't have much to change here.
  • Implemented in-house
Yes
We broke it into phases based on what we could manage. Phase 1 was converting our website over to the HubSpot COS. Phase 2 was importing contacts which included setting up fields and lists. For phase 3, we actually started "doing" market automation.
Change management was a small part of the implementation and was well-handled
Get your entire team on board, get trained and use the support team!
  • Cut off dates - be sure to stop using one system and switch over before the cut off date.
The HubSpot team helped make it a smooth implementation.
  • Online training
  • In-person training
  • Self-taught
The in-person training was in the form of workshops attended at the annual Inbound conference. It was top-notch and there was something for everybody - whether a novice or advanced user.
I can't say enough about how great HubSpot's online academy is. They offer several certifications with live online or recorded coursework, plus practicums. They also offer non-certification courses. They're all free! Did I mention that?
HubSpot's pretty intuitive and there is some degree of self training that is acceptable. However if you try to self learn all of it, you'll end up wasting time by fiddling around in the system. Use the Academy!
No
Existing support is sufficient for our needs.
They're available on the phone, with no or very short wait times, everyday until 8pm. The phone support is amazing. The email support is also fast. Support either knows the answer right away or researches the answer right away. I've rarely encountered support this competent, anywhere, especially in the world of technology.
Yes
Yes - they also immediately add a tag on the interface so everyone else knows about the bug as well.
Yes - I wanted to create a very specific list of contacts and market to them. I was new and there was a lot of segmentation involved. I needed to create new fields and populate them as well. The support person walked me through every step. Not only did I get what I needed done, but I learned how to do it next time.
  • Social media publishing
  • Email campaign design and send
  • Contact management
  • Contact view in the crm
  • Some reporting
Yes
It works well - you can't use it for everything but it rocks for social publishing.
It's so intuitive and if you stumble there's always help.
HubSpot is addressing this more and more. Currently you can assign tasks to designated sales teams, which grow as you grow. They've added free baseline products for those just getting started. These and more contribute to the scalability of HubSpot - so I gave it an 8 and am hoping for more in the future!
I've been working with HubSpot for 4 years and rarely encounter any issue that acts as a full-scale outtage. Occasionally I'll see an error message or warning that something's not right but it's always fixed right away. Compared to other systems I've worked in, HubSpot's availability seems to be a 10.

As an inbound marketing agency, Revenue River utilizes HubSpot as our marketing automation software of choice. It allows us to implement detailed marketing campaigns for our clients in half the time it would take in other platforms (which we used to deal with before the days of HubSpot). From website creation to social media campaigns to Email marketing strategy, we run full campaigns for all of our clients in HubSpot's powerful, integrated tools. This tool allows us to create, track and easily change campaigns for all clients in a way that allows us show our worth.
  • Customer Service. I cannot praise this part of the company enough. If you ever have an issue with the product or don't know how to use a tool, they will go out of their way to help you fix it.
  • The HubSpot COS (Content Optimization System) is an incredibly powerful tool that can be used to create beautiful, dynamic website in that make it easy for non-coders to easily edit pages and content without the help of those strange coding geeks.
  • Research and Development. HubSpot is continuously finding new things to improve and integrate into their tools to help marketers better create and promote content to their potential buyers.
  • User Education. Through their blog, content offers (ebooks, webinars, etc.) and other educational elements, HubSpot is always working to better educate their users on the newest trends and best marketing practices out there.
  • Reporting. The reporting tools leave a little to be desired when you want to dive deep into different things such as devices people are using to view your website and average time on pages. Thankfully, it looks like they're starting to work on building out more serious tools so hopefully this will change soon!
  • Automated Workflows. The current layout is not as easy to set up as other marketing automation systems and doesn't provide as many options when it comes to if/then scenarios and time-sensitive options.
HubSpot is best for people who have plans for implementing a fully integrated marketing campaign versus paying for one time services for static websites. Also, retail websites probably aren't best for the full allotment of tools, at least not in my experience.

