What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

We have selected it based on lead management, nurturing, integration with CRM, and basic reporting. Marketo Engage is far better than Hubspot in terms of Microservice architecture, incremental scoring, APIs, webhooks, etc. The email dynamic content module is at par as compared to other MAP and can be easily developed.

Marketo provides email marketing services but does so much more.
While Hubspot, SFMC, and ActiveCampaign have more automation, they do not come close to the customization that Marketo allows you to create.

I find HubSpot to be much better, in my opinion. It is more intuitive, user-friendly, less steps to achieve something. It did require some upfront work to integrate it how I wanted with SFDC, which Adobe Marketo Engage may handle better out of the box, but from a day-to-day execution standpoint, I prefer HubSpot.

I've used Campaign, Pardot, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud in my career along with Marketo, to me Marketo seems like a clear choice and a winner in terms of platform usability, reliability, and capability to customize items. For example, in Pardot, users aren't able to customize the scoring model to the extent that users are able to do in Marketo. Pardot offers an OOTB scoring model and users can make a limited modification to it Similar is the case more or less with other marketing automation platforms I have used in the past. I'd go with Marketo any day over the platforms I've used in the past.

I enjoyed how intuitive hubspot was, however, Marketo has the ability to do more if you're willing to invest the time into it. Marketo is by far the most customizable and feature rich in my opinion.

Before having Marketo, we used to have sendgrid and Mailchimp for sending out emails and Pardot for lead management. This setup worked for us okay, but it had a lot of moving parts and was prone to fail as we scale. Due to certain compliance and privacy requirements of our company, we weren’t allowed to send our marketing emails from the same vendor as the one we use for managing sales data (Salesforce) hence we had to use other platforms for sending out marketing emails. Pardot was not as comprehensive and customizable as Marketo for lead management and third-party integration capabilities. With Marketo, we have got everything Marketing related working and setup in one place which is great for scalability and overall operation. Additionally, from a pure email marketing perspective, we have experienced better delivery rates and Email domain reputation management with Marketo than sendgrid and Mailchimp.

With Pardot, we had issues with how the rules worked when we evaluated it. We were also concerned with platform stability. With the price point being the same across both, we chose to go with Marketo. Compared to Eloqua (now part of Oracle Marketing), Eloqua was seen as a more complex platform to implement.

Marketo is on the tier of the Salesforce marketing cloud, but SFMC allows for more data and queries to be built out. Additionally, the Personalization ability of SFMC is superior to Marketo due to the ability to create a nearly unlimited number of databases. Marketo is far easier to learn and use than SFMC and its ability to be nearly as powerful a tool that's much easier to use makes it a very strong tool. Its as simple to learn as a Mailchimp tool but nearly as powerful as a SFMC. I would say it's a superior product for most businesses.

Marketo must improve its WYSIWYG tools, email, landing page, and forms. It could also need to fix the persistent request from users that doesn't allow accounts to auto-append UTM or CID parameters to every link in the email to make tracking consistent and cleaner.

Adobe Marketo Engage has an outstanding ability to customize everything; right from setting up custom fields, custom activities, custom objects, API integrations, etc. makes Adobe Marketo Engage stand out from the crowd. Adobe Marketo Engage has a lot of add-on features like - Dynamic Chat, Web personalization, Dynamic Content, etc. some of which comes at an additional cost, but are worth it given that you have got a proper use case for them. Sunc sort of customizability and flexibility isn't always available in the other platforms that I've worked upon/considered.

Adobe Marketo is one of best marketing Automation tool i have ever worked it has almost all the features, better AI than any other tools available in the market i have also worked with HubSpot and Pardot but they two tools have some disadvantages like HubSpot lacks better automation AI, reporting, nurture programs whereas Pardot lacks easy email building, landing page forms building capabilities.

Marketo would have to be the most powerful email marketing tool that I've used before for its extensive features and capabilities. It's fairly designed for both B2B and B2C use which other ESPs are not capable of. Compared with other platforms where you can only create regular emails and flows, you can create complex programs in Marketo that includes emails, forms, landing pages, scoring, A/B testing, etc.

We did not select Marketo, it was the only option available at the time we decided we needed Marketing Automation platform.
Today we know that for most of our customers HubSpot is the better solution for many reasons.
We would only recommend Marketo to larger companies with dedicated personnel for design, web developer, and Marketo admin.

Marketo was already onboarded when I joined the company.
While migrating from a platform to another is a challenge, all enterprise marketing automation platforms offer similar functionalities. These are tools, and the team using them will define how successful these are.
Marketo is generally preferred due to it's usability, out of the box CRM integrations, API, Velocity Scripts, and workflow granularity.