Questions to ask:
-Do you have full marketing goals or plans for this tool? (versus just wanting something to post social stuff with)
-Do you have the time to spend digging into the tool and all of the different features and benefits you can receive from it?
  • Increased and faster lead conversion. The tools have allowed us to connect the dots between our own and our clients' campaigns in a way that make it very easy to generate and nurture leads.
  • Increased marketing knowledge. HubSpot makes it their business to continually educate you as a user so that you can continue to be successful with your campaigns inside of their tools. They most certainly do not forget about you once you sign on with them.

Other things we've used in the past have been tools that only satisfy one area of an integrated digital marketing campaign (social, email, etc.). Once HubSpot came into the picture and updated some of their tools, we no longer had a use for these tools since the cost of advantages made no sense compared to what HubSpot provided us.

Overall, the email tool is very powerful and easy to use but is not always the easiest when you want to create custom designs and templates that will look great in different email boxes. While this is a small thing and the only reason I didn't give an overall score or a 9 or 10, it is something that I've heard from others when they negatively compare the platform with others like MailChimp or ConstantContact. Really though, it's not nearly as bad as people may have you believe and the new analytics and dashboard give you so much great insight into your email sends that you can easily forget about the other stuff. It also helps you very easily create strong content, customize it if you would like and then pick and choose the lists of people you would like to send it to.
HubSpot has a very powerful and built out lead management platform that leads you nurture leads through workflows, segment them through lead scoring and other methods and gives you an incredible amount of lead intelligence through some of its tools like SideKick and its free CRM. While this are all very good tools and well built, there are some things that I believe could be better, especially in the lead nurturing/workflow area where the platform is not as well laid out UX-wise as other platforms like Marketo's. It would be nice to see some improvements in the UX to be able to actually map out the workflows with a more accurate visual representation of it/then structures as well as include some newer tools in the if/then functionalities. Other than that, everything is great!
The reporting and analytics functionality of HubSpot is probably their weakest area but one that still gives a good look at the different KPI's that any digital marketer would want to see. They are currently working on additions to these tools that I've gotten a sneak peak at already and have been very happy with, so I won't go into too much detail on things that are already changing.
Seeing as our existing CRM is HubSpot's free CRM (which is very, very good- especially considering it's free), I would say it integrates very well. Contacts immediately go from the Marketing side of things into Sales and lead intelligence information is easily found and added to the profiles before deals are created and life cycle stages are automatically changed as things progress.

As a full service marketing firm, we have employees using HubSpot for content creation, campaign analysis, back-end development and front-end design.

On the marketing side of things, the product is extremely intuitive, allowing for just about anyone with a basic understanding of a SaaS portal to easily find and do what they need for digital marketing. From a back-end, development standpoint, having the knowledge and experience with coding helps you implement the necessary elements for styling and functionality on the website.
  • Social media marketing- we use the social media tool both for our own organization and our clients to ensure that we publish content on a regular basis and are able to monitor and engage with our fans within one easy to use portal.
  • Email marketing- we use the email marketing tool to continually engage with our database to drive leads and nurture those into sales ready prospects for our business development team.
  • Marketing automation- we utilize the automation tools through workflows and lead scoring to better connect with and understand out leads in order to make us more efficient and effective marketers.
  • Conference/Event integrations between HubSpot and Eventbrite have allowed us to utilize hubspot to promote and track the success of different seminars and events put together by our clients.
  • Increased use of the CRM for client management
We completely believe in what HubSpot as a company is trying to achieve within the market for digital marketing automation and because of this, we are fully integrated (website, campaigns tools, etc.). We completely "walk the walk" when it comes to practicing what we preach with both inbound marketing and the use of HubSpot and its tools.
  • Implemented in-house
No
While HubSpot does a good job of laying out what you need to do in order to set up your portal, there are a number of different tools and items to consider. Using a vendor or professional who knows the software intimately would be a good idea so that you can get the most out of the system immediately and not waste time and money finding out the hard way how to do some simple things.
No
There's no need when their support is already so good. I can get ahold of a trained, helpful and friendly support agent almost any time without having to wait longer than a minute on hold. It's incredible and one of the best parts about an already amazing company. They absolutely rock.
They are responsive, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I've come to them for help multiple times with items that other support systems may have said no to and they have always been extremely helpful in digging in to help me understand the problem before fixing it for me or setting me up to easily fix it myself.
No
At one point, our website started to render improperly. Because I am not a developer or have any experience with the back-end of our website, I ended up calling HubSpot for help. Even though this issue most likely fell completely out of the scope of what their support team normally does and was almost certainly not a HubSpot issue, their team helped me go through the code to find and fix the issues that were causing the rendering problem. They saved me a massive amount of time and headache by going above and beyond!
  • The contacts section and individual profile pages are extremely well laid out and allow you to easily find information you need for a specific person.
  • The list creation section is very easy to use when putting together specific rules and requests as well as when you want to preview them before creating the list.
  • Some of the smaller details regarding blog subscription emails are hidden deep inside the settings and can make it easy to set up a campaign in the software without ever establishing automated emails for blog subscriptions meaning that people who subscribe to your blog never get their emails.
Yes
Well enough. It doesn't let you make edits to your web pages and doesn't give you access into some of the other content areas, but it does provide you some simple and helpful pieces when you need to make edits to social posts or view reporting on a mobile device.
The interface is very intuitive, the support and hints on the pages are helpful and almost everything is easy to find.

HubSpot integrates all of the best tools for inbound process execution, by personalizing the relationship with the people and providing the answers to their needs according to the different stages of their purchasing decision-making process. In addition to sharing the knowledge of their behaviors and demographic profiles and interaction that they have online. It allows you to generate qualified leads and potential customers more quickly and with a most profitable investment. We use HubSpot ourselves across the whole organization, and for our clients.
  • It provides an extensive knowledge base and a timely and effective customer support that helps you also on coding etc. For me, that I'm on the go to learn, is of huge help to save time and stress
  • User interface clear. There are plenty of features but is always easy to navigate.
  • Analytics. Apart the "standard" reports, you can track, analyze and inspect virtually any interaction that passes between you and your prospect.
  • All the tools you need for lead nurturing are on the same platform - that is owned by your customer.
  • Despite as I said customer support is there to help and probably due to the complexity of the platform the development of a website requires advanced skills. On the other hand, they provide you Learning. Once you get an HubSpot certification, you got for sure a profession!
  • It would be useful to personalize better the Dashboard being able to highlight more specific marketing and sales reports.
  • Some webinars are funny and really easy going, but also time consuming... Taking out a bit of cheers at the beginning and byebye at the end... Maybe if they could stick more to the point?
Inbound methodology can apply to any business of any size. But if there is no attitude to develop a marketing strategy and if the company does not "convert" to the inbound approach, of course HubSpot is not useful. To decide to go for inbound marketing is more than just a problem of budget (that I understand can be a pain point), it means to redefine the marketing strategy of your business, or decide to have one. This passes also through see your own business with different eyes and with a different perspective: it takes time and efforts
  • It increased our efficiency
  • Shortened the sales cycle
  • Gave a solid support on our customer relationship

We have three users working on our HubSpot platform. All of them have permission as Account, Marketing, Sales administrators and Partner employees, that give them full access to all the functionalities and resources.
We are investing in the inbound methodology and we believe that HubSpot is still the benchmark.
  • Contacts' management is easy and intuitive. More complex is to set the properties, but once you learn the few steps to follow it goes smooth.
  • Blog post editor has an interface that helps you easily to optimize SEO
  • When it comes down to customize the design of your website, the matter shows its complexity. Sometimes you feel lost in the different and many windows you need to modify at once.
Yes
I use HubSpot app on my iPhone. It keeps me updated in real time on lead conversions, providing me all the informations I would need to see the interaction occurred and giving me the instruments (contact data and straight access to the social media tools) to be able to act timely to give the right information my lead may need. Analytics functions are reduced, but you really have what you need even if you are not in front of a pc.
It is extensive and complex, but it is anyway possible to go through it with the knowledge base support and other customers' experience through the forums. Moreover, Customer support is fast on providing an answer, often is proactive (the solve directly the problem for you) and has a professional but friendly approach. I think that it contributes a lot to the overall usability.

Being a graphic designer, part of work is to implement design into HubSpot for clients. With that being said, HubSpot is a very powerful tool for creating content within pages. It gives you the options to layout different columns and create beautiful looking content that doesn't feel just dropped in. It saves time by creating the templates yourself and not having to reach out to a team developer to implement the structure. The other side to HubSpot is the tracking system it has to offer. We have clients that are able to track information all across the board with HubSpot and gain leads from it. Anyone that shoots HubSpot down would be crazy! It's like saying you don't want success. I highly recommend HubSpot to anyone.
  • Content Tracking
  • Inbound Marketing
  • Generates Leads
  • Could give more options to developers in implement designs
I can't think of any scenarios where it is less appropriate. In overall thinking, HubSpot is doing a great job with how it is used within our company and clients. As I mentioned before I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is looking for success in their company.
  • HubSpot is a HUGE part in our business. It's what helps generate leads and keeps us afloat.
  • Clients love being able to track their content and do A/B testing
We also use Freedom as a CMS which does give developers a bit of wiggle room when implementing designs. The only issue I have is I have to go to a developer to create layout structures vs HubSpot gives me the options to do it on my own without bugging a developer.

Email Marketing is very easy to use. There are lots of options to create a great looking template for clients. I would say that overall the system is perfect for those that know very little about design and development. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to for success.
AMAZING lead generation. This one is a big part of why we use HubSpot. This is also why a lot of our client use it as well.
Best tool our there!
We don't need to integrate.

Great support, never have had any issues. Issues seem to get resolved in a timely manner.

  • I am an MBA marketing '84. Not at all technically proficient. HubSpot allows me to translate marketing into website features.
  • Education is vital. Again, I understand marketing. HubSpot education shows me how to translate concepts into internet.
  • My beloved "elves", the technical support group, are knowledgeable and gracious every time they have to pull me out of the weeds.
  • The missing functionality is that I cannot give access to just a specific page or function to another employee. I now have someone helping me with social media and I cannot give him access to posting and tweeting without giving him access to the whole website.
Take any training webinars that are applicable. Call the elves when you are in the weeds.
  • In a sales graph you can actually see when we started with HubSpot. There is a big bump up and the graph goes up and to the right from there.
HubSpot was much more broad spectrum than SalesForce. It addressed many more needs and in a totally integrated fashion.

We might add Salesforce as we grow but it will only address one area of our needs whereas HubSpot hit website development and maintenance, social media presence and other areas that Salesforce does not.
See answer to last question. It works.
Good but could be more powerful
I am waiting for the new CRM and expect my rating will go up.
More than I can digest. This is more than fine.

Sales and marketing, administration (HubSpot doesn't help with that) and HR (HubSpot doesn't help with that either)

Being a small company with one person wearing many hats, HubSpot makes my sales and marketing (which is my passion) much more effective. I guess it helps with admin and HR because I spend less time (and get more results) on S&M.

That is the beauty of HubSpot. We don't need any in-house expertise. Their technical support (aka elves) are knowledgeable, eager and easy to work with.

With HubSpot a non-technical person can accomplish jobs solo that would otherwise require an in-house team. Yay HubSpot!
  • Lead generation.
  • Lead follow up.
  • Blogging tool.
  • Social media tool.
  • Analytics.
  • Totally get away from having an outside webmaster.
  • Make social media posting more efficient.
  • I would love to have the person power to track each lead that comes in and update. If we put better information in, we'd get better analytics out.
  • When I get an opportunity I would like to see about moving from Mail Chimp to the HubSpot email tool.
Yes
It replaced our outside webmaster and his WordPress.

But, oh, it does so much more than web development and maintenance!

The promise that I could "own" all our marketing, not just the traditional side.

As an "old" MBA I know the concepts - they haven't really changed - but wouldn't have known how to apply them in the internet world. HubSpot first educated me (Inbound Marketing Certification), then sold me the product and supports me in its use, any and every question I might have.
Not at all.
  • Vendor implemented

Change management was minimal
There were no changes even asked for on our part. HubSpot molded itself to our business rather than requiring us to mold ourselves to it, which is something I find all too common in software. In order to use the software we have to change how we do things. No! With HubSpot we didn't have to change a single thing we were doing. It just helped us do everything better.
  • The template was a little bit constricting but once I figured it out and went with the flow - YAY team!
  • That I couldn't wait to get started.
Spend time with your rep to set up expectations and time line in depth. My rep, Ryan, did that and everything went smoothly and on the schedule he and I agreed on.

Within a month of implementing our sales graph took a big bump up and has grown from there ever since.
  • Online training
  • Self-taught
Comprehensible by a non-techie, comprehensive and personalized as necessary.

The webinars are enjoyable, fast moving and chock full of information. The presenters and their helpers take and respond to questions. Webinars are then available for downloading online for anyone who missed attending.

HubSpot also provides a calendar of when specific webinars will be given so you can polish up your rough spots.
The webinars are great!

I strongly recommend attending as many pertinent webinars as possible on the individual training. Also, attend "office hours" if you have questions or need a little extra help "getting it".

For me, the marketing concepts were familiar friends. I had to learn how to present them electronically, which HubSpot training certainly did.

For someone more technical, self-training might work. For me, the webinars are my oxygen to make the product work.

Truth is, any more configurable and they would lose a non-techie like me.
Let HubSpot do it for you.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
Some - we have added small pieces of custom code
We do have an HTML person available + the elves will write specific HTML for a particular need.

The elves listen, solve and cheer me on. What more can anyone want?
No
Each and every time I call technical support (my beloved elves)
  • We don't need to know HTML to upload copy onto our website.
  • I can track a lead as well as get instant analytics for all my leads - source, success.
  • I can compare my analytics to those of my competitors.
  • I can graph our progress and successes.
  • One thought goes through all our social media and it can be scheduled to repeat.
  • Anything that is difficult prompts a call to my elves who will help me. Cheerfully.
Yes
Not really HubSpot. We could hire one of their partners to create it for us.

It's on our list of things to do.
Fantastic. Fabulous. Amazing. Terrific. (enter any positive superlative you would like)
It hasn't failed us as we're growing.
Support is available on line 24/7 (I have gotten emailed responses in the wee hours)

Telephone support is available EST 8 am - 8 pm M-F.
Hasn't failed anything or anywhere.
  • We have integrated modules within HubSpot but haven't taught it to dance with any other software.
  • Salesforce.
none
I gave it this rating because they regularly offer webinars on software with which they integrate in partnership with those companies. Everything at HubSpot work and works well. Plus I imagine a partner company wouldn't stick their neck in a noose with HubSpot unless they were totally sure.
Let them help you. They will.
Amazing! Attentive, knowledgeable and ready to move at my pace.
Couldn't have asked for things to go more smoothly. They set and exceeded all their goals.
That we would pay them what they asked for. They did offer an extra month of trial but I was ready to rock and roll.
Trust them. It is rare but you really can.
Yes
They don't actually have releases. They are constantly upgrading features. If it is major there will be a webinar available. Otherwise, you'll figure it out or ask an elf for help.
  • Social media tracking.
  • Closing sales tracking.
  • Don't know. We go with the flow. The only outstanding request we have is to allow access to others on our team on a page by page basis.
